Sheriff Will Defy Governor's Orders

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 25, 2025

Sheriff Will Defy Governor’s

Orders!!

Sheriff Richard K. Jones stated today, during an interview with radio host Bill Cunningham on 700 WLW, that he is aware of those advocating for inmate Ayman Soliman and the letter they intend to deliver today to Governor Mike DeWine at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.

According to a press release, Soliman’s supporters are urging the Governor to “use his power to intervene and end this cruelty toward a beloved resident of Cincinnati,” noting their petition contains more than one thousand (1,000) signatures from faith leaders, friends, neighbors, and other community members.

In response, Sheriff Jones makes clear that he will refuse any request from Governor DeWine to release Soliman from the Butler County Jail.

Sheriff Jones stated:

“I am an elected Sheriff by the people of Butler County, chosen to serve six (6) terms. It is my sworn duty to protect this community and to uphold the law—including federal immigration law. I do not pick and choose which laws to enforce, I do not fear the Governor, I would fear compromising the safety of the citizens I serve.”
