Juvenile Hospitalized Following Accidental Shooting
Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that on October 8, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m., deputies from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 6900 block of Dutchland Parkway in Liberty Township for a report of a juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a sixteen-year-old male and two friends were walking from the Lakota Point Townhomes through a field behind Woodland Elementary School toward a nearby Kroger when the victim sustained a gunshot wound from an undetermined direction. The victim’s companions carried him to the school parking lot, where emergency personnel transported him to UC West Chester Hospital. The injury was determined to be non-life-threatening.
Detectives responded to the scene and subsequently located a firearm inside a large dumpster southwest of the school parking lot. The weapon, a black and purple 9mm handgun, had been reported stolen by the victim’s stepmother to the West Chester Police Department the previous day. For information regarding the firearm’s registered owner, please contact the West Chester Police Department.
Following a review of surveillance footage from Woodland Elementary, detectives believe the injury resulted from the accidental discharge of the firearm by one of the juveniles while behind the dumpster.
This incident remains under investigation by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
