Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports July 08, 2019 at approximately 1900hrs Hamilton Police Department put out a BOLO (Be On The Lookout) for a suspect vehicle involved in a homicide in the city. Vehicle description was given advising suspect Mathew Ferris had fled the scene prior to Hamilton P.D.’s arrival.

Deputy Mike Gibson observed the suspect vehicle matching the description given, near the Hamilton Christian Center in Hanover Twp. Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones takes extra precaution when it comes to registered sex offenders in his County. Although periodically throughout the year checks are made on registered sex offenders, annually, the Sheriff has several teams of Deputies organized to conduct address verifications on registered sex offenders in Butler County for one day.

There are 550 registered sex offenders in Butler County.  There were 5 teams of 2 person units conducting the verifications throughout the day. This operation is vital in keeping our community safe by keeping track of where these sex offenders are. Of the almost 200 verifications, 6 are being investigated by our SORN Division.  Sheriff Jones states “If registered sex offenders are not complying with court orders, they will go to jail, no questions.” 

Prior to the address verification checks, the Sheriff conducts a uniform inspection check on sworn personnel to make sure the employees maintain a professional image and equipment is up to date.  The Sheriff runs a paramilitary operation making sure uniforms are clean, shoes are shined and all the equipment on their duty belts are operational and maintained.   The patrol units were also inspected to  make sure all equipment is operational and up to date.  “We want to maintain a professional image.  If we can’t respect ourselves how can we expect others to?” Said Sheriff Jones

Victim Found In Great Miami River Identified

Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports the body of 35 year old Nathan Durbin of Fairfield was discovered in the water by a man walking to work on Black Street Bridge at 0715 this morning. Durbin’s body was located on the west side of the Great Miami River just north of the Black St. Bridge. Upon calling 911 Hamilton Fire Dept. along with the Butler County Sheriff’s office and Hamilton Police arrived on scene.  The Hamilton Fire Department attempted a rescue but Durbin was deceased upon arrival. Although nothing appears suspicious, there is an ongoing investigation by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. Cause of death is pending upon the Coroner’s report.

Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that the Butler County Sheriff (ERS) Emergency Response Services were called out to assist the St. Clair Twp. Life Squad for a complaint of a 19 year old male with a broken leg identified as Bobby Ault Jr. The subject was injured while fishing down at the bank of the Great Miami River when the St. Clair Twp. Life Squad advised they had no easy access to the patient. The Butler County Sheriff (ERS) Emergency Response Services were on duty at the time and responded immediately by boat. Mr. Ault was rescued by a UTV and transported via the St. Clair Twp. Life Squad.
