Miami University Property Recovered, 2 Charged

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that yesterday afternoon, BCSO detectives and BURN (Butler County Undercover Narcotics) task force agents executed a search warrant that resulted in the recovery of a stolen pickup truck and two leaf blowers that are the property of Miami University in Oxford. They also recovered a stolen motor bike that belongs to a separate victim.

The search warrant was executed at 4025 Darrtown Road in Milford Township.  During the execution of the search warrant, deputies discovered the remnants of a methamphetamine lab.

David M. Hoelle, 43 year old male from Darrtown Ohio, admitted to the meth lab and possession of the stolen items.  Mr. Hoelle was charged with Manufacturing Illegal Drugs, Assembly of Chemicals, and Receiving Stolen Property, all felony charges.  Christopher Lake, 45 year old male from Darrtown Ohio, was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, a felony of the 5th degree. Additional charges may be presented to the Grand Jury.

“My guys received investigative information about the stolen property and acted swiftly to recover it. The discovery of the meth lab, in this case, is just an added bonus for the good guys,” Sheriff Jones said. “I’m proud of these deputies and how fast they acted getting this property back and the drugs off the streets.”

The property will be returned to Miami University and the victim as soon as possible.

Dangerous Chemicals Located Where Children Live

Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that yesterday at approximately 4 PM, Butler County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies, Butler County Probation and B.U.R.N. (Butler County Undercover Regional Narcotics Taskforce) responded to 2840 Scott Road in Milford Township and conducted a search in which they discovered chemicals used to manufacture meth inside the residence.  “We found a lot of extremely dangerous chemicals that could have been a recipe for disaster, so it is a good thing we found it in time. We actually had Milford Township emergency crews staged near the scene for the concern that one of the tanks used to make the drugs would explode. This was a very dangerous situation for everyone,” said Sergeant Mike Hackney.  There were two children and another adult in the residence at the time of the search.

Michael Murray, 36 year old male was arrested and charged with illegal manufacturing of drugs, a felony of the 1st degree, illegal possession of chemicals for the manufacturing of drugs, a felony of the 2nd degree, and endangering children, a felony of the 3rd degree.  “I am absolutely tired of drug dealers putting children and innocent people in danger at the price of their own personal gain.  This is not acceptable nor will it ever be.  The drugs are bad enough but to not care about the innocent lives in the mix is disgusting to me. I will continue as long as I am in this position, to put these criminals behind bars,” said Sheriff Jones. “I am very proud of both B.U.R.N. and Butler County Probation for their hard work on this case.”

Butler County Children Services is involved in the case for the children.  There will be more charges to come in this case and it will remain under investigation by B.U.R.N.

Train/Vehicle Crash Early Morning on March 1 Results in Fatality

hameatonharrisButler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that deputies and emergency personnel were dispatched to the train track crossing on Hamilton-Eaton Road, near the Harris Road intersection in Milford Township, shortly after 1 am on Saturday, March 1, for a reported train/vehicle crash.

The preliminary report indicates that Johnny Robbins, age 38, of Winston Drive, Hamilton, was travelling northbound on Hamilton-Eaton Road driving a 1999 Ford Taurus. He apparently failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, crossed left of center and struck a guardrail off the left side of the roadway. After striking the guardrail, the vehicle spun completely around and came to rest across the train tracks, just as a north-bound Norfolk and Southern train was approaching.

The train struck the vehicle, and pushed it along the tracks for approximately 1,600 feet before the train could come to a complete stop. Robbins was pronounced deceased at the scene. The cause of the original crash into the guardrail that resulted in the car being struck by the train remains under investigation by the Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (S.T.A.R.T.) and the Butler County Coroner’s Office.
