Liberty Township Man Charged with Child Pornography

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that his Criminal Investigations Division received information from I.C.A.C. (Internet Crimes Against Children) Taskforce that someone had downloaded, uploaded, and viewed child pornography in the Butler County area.  Further investigation led the detectives to an address on Cody Brook Drive in Liberty Township.  The resident, Phillip Holmes, a 50 year old male, told detectives that he did have a computer and that he posted videos and did actively search for child pornography on the Internet.

Mr. Holmes is from England and is here in the United States legally; however, if he is convicted of this crime, he could be deported. “This was not a lengthy investigation, it actually happened fairly quickly.  There are investigative tools that are used to alert authorities when people try to view, download, or upload child pornography, and that is what happened in this case,” said Detective Joe Nerlinger.  “Mr. Holmes told us we would find some disturbing material, and he was right.”

The investigation will continue and more charges are possible.  “It never ceases to amaze me the kind of disturbing behavior people will engage or attempt to engage themselves in.  We were made aware of this situation, acted fast, and now he’s in my jail where he needs to be.  I will assist with every aspect of the prosecution and even the deportation if need be” said Sheriff Jones.

There is no evidence that Mr. Holmes produced any videos or images. He was charged with 2 counts of Pandering Sexually Oriented Matter, a 2nd degree felony, and placed in the Butler County Jail.

Update (10/17/2014): The suspect in this case has been arrested. Detectives were led to the subject by an anonymous crime tip received through our text-a-tip system. Jason Eicher age 27, of Cincinnati Dayton Rd. Liberty Township, was taken into custody and charged with robbery 2911.02 (Felony 3).

Armed Robbery Suspect Still At Large From Liberty Township Kroger

Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that yesterday at approximately 7:45 PM, a male subject entered the Liberty Township Kroger Market Place and robbed a subject in the store restroom.

Champak Rana, a 62 year old male of West Chester Township, went to the Liberty Township Kroger to pick up his wife.  When Mr. Rana entered the restroom, a male subject put what he believed was a gun to the back of his head and demanded money.  Mr. Rana relinquished his wallet to the suspect and the suspect ran out of the store.  Mr. Rana reported the robbery to authorities right away.  Mr. Rana stated to investigators that the subject told him he had a gun, but that he did not get to look at the subject during the robbery.  “He was afraid to face him given the shock of thinking there was a gun pointing at him.”  Captain Mike Craft said.

The unknown suspect is believed to be a white male who was wearing a brown jacket, blue jeans, white gym shoes and a ball cap.  He entered the store but walked out to the entrance a couple times, then returned.  The suspect attempted to purchase a green dot card at the self -check out but canceled the transaction.  He is then seen entering the restroom before the victim.  “He appears to be working up the nerve to commit this crime by his actions.  The investigators are making this case a priority until he is caught.” Sheriff Jones said.

Deputies Apprehend Two Subjects Breaking Into Liberty Twp. School

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that at approximately 2:25 am today, deputies received an alarm activation at the Heritage Elementary School in Liberty Township. When deputies arrived to check the premises, two subjects were observed inside the school. Both subjects fled out the rear door of the building. Due to the quick response to the location and the action of the Sheriff’s deputies, the two were apprehended a very short time later.

Sheriff Jones states “My deputies did an outstanding job catching these guys quickly. The bad guys went to jail and the good guys won.” He credits the diligent work of his road patrol and K9 unit for their efforts in stopping these two subjects in their tracks. The Investigations Unit will be following up on this case.
