Drowning victim recovered from Great Miami River
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that on August 25, 2014 at approximately 6:30pm, 13 year old Caleb Spivey and a friend were fishing at the Great Miami River in Lemon Township, City of Monroe. Caleb entered the water and was caught in the current. Caleb attempted to swim back to shore when he went under water and never resurfaced.

The Butler County Regional Water Rescue Team along with Monroe Police and Monroe Fire/EMS responded to the scene. The Water Rescue Team was able to locate the victim by using a rescue boat that is equipped with a side scan sonar system. Task Force One divers were on scene preparing to enter the water if needed.
Sheriff Jones urges everyone to avoid swift moving water. These waterways are treacherous. They have currents and undertows that cannot be seen on the surface.
