More charges against Mr. Maher are possible.  “The Butler County Sheriff’s Office is going to work closely with Homeland Security to work toward this guy receiving the maximum sentence possible.  People like Mr. Maher disgust me, and they do not belong in society.  My Detectives and Homeland Security worked quickly to take him off the street, and now he is behind bars where he belongs,” said Sheriff Jones.

Craig Maher is charged with attempting to purchase a child for sex which is a federal offense.  If convicted, the minimum sentence for this charge is 30 years.

Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that a six week long drug investigation began with a tip and ended yesterday with a search, seizure and multiple arrests.  B.U.R.N. (Butler County Undercover Narcotics) Taskforce arrested two people in the parking lot of Penn Station located at 5401 Dixie Highway in the City of Fairfield.  Luis Medero-Melendez and Kilsey Pena were charged with possession of drugs, a felony of the 2nd degree and trafficking of drugs, a felony of the 2nd degree.  The subjects were in possession of 4 ounces of heroin.   When taken into custody, Medero-Melendez had a loaded .45 caliber handgun in his waistband.

A search was executed at their residence located at 5365 Camelot Dr. #41 in the City of Fairfield where an additional 4 ounces of heroin were located. “There was a language barrier with Mr. Melendez because he did not speak English, which always makes cases like these tougher.  He had an I.D. card from the State of Ohio but told us he is from the Dominican Republic.  He then told other agents he is from Puerto Rico, so we are still attempting to verify his identity,” said Detective Jason Owens.
