Body Found in Great Miami River

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that a body was found this afternoon floating in the Great Miami River just south of the low level dam along Neilan Blvd. in Hamilton. Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that Sheriff’s Investigators and Deputies have captured a fugitive wanted for attempted murder in California. Inmate Found Deceased in Cell

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that an inmate housed at the 705 Hanover Street Correctional Complex (Main Jail) was found deceased in his cell last evening, in what appears to be a suicide. Corrections Officers discovered Jasen M. Myers, age 31, from Hamilton, lifeless, with a sheet tied around his neck, at approximately 6:00 pm. Jail medics immediately responded to the scene, but could not get any pulse or any other signs of life. The Butler County Coroner’s Office responded to the jail, and Myers was pronounced deceased. The Sheriff’s Office and the Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the incident. However, there are no indications of any foul play.

New Miami Police Officer Injured in Crash during Traffic Stop

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that a New Miami Police Officer was injured this morning while he was conducting a traffic stop. Shortly before 11:00 am today, New Miami Police Officer Pat Fackey, age 31, made a traffic stop of a gray pickup truck along southbound State Route 127 between New Miami and the Hamilton City limits for a minor traffic offense. Officer Fackey had re-entered his police cruiser to continue paperwork for the traffic offense after briefly speaking to the driver of the vehicle he had stopped. The cruiser was stopped along the right side of the four-lane roadway with its overhead emergency lights activated. A southbound 1996 white Nissan then struck the police cruiser (with Officer Fackey inside) in the driver’s side rear quarter panel. The Nissan continued traveling southbound a short distance before going off the right side of the roadway and down an embankment.

Carpenter was booked into jail on an outstanding warrant for Contempt out of Hamilton Municipal Court, but was not specifically charged in this crash incident.
