UPDATE: This individual has been identified as Larry Joe Porter. We are still looking for any leads that anyone may have.

On May 18th, 1997, an unidentified male was found floating face-down amid debris in the Great Miami River. The body surfaced in Fairfield Township (Butler County, Ohio) near Reigart Road. His identity is still unknown.

Date: 5/18/1997
Case Number: 97-02699

This subject was a white male, age 35-60, approximately 5’10” and 120 to 140 pounds. All his teeth had been surgically removed within a year before death. There was evidence of a surgical repair to the bone over his right eye, which likely would have left a scar in that area.

He may have been in the water for 9 months or more. He could have been injured on the nearby Woodsdale Bridge and might have been knocked into the river, but the body could have entered the water anywhere north.

When found, he was wearing cutoff “Structure” brand jeans, a brown leather belt, size 30-32 underwear, a beaded black and silver necklace, and a maroon watch band. He had broken ribs, broken bones in both legs, and indications of cirrhosis of the liver, so there is a probable history of drinking alcohol.

His DNA was compared against available databases and no matches were found. If a possible relative were to come forward, advances in DNA technology may allow for a comparison test.

If you have information or think you know this man’s identity, contact the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
