Father Charged After Head Butting 7 Week Old Baby

Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that around 1:00 PM yesterday, investigators responded to the Middletown Atrium Hospital for a report of abuse to an infant.  The 7 week old male had serous facial injuries.  The extent of the injuries is not known at this time but the baby is reported to be in stable condition.  Injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.  The child was transported from Middletown Atrium Hospital to Dayton Children’s Hospital for assessment and treatment.

The father, 22 year old William Bently, was arrested and charged with domestic violence a misdemeanor of the 1st degree and endangering children a felony of the 3rd degree.  He told detectives that he head butted the infant multiple times in the face because he would not stop crying.  Mr. Bently is currently in the Middletown Jail.  “It is absolutely disgusting that someone can do this to a baby.  I will be seeking full prosecution in this matter,” said the Sheriff.  He credits the diligent work of the investigators in this case.  “This could have been much worse had we not been involved as fast as we were” Captain Craft (Operations Commander) said.

The case is still under investigation by detectives in the BCSO Investigations Division.
