Sheriff’s K-9 Saves Lives In Fentanyl Seizure in Butler County, Ohio

Butler County Sheriff’s K-9 “Kaiser” aided in protecting thousands of lives over the President’s Day weekend. While Deputy Daron Rhoads and his K-9 partner Kaiser were working in an area of Route 4 in Butler County, Ohio they located a large supply of fentanyl during a traffic stop.

Deputy Rhoads noticed a vehicle make several traffic violations while travelling north on Route 4 near Lesourdsville West Chester Rd. he subsequently conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. During the traffic stop, Deputy Rhoads used Kaiser to walk around the vehicle where he alerted to the presence of narcotics.

After Kaiser’s alert to the vehicle, Deputy Rhoads searched the vehicle finding 2.2lbs of fentanyl in the back seat. The drug was concealed underneath a pile of clothes wrapped in cellophane, grease, and dryer sheets. Even with the suspects best effort to conceal the narcotic from law enforcement it did not fool Kaiser.

The vehicle was occupied by the driver and a passenger who were both arrested for Aggravated Trafficking in Drugs and Aggravated Possession of Drugs both are a Felony 1 with a major drug offender specification (MDO) attached.

Jones reports on January 07, 2020, the Butler County Undercover Regional Narcotics Taskforce (BURN UNIT) executed a search warrant at 6975 Office Park Drive Unit 121 in West Chester, Ohio. The BURN Unit recovered 3.4 ounces of Fentanyl during the search. With the combined effort from the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Louis James Cooper was apprehended on Felony 1 Aggravated Trafficking 2925.03 and Felony 1 Possession of controlled substance 2925.11.
