Citizen Tip Leads To Meth Lab In City Of Hamilton
Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that last night around 10 PM, Fairfield Township Police responded to Walmart for a suspicious subject that purchased meth making components. The B.U.R.N (Butler County Regional Narcotics) Taskforce responded to assist. Jason Hopkins, 37 year old male, told the deputies that he was purchasing items to cook meth in his home. Subsequently, a search of the residence at 646 S. McKinley in the City of Hamilton, led to a large meth lab in the basement.
“I am grateful for people calling in these tips. I hope the message is getting out there, to the dealers that people are paying attention when purchases of ingredients to make illegal drugs are made and they are calling the police,” said the Sheriff.
Jason Hopkins was charged with illegal manufacturing, felony of the 1st degree, illegal possession of chemicals, felony of the 2nd degree, and endangering children, felony of the 3rd degree. There was a pregnant 17 year old female and 15 year old boy living at the residence which prompted the Endangering charge.
“Children Services will be involved in the investigation because there is a juvenile living in the home. The City of Hamilton Fire Department was on scene to provide fire suppression and Hanover Township Fire Department was on scene with breathing apparatuses. We are thankful for their assistance and glad no one sustained injuries during the dismantling of the illegal lab,” stated Lieutenant Langmeyer.
