Traffic Stop Leads To Heroin Bust

Richard K. Jones reports that around 3:00pm yesterday, deputies conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Fair and Hancock Avenue in the City of Hamilton. The driver William D. Mills, a 43 year old male, had a hypodermic needle, 13 ½ grams of heroin prepped for sale, and $400.00 cash in his possession. The B.U.R.N. (Butler County Undercover Regional Narcotics Taskforce) responded to the scene. The course of their investigation led to a search warrant being executed at Mr. Mills residence at 109 West Fairway in the City of Hamilton. The search resulted in drug paraphernalia, digital scales, 8 grams of heroin, and a 9mm handgun.

The passenger in the vehicle, Donald Leifheit, a 44 yr. old male, was arrested on outstanding warrants and transported to the Butler County Jail. Sgt. Hackney of the B.U.R.N. Unit stated that most of their investigations are predominately heroin related more so than other narcotics of choice right now. “In most cases, when we find heroin, we find guns also, two very bad combinations.” said Sgt. Hackney.

Mr. Mills was charged with trafficking in drugs, a felony of the 2^nd degree, possession of drugs, a felony of the 2^nd degree, and possession of drug abuse instruments, a misdemeanor of the 1^st degree.

“The B.U.R.N. Unit is doing a great job at getting these individuals and their illegal business off the street, and there will be more charges coming in this case. Heroin is an epidemic and I will continue to prosecute those possessing it and trying to sell it in this county,” Sheriff Jones said.
