Minor Injury Crash Involving Sheriff’s Deputy

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that at approximately 5:40 pm on Friday August 8th, a Sheriff’s Deputy was responding to an emergency call and was travelling Westbound on S.R. 129 in Ross Township with lights and siren activated. Preliminary investigation indicates that Kathleen Heitfield, of Reily Township, was travelling Eastbound on S.R. 129 in a 2007 Honda and stopped suddenly upon seeing the cruiser. James Baumgardener, of Ross Township, was also travelling Eastbound on S.R. 129 operating a 2003 Ford and struck the Honda in the rear. It appears Mr. Baumgardner went left of center striking the Deputy’s cruiser in the drivers’ side.

Ross Township emergency crews along with the Sheriff’s S.T.A.R.T. Team (Serious Accident Reconstruction Team) responded to the scene. Mr. Baumgardner and the Sheriff’s Deputy were transported by squad to Fort Hamilton Hospital for minor injuries. Sheriff’s Office K-9, Prins, was in the vehicle at the time of the crash but was not injured.
