Fire in Wayne Township Results in Charges Against Juvenile

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that deputies and Wayne Township Fire Department responded to the 5100 block of Waynes Trace Road shortly after 7 pm last evening on a report of a structure fire. There were six occupants (five adult and one juvenile) in the house at the time of the fire.

Upon investigation, it was learned that a 14-year-old male juvenile, a foster child placement from Franklin County, OH, had attempted to kill everyone in the house by starting the fire. He was physically pulled from his burning bed by the foster parent. That juvenile was transported to Children’s Hospital (in Liberty Township) for treatment of smoke inhalation and what appeared to be minor injuries. None of the other occupants reported being injured. The juvenile has initially been charged with Delinquency by Reason of Aggravated Arson, Domestic Violence, and five (5) counts of Attempted Murder.

Sheriff Jones is quite concerned with recent violent acts being committed by juveniles (referencing the recent attempted murder by arson committed by a 16-year-old Liberty Township juvenile). “It’s sad that again we are dealing with the youth of our community not placing any value on life and attempting to commit murder,” said the Sheriff. “It seems every time I think I’ve seen or heard it all, something else comes up that proves me wrong.”
