More Details Released on Fatal September Crash

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that traffic investigators are now releasing more details about the fatal September 21 crash in Hanover Township that claimed the lives of Hamilton teens Benjamin Flick and Sean Van Dyne, and injured two others. Although the final toxicology tests are still pending, investigators have stated the initial blood tests recorded a blood alcohol level for driver Van Dyne at .056. (Ohio’s limit is .02 for any person under the age of 21.) The Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (START) are confident the final test results will substantiate that number.

Additionally, START investigators calculated the speed of the vehicle at approximately 85 mile-per-hour within 5 seconds of the crash. Both the driver Van Dyne and front-seat passenger Flick were not wearing seat belts. Rear-seat passengers Mark Barr and Javon Harrison were wearing seatbelts.
