Local Sheriffs Support of “The Safe Act” HR2278
Sheriff Jones attended the National Sheriff’s Association Annual Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina last month. Sheriff Jones is a member of the NSA’s Immigration and Border Security Committee. At that committee meeting in Charlotte, the members were presented with the National Sheriff’s Association Position Paper on Comprehensive Immigration Reform which was approved by the NSA Board of Directors on June 25, 2013.
The Immigration and Border Security Committee stands in opposition to the Gang of Eight’s Senate Bill 744. That bill did pass the Senate and has been sent to the House of Representatives. The US House of Representatives have drafted a bill – HR2278 – which has been dubbed “the SAFE Act” which shows tremendous promise in the realm of public safety compared to SB 744.
