Fatal Crash in Liberty Township
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that Deputies and rescue personnel from Liberty Township were dispatched to the area of State Route 747 just north of Willow Ridge Drive shortly after 6 am this morning on the report of a three-vehicle crash. Preliminary investigation indicates that Michael McAninch, age 41, of Mason, OH, was driving a 2004 Ford F-150 pickup northbound on S.R. 747. His vehicle traveled left of center causing a head-on crash with a southbound 1997 Dodge caravan, driven by Mary Schaeffer, age 56, of Middletown, OH.

Schaeffer’s vehicle then collided with a southbound 2012 Hyundai, driven by Denise Wuebben, age 59, of Hamilton, OH. Schaeffer was pronounced dead at the scene by the Butler County Coroner’s Office. Both McAninch and Wuebben were transported by Liberty Squad to the Atrium Hospital in Middletown. State Route 747 was closed for several hours for investigative and clean-up purposes, but has since re-opened. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (S.T.A.R.T.) and the Coroner’s Office.
