Six Injured in Three-Vehicle Crash in Ross Twp. Yesterday
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports several people were transported to area hospitals yesterday (September 17, 2012) after a three-vehicle crash in Ross Township. Emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of Layhigh Road and State Route 748 (Millville-Shandon Road) shortly after 4 pm. Preliminary reports indicate a 2006 Ford Focus, driven by Samantha Salyers, age 16, of the Ross area, was westbound on Layhigh and pulled into the path of a northbound 2002 Volkswagon Jetta, driven by Michael Lierer, age 29, also from the Ross area. After those vehicles collided, the Focus then collided with a stationary, southbound on S.R. 748, 2005 Dodge truck that had been stopped, waiting to turn east onto Layhigh. The truck was being driven by Thomas McCarty, age 49, of Cincinnati.
Salyers and one of her passengers, Cole Hannon, age 15, from Ross, were both flown by Air Care to University Hospital in Cincinnati. Additional passengers Aaron Gillen, 15, from Ross, was transported by squad to Mercy Hospital, and Madison Reed, 16, from Ross, was taken by squad to Fort Hamilton Hospital. Collin Gross, age 15, Ross Township, was assessed by squad members and released to his parents at the scene.
