Butler County Dispatchers were called shortly after 1:30 this afternoon regarding an armed robbery at the Go Fish Bait and Tackle shop, 5327 Trenton-Franklin Road in Madison Twp. (just outside of Middletown). Initial information was that a black male brandished a handgun and robbed the shop. He fled the store with a white male accomplice into a wooded area near the Great Miami River. Sheriff’s Units, along with Middletown Police set up a perimeter around the area. Shortly thereafter, the Hamilton County aviation unit was called to assist (Butler County aviation was unavailable). As the police units, including a Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, closed in on the exact location of the suspects, they jumped into the river. Deputies were then able to take both into custody. No one was injured in the process. The suspects have been taken to the Middletown Police Department for questioning, and are expected to be taken to the Butler County Juvenile Detention facility after being formally charged. The incident remains under investigation.
