Update on May 3 Double Fatal Crash – Texting May Have Been Factor
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that the May 3, 2012, crash in Milford Township that resulted in the deaths of two teenagers may have been the result of driver distraction by reason of cell phone texting. The crash occurred around 4:15pm on May 3 when a Honda Civic, driven by Miranda Lane, age 17, of Colerain Township, Hamilton County, pulled from eastbound State Route 73 onto US Route 127 directly into the path of a southbound tractor trailer. Lane, and her passenger, Mathilde Jessen, also 17, a reported foreign exchange student from Denmark living with her host family in Green Township, Hamilton County, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The semi driver was uninjured in the crash. A driver of a third vehicle that became involved in the crash was transported to University Hospital for treatment of what appeared to be minor injuries.
