Local Residents May Receive Legitimate Mail Solicitation from BSSA

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that the Buckeye State Sheriffs’ Association (BSSA), a very legitimate support organization based in Columbus, has started its annual membership drive. Often the Sheriff’s Office tries to warn residents about various telephone, mail, and e-mail solicitations that claim to raise money to benefit deputies and/or law enforcement officers, but are sometimes either outright scams or maybe don’t provide any direct local benefit. But, in the case of the BSSA, Sheriff Jones openly encourages residents to show support by joining the BSSA as an Associate Member.

BSSA does not solicit memberships by telephone, but uses direct mail as its way to contact prospective members. Mailings are expected to go out to Butler County residents this week. The Associate Membership Program draws support from individuals committed to the enhancement of public safety, and who share common core values of effective law enforcement; to include: a determination to fight crime; tougher laws for criminals; fairer laws for victims; better community relations; an improved criminal justice system; adequate facilities; and support of drug awareness programs.

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports that on March 7, 2012, at approximately 1740 hours Deputies along with the Wayne Township Fire Department and Life Squad were dispatched to the 3100 block of Middletown-Eaton Road in reference to a single motorcycle injury accident.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a black Harley Davidson motorcycle, operated by an unidentified male, was proceeding northbound on Middletown-Eaton Road near 3127 Middletown-Eaton Road when his motorcycle traveled off the roadway. The driver was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by Care Flight. At approximately 2100 hours the Sheriff’s Office found that the driver had died from his injuries. The driver had no identification and an Indiana temporary tag that had no information on record.

Sheriff’s Detectives Make Arrests After Aggravated Robbery In Liberty Twp.

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones reports two arrests after a Middletown man reported being pistol whipped and robbed, at a residence in Liberty Twp.

Justin Fiora reported that he was at a friend’s residence, at 5290 Elk Green Ct., in Liberty Twp. Fiora’s friend, John Hause, had called him to come over to the residence. Once Fiora was at Hause’s residence, another individual, Michael Sims walked into the room. Sims brandished a pistol and demanded money from Fiora. When Fiora did not comply, Sims struck Fiora several times, in the head, with the pistol. Sims then took over $1600.00 from Fiora. Fiora was treated for cuts to his head, at a local hospital, and released. An eye witness to the incident was picked up and interviewed by detectives. The witness confirmed Fiora’s story.

Detectives conducted a search warrant on Sims’ residence, on Roosevelt Blvd., in Middletown. Sims was located at his residence and taken into custody.

A second search warrant was conducted at the residence where the incident occurred, on Elk Green Ct., in Liberty Twp. John Hause was also brought to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office to be interviewed. During the interview, Hause confessed to getting some of the money from the robbery and turned it over. Hause was charged with Complicity to Aggravated Robbery.
