Sheriff’s Office Investigation into Ross Township Fatal Shooting Complete
Shortly after 11:30 pm on November 22, 2011, Ross Township officers responded to an active domestic violence call at 2426 School Road in Ross Township. Officer Gary Vaughn confronted Michael Snader, Jr. who was armed with a “long gun” and Officer Vaughn subsequently fired multiple rounds killing Mr. Snader. At the request of Ross Township Police Chief Ben Kramer the Butler County Sheriff’s Office was asked to conduct a full investigation.
Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones announces today that his office has completed its investigation into events that culminated in the fatal shooting of Michael Snader, Jr. and all the facts and findings of this case will be forwarded to the Butler County Prosecutor for his consideration to be presented to the Grand Jury.

Sheriff Jones states that he believes the Ross Township Officer’s actions were appropriate under the circumstances, but the Grand Jury will make the final determination. According to Sheriff Jones, “Thirteen shots were fired, eight striking the suspect. Under those circumstances, Law Enforcement officers are trained to continue shooting until the threat is neutralized. When you point a firearm at a law enforcement officer, the outcome is almost certainly going to be tragic.”
