Change the Border Policy

Several days ago, I sent President-Elect Obama a letter asking him to give consideration when addressing the growing number of serious crimes that are occuring in America due to the weak, and in many areas, non-existant security of our countrys borders. The following is the content of the letter:

The Honorable President-Elect Obama:

Congratulations on your successful campaign for President of the United States of America.

This letter is in regard to illegal immigration, illegal drugs and violence. The past eight years have seen an increase in drugs coming from Mexico to the United States. The violence on the Mexico – United States border has increased to the point of United States citizens being kidnapped, taken into Mexico and held for ransom.

The drugs coming from Mexico to the United States is out of control and it appears we have no policy to control any of these serious problems. I believe they need to be addressed by the new President.

Sir, I realize you have a great number of issues to address as you take office. Please give consideration when addressing the issues I have mentioned. Hopefully the members of Congress, Senate and Representatives can come up with a policy that will save this country from the mire before the conditions get worse.

We all know that it will take compromises from all sides. When planning policy for these issues, please consider the needs of the front line law enforcement agencies, jails and prison systems.

Again, congratulations on your election to the Office of President of the United States of America. Thank you for your time.

Respectfully submitted,
Richard. K. Jones
Sheriff- Butler County, Ohio

    On an issue a little closer to home….

    Although a resident of a neighboring county, I frequent Butler County, including – occasionally – bars and clubs. What, if anything, is the sheriff’s office doing to curb smoking violations? It seems that many of the places I visit in your county blatantly violate the ban, including most recently (removed) in Fairfield (where I was last Friday night, attending a CD release party). Another place that regularly violated the ban was the (removed) in Hamilton, which closed recently (and, I’m told, blamed the smoking ban for its demise – hah!)

    I’ve reported this to the proper state authorities, but I’m wondering what role law enforcement has in making sure businesses comply with this new law. From my experience, violations seem to be especially flagrant in Butler County.

    Sheriff Jones- I moved back to Hamilton in 2005-it is where I grew up and my family still lives. But I had to get out and moved to NKY last year. The big joke all over Ohio is Hamilton is Hamiltucky, but I have had to correct people in saying it is now little Mexico. Not that I have a problem with other nationalities, but Hamilton just seems overrun with ILLEGAL immigrants. And it breaks my heart to see some raping children and never getting caught. An interesting conversation took place between myself and my son (who was in the Butler County jail recently-much to my shegrin) his cellmate was illiegal from Mexico. This person told my son that we keep deporting him back to Mexico and he keeps coming back. Said there are many places they can just walk across the border and pay someone to drive them to Ohio. They picked Ohio because places like Texas keep tabs on them too much. He said in Hamilton, the police catch him driving and usually let him go, supposedly so they don’t have to do the paperwork. Said he has been pulled over 4 times this year, and this was the first time he was arrested and car impounded. I think this is a very sad statement for our city police officers and the city. I believe everyone is behind you in your agressive stance with the government regarding illegal immigrants, but it needs to also start with our officials and police departments.

    It’s not so much being Mexican or any other group that come here illegally that gets me, it’s their third world way of life that they bring with them. Trash goes in trash cans not on the floor or ground, apartments (1) bedroom are for 2 adults and 1 small child not 2 families with 10 kids, parking lots are not urinals nor are they body shops for cars to be worked on. Please respect the country that you are trespassing on and abide to the laws that are already established and don’t create your own. I can’t even begin to imagine what it must feel like to wake up each day and hope that I don’t get caught, living like a fugitive on the run and my children will suffer for it only because I wasn’t man enough to do things legally.

    the problem with butler county is that they focus on deporting people to much and not on the hookers that walk the street every night. The so called ilegal alians arent hurting anybody they just want a chance at what we were born into, the american dream. This country was founded by imigrants remember world history.

    Dear Sherriff Jones;
    I support your efforts to arrest and deport illegal aliens. I just read about the pending lawsuit against you involving the deportation of Luis Rodriguez. I can’t imagine this case making it to court. You are in my prayers. I am a resident of Hamilton County but if I lived in Butler County you would have my support and my vote. Thank you for your service sir. You are an honorable man and a great American….EL
