My Visit to the Mexican Border
I, along with Ohio State representative Courtney Combs, and local Channel 12 news reporter Rich Jaffe, recently visited the Mexico-America border to see first hand how serious the situation really is. I wish I could have come back and reported good news, but there is no good news.
I spent two days with Cochise County Arizona Sheriff Larry Dever observing the several sections of the border. Some areas had fencing, some had barbed wire, and some areas had no fence at all! Sheriff Dever also showed us pictures of many of the creative ways in which illegal aliens and/or drugs are smuggled into the country. It was shocking to hear the about the huge amounts of drugs and the number of illegals that are caught trying to enter.
But more shocking than that was the estimated one thousand illegals in just Cochise County that make it in every day, many of which ultimately wind up here in Butler County and throughout the United States! Make no mistake, not all of these people are simply looking for jobs. Many that are caught have felony records and wish to continue their criminal ways in America. I know this because many are in my jail charged with a multitude of crimes.
Our hospitals, legal system, and educational systems cannot support this unchecked flow of people pouring into the country indefinately. After seeing it first hand, I believe more than ever that action needs to be taken NOW to stop this steady flow of people and drugs into America.
I fear that it may be a lot later than we think.

Yes. Things do indeed look muy dreadful for the moment.
And although many (including this writer) would like to see an immediate correction,
a little reflection on the positive can be very calming.
Americans are becoming aware.
Our enemies know this. Saben esto.
We’re seeing a separation of the wheat from chaff.
Our “leader’s†greasy ambiguities are becoming impossible for even the dimmest of Americans to swallow.
That’s a very positive thing.
BUT… The coming years WILL NOT BE EASY.

Scold, advise and threaten us via an ethno-centric chamber of commerce? (and I don’t care about Grandpa Joseph)
Any undeserved healing of this illegal alien condition SHOULD be difficult.
Only though those travails will my great country UNITE as the much wiser CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC it was ALWAYS meant to be.

Sheriff, I have been saying this again and again! This is a government created problem and the only way to solve it is if the citizens of the United States stand together and demand action NOW! We need a 60’s style citizens action & protest to get them to do something now. What is it going to take before they finally do what we elected them to do; a 911 style attack or worse due to the governments unwillingness to deal with this issue and truly secure our boarders. Instead we get politics as usual. I say we vote all the bums out regardless of party because they only care about their election campaign funds and covering their own a**. I am sick of having to pay my taxes on this issue. I am sick of having my property taxes go to supporting illegal immigrants. Our hospitals, schools, and government are being held hostage to this. I have absolutely no faith in the Federal Government anymore!!!!!!
Thank you Sheriff, from Illinois. I had read the recent GAO report on security or lack thereof on our borders. I was totally amazed both by the reports and by your videos of how little most of us know about the border.
Some will of course attempt to deflect your statement. There is an article in the news.enquirer.com saying your remarks are divisive, they insinuate that you are blaming the illegal immigrants unfairly. The ironic part is they accuse you and insinuate against you but not once does it say that you are not telling the truth.
Were they to tell people “illegal immigrants never carry drugs into this country”, we would laugh at them. There are plenty of cases on the record where they have been caught doing just that.
So instead they attack you, because they know your message is the truth.
Sheriff Jones. Let me just get this out of the way…
You are obviously racist. It is apparent from your blog that you hate Mexican criminals (as well as criminals of Italian, Irish, African, Australian, Chinese, German, Indian, Japanese, British and pretty much any other descent) so clearly you are racist. Also, your efforts are instilling fear in the community (of people who have broken the law).
Putting the sarcasm aside; Please don’t let the foolish who think that looking the other way, while our laws are broken, is the right thing to do. Nor should you let the imbeciles who equate brown skin with illegal or immoral activity persuade you.
As long as you continue to pursue criminals regardless of race, you’ll continue to receive my vote.

If more in law enforcement were like you perhaps we wouldn’t be faced with a total meltdown of American society.
It is my hope that more people in law enforcement start to view this situation soberly.
Unfortunately, cops are viewed as part of the problem–unwilling to take a stand against law breakers.
Keep up the fight. Most people in Ohio and around the country want our laws enforced and that includes enforcing our immigration laws.
I live in AZ. I have also lived in IL & KS, and while many of us see a few illegals here and there, and don’t understand what the hype is all about, it’s worse than you think. Every day I see news on TV or in the paper here in AZ of illegals caught for murders, thefts, drugs, etc. As you saw how the border is, you can see that the immigration is an issue, and this is why I support Sheriffs like yourself, Dever, and Arpaio, because you are taking a firm stand to keep America safe, keep the illegals off the streets, and show America you are determined to maintain our set of values! Sheriff Jones, again, I commend you for being outspoken on behalf of those in your community and your fellow citizens of the United States. There will come a time when we must all stand together and make this stop and I hope that the folks who are like minded will have the courage to do what it takes to make that stand.
I find it bad that I moved into a “safe neighborhood” and now it’s becoming just like the rest of the city, you can’t even walk down the street and feel safe. My husband and I attended a Conceal and Carry class and have applied for our permits. It’s a sad state of affairs that we feel like we should have to do this in order to protect ourselves and our property, but that’s how it is.
I agree with you. It’s getting worse. It’s nice to know that at least SOME of our public figures in Ohio will stand up and declare in a rational voice that what is happening can’t continue. Thank you, again.

Defend the Spanish, you are a classic case of an uneducated moron as it clearly shows from your use of grammer and your grasp and knowledge of this issue. Yes, those people do have it hard in their respective countries, but they cannot violate our laws in an effort to better themselves. We have our own issues with our own citizens. The illegals need to take action against their own corrupt government and demand better conditions from their own government. We have enough people and problems with our own citizens let alone taking more burden from people who have no business being here in the first place. I wholeheartedly support Sheriff Jones and all his efforts to stop the influx of illegal aliens. I happen to work at one the hospitals in the area that has been largely abused by these illegals. I’m sick and tired of rendering FREE care to these non-taxpaying criminals (they came here illegally!). They brazenly show up at our area hospitals, using whatever name they feel like using that day, providing no traceable addresses or phone numbers and are ultimately receiving absolutely FREE medical care at the taxpayers’ expense. By federal law we are not allowed to turn anyone away for inability to pay thus our hospitals are going into debt over treating people who don’t pay. I don’t know of one single person that I work with in this entire hospital who doesn’t strenuously support corrective action of this overwhelming problem.

This is in response to “defend the spanish”. You say half the spanish come here to work,you’re right,the other half come here and hook up with young girls like yourself and mooch off you and you’re apparently too naive to realize it. If they want to be here then they need to do it legally. You keep saying drugs and that’s not the main issue here at all. Want an example (or how about two)? I took my daughter to job and family services to see if she qualified for medical benefits for her daughter, know what i seen? Two very cute little spanish children with their mother wearing more gold than i could afford for myself. How about another example? I worked at Koch Foods.exactly a month after the raid there i go to work and standing next to me a spanish woman(in plain english) said,”your’re back how did you get here?” Know what he said???????? I got another ID!!! Now you tell me that is legal? Get with the program! How about the ones making the ID’s are you going to tell us thats legal too? Know what makes me mad too? You go to a temporary service to work. Know what they offer by the hour? $8.00…I’m guessing by now you”ve lost interest by i’ll tell you anyways.They offer it because if you dont take that $8.00(to support a child,house payment cause see i got laid off and unemployment ran out) your little “spanish friend” will, along with the other 3000 of them!! This whole thread cracks me up, especially both sides referring to the ‘Spanish’ people. I had no idea this country had such a big problem with ‘Spanish’ people from Spain crossing the Atlantic to live in our country illegally.

While I’m not sure what a ‘low class American’ is, I know of many educated Americans who believe the immigration system is broke. Until the Federal government decides to fix the immigration process and develop a viable work visa program, the Sheriff’s actions will have minimal impact.

The speed limit on Liberty Fairfield Rd between Princeton and Millikin is ridiculous!! It has nothing to do with public safety, rather just a way to pay for all the new police technology and generating public funds at our expense. Residents of this area are hounded and harrassed by the Butler Co. Sheriffs Dept, the West Chester Police Dept, and the Fairfield Police Dept. They sit on streets with no shoulders or extended pavement, or on private property, which is illegal without the knowledge or consent of the property owner. It is nothing more than a speed trap used to generate funds in the police or legal community, not back into our community use!! The only thing that makes this a legal “speed trap” is the 5 mph reduction of speed to 40 mph between Millikin and Rt 4. The rude, disrespectful treatment by a bunch of pissed off, fat, out of shape,and personally unhappy ******** is out of hand! They care not for the personal lives or agendas of the residents and home owners in this area but simply writing tickets and causing personal stress in our already stress filled days. I am educated in criminal law, though not an attorney. If the motive was “public safety” law enforement would sit and monitor traffic not sit and pull over the first “speeder” that goes by. They write their ticket, then go somewhere else. Their average time at a “timing” location is less than 5 minutes, off this stretch of road which indicates nothing more than a cheap easy ticket and nothing to do with “public safety.” I do not want to hear any BS from the Sheriff or any other police official defending this practice. The speed limit should be raised back to the “fair” speed limit of 45 mph, here. The police say the speed had gotten out of hand in this area to explain the lowering of the speed limit. If the speed was out of hand, why wasn’ t it “patroled” at 45 mph, first, instead of lowering the limit, then patrolling it? I can honestly say, I never saw a patrol car once until the speed was lowered. That is a fact, not my own opinion!! If the police can patrol it at 35 mph, why can they not enforce a 45 mph limit? Simple, they cannot generate as much revenue at 45 mph as they can 35 mph!! I am just tired of being hounded and harassed in my neighborhood!
