Sheriff Jones — August 29, 2007, 12:13 pm

Shame on them!

Yesterday, my office was directly involved in a raid of Koch Foods in Fairfield, Ohio right here in Butler County. My office, along with other local agencies and hundreds of federal agents, joined forces in this latest crackdown of illegal aliens and businesses who employ them. This raid resulted in the arrest of over 160 persons from Guatemala, Mexico, and Peru on immigration violations. Twenty subjects were additionally charged with various state felony offenses including “Forgery” and “Taking the Identity of Another”.

This event demonstrates what can happen when we all work together to enforce our state and federal laws! This is how it should work! I fully expect that operations like yesterdays will continue. To those companies that employ illegal aliens, I say take heed, your business could be next!

This isn’t something that just happened overnight. I’ve been saying for some time now that we won’t tolerate the employing of illegals in Butler County. In fact, I have been very outspoken on this issue. I’ve warned the illegals and I’ve warned their employers. I’ve tried to educate employers on the hiring laws by paying for billboards and newspaper ads explaining it’s AGAINST THE LAW to hire illegal aliens. Perhaps, now they will pay attention.

Obviously, seeing the results of yesterdays raid, some people just didn’t get it, or chose to ignore it.

Shame on them.

Kudos to you and your men for a job well done! If only our politicians were so concerned with protecting our borders from the wave of illegal invaders that come here every day!

I will make sure never to croos into Butlers Town lines, i would not want to be stopped - arrested because of the skin color. This sounds like a milatary stae rules by a Sheriff that’s trying to make a name for himself. Isn’t there real crime such as rape, theft and drugs that should be more of prioirty. But i guess you have to capture the spotlight any way you can in OHIO. I am very afarid of US citizens that will be questioned, incaracertaed just by walking in your district. I am an American who is afarid of what some gunho people and thier views of the world in control want to do. just take all our rights while you are at it.

    Yet again, I agree!!

It’s irresponsible for people to just agree to allow things to go on, here in this country of laws, that are illegal. The government should be up on charges if that gentleman (at Koch Foods) was right and he’s been trying to do things to better check backgrounds and hasn’t received help from the government agencies.

If you’re not legal, get OUT and don’t come back until American laws mean enough for you to follow them. If you’re a citizen here and feel like I’m being harsh? You’re also free to go. My family didn’t come here legally, way back when on my father’s side, and my father and his ancestors didn’t join the armed forces so that you people could come here and make a mockery of this country by coming in, taking jobs and not doing what’s right.

Identity theft should be punishable by much more than two years, considering how badly it can affect someone from one end of their life to the other.

People say they’re giving back to the economy by paying taxes and purchasing goods and services and paying sales tax, eh? Shut up and get out. I don’t want your money in our economy any more than I want a drug dealer’s or child molester’s. Get out. Get out and shut up, ESPECIALLY if you have so little respect for this country that you want to live here and refuse to learn the language. I hate seeing Spanish words on products in the store, unless it’s a word like tortilla or the NAME of something. I also find it offensive that my bank deposit slips now have English and Spanish on them. LEARN THE LANGUAGE OR GET OUT.

There are pregnant women all over the US, just hoping and waiting to go into labor so they can have an American citizen baby. It is SO WRONG that it works like that. In my opinion, if you aren’t here legally, your child should not be a citizen automatically by being born here. If you’re here on a Visa or work permit or green card or whatever - you know, you played by the rules and all that? Fine, your infant gets the same status as you, not citizenship, but legal rights to stay.

This country is screwed up and needs to get it’s collective head out of it’s butt! Electric fences, gun-toting officers and an ethical set of officers patrolling - nice image!

I am not racist - and what I’m saying isn’t all about Mexicans or anything like that. I don’t care if you’re from Brazil, Indonesia, Poland, Mexico, Canada, England, or the moon. Whatever - just be a good person, come here legally, obey the laws set forth to govern this country. EXPECT people of your nationality to come here legally, as well - demand it of them, even. Why should so many people have to scrape and save and do everything by the letter of the law and you shouldn’t? It’s bull. That’s not so much to ask to come here. AMERICA IS WORTH THE SACRIFICE.

Sheriff Jones, I appreciate you speaking your peace on this site, in the media and showing the rest of us that we don’t always have to be politically correct to be “good citizens.”

Politically correct has taken free speech and made it something bad. I applaud your efforts and hope you keep doing what you’ve been doing to clean up your county and hope that others follow suit. I also hope that those counties, cities, etc, that DON’T jump in and follow suit are brought on charges by the federal government, if the federal government ever decides to start following the laws, themselves. Maybe I’m just wishfully thinking…

    Good luck!

Congratulations on the Koch Foods raid. Good work on the part of your Office. Also, I concur with your sentiments on cooperation between Feds and the states, and that employers have had more than ample notice that illegal employment practices weren’t going to be tolerated indefinitely. Thanks to you and all who are performing this important work!!

  5. Comment by Georgia @ August 29, 2007, 3:15 pm

Kudos to you and your department. I wish more law enforcement officials took your stance and took action.

As for you Mr. Lopez, illegals have NO rights. They are not citizens. They are criminals. BTW: People might take your comments more seriously if you could spell correctly (or even close) and use correct grammar.

This had nothing to do with skin color. It had to do with a company breaking the law by hiring illegal workers and illegal aliens being in Ohio. The fact that they were here made them criminals.

I suggest you all read Mexifornia. We need to get these people (illegal alien crimials) out of this country now no matter what the cost, shut down the borders until someone can get a handle on the problems, and start slapping HUGE fines on anyone that employees them, rents to them, does business with them, etc.

Again….KUDOS Sherrif. I applaud you. I hope your attitude is contagious.

  6. Comment by Chris @ August 29, 2007, 3:22 pm

After reading Richard Lopez’s comments on two separate times, I have to some conclusions. He is semi-literate. He speaks as though he has no real concept of the real problems. From his manner of speaking, he seems to lack some language skills and spelling skills. I could assume he is one of the aliens we speak off. I could use his technique and say between his name, lack of education and manners, he is an illegal. He seems to think illegals are just hard working people. It would be just like a activist for the illegals to try to sow the media’s cock-eyed crud.
Being in this country is illegal. period. It is a crime just as rape is. Ask any person whose identity has been used. Ask anyone whose car has been stolen, wrecked or ‘borrowed’ by an illegal who has no license, insurance, or any ability to pay for damages.
Ask the person who can’t get medical help from the local hospital which went out of business when the illegals stiffed the bills for medical care. Illegals are not what is said in the media. They are not all just hard working people. They are criminals for coming her outside of the proper rules and laws. It is a crime. walk a mile in the shoes of one whose has been ruined by an illegal and learn from it.

  7. Comment by Anonymous @ August 29, 2007, 4:41 pm

I have it on good authority that the illegal employ’s from the other shifts have been told they could return to work and that ICE will not return. It is this kind of blatant disregard for the law that have gotten this company in the position it is now in. Koch Foods HR spokesman Monty Lobb (father of Ken Blackwell’s Monty Lobb?) claims to have done his best to follow the law but it is not uncommon for employees at cook foods to change names and SS#’s on a regular basis.

Great work! I wish Sheriff Mark Pazin here in Merced County had the intestinal fortitude you have sir.

I understand these people are just trying to make a better life for themselves and their families such as the Irish and other Euro immigrants that have come to America but they need to do it legally. They need to wait their turn just like everyone else.

Thanks for enforcing the laws we have on the book such as every law man should and not turning a blind eye like a politician.

“Chris” (3:22pm) did a wonderful job of demonstrating one of the key reasons why legal immigrants’ (and Hispanic citizens’) fears are justified. As he or she said, referring to a person who identified himself as “Richard Lopez” (12:49pm):

“From his manner of speaking, he seems to lack some language skills and spelling skills. I could assume he is one of the aliens we speak off. I could use his technique and say between his name, lack of education and manners, he is an illegal.”

If Chris were to read Richard’s comment a third time, perhaps Chris would gather that Richard is afraid of and writing about this very type of assumption.

Also, when criticizing someone’s literary abilities, it is advisable to make sure that one’s own are sound (e.g. we’re not speaking “off” any aliens, we’re speaking “of” them; and even most semi-literates are aware that it should be “an activist,” not “a activist;” etc.). Not to mention that the person in question was not “speaking;” he was writing.

Furthermore, as far as walking in someone else’s shoes goes: the people who murdered a relative of mine and robbed me at gunpoint were legal U.S. citizens - what would walking in my shoes imply?

Oh, and by the way: it is not, as Chris wrote, illegal to be in this country.

    Sherriff,

You are the epitome of the danger of taking this nation further and further into the police state that it has already become. Your tyrannical comments to the media would be ridiculous if they weren’t so terrifying. Business owners should have every right to hire whomever they want to hire in this nation, regardless of citizenship. I would hazard the guess that you yourself have ancestry that came to this country looking for a better life and worked at wages less than those already here were willing to work. Only at that time, we didn’t have mountains of paperwork and a broken bureaucracy holding up the show. [Moderator comment: We had Ellis Island and a very strict immigration procedure.] It is called capitalism and that is what makes this country great. Governmental regulations are what forced our forefathers into the revolution. With people like you in charge, we are surely due for another.

If you really believe that because something is the law, that it is necessary for you to enforce it, I would then assume that you would have made a prime candidate for the SS squads hunting Jews during Hitler’s Germany. Surely there are more pressing issues in your county then needing to jail someone for the horrendous crime of working to support his or her family.

The law is broken, Sherriff. If you want change, you need to do what every other concerned citizen is doing and lobby your do-nothing Representatives and Senators. This is a Federal Issue, and until the chicken-“craps” in Washington finally decide on a solution, just stay the hell out of it. [Moderator Note: 20 individuals were charged with Forgery and/or "Assuming the Identity of Another" which are crimes in the State of Ohio]

And yes, I realize that the Federal Gestapo Troops (ICE) were involved in this raid, but I wonder who alerted them???

One more thing, have you seen the poem below? Every time I read this poem, I get a shiver down my spine and goosebumps on my arms. Try reading it to yourself before your next terroristic foray!

“Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
    With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name Mother of Exiles.
    From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“”Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!”” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Dear Mr. Butler [Sheriff Jones] i read your statement on yahoo news about your arrest on illegals. What i liked the most was your comment on how the jobs should go to americans. I am a american citizen and I have traveled the world exstensively. Most americans do not know how well off they are and how good their lives are. i work with mexicans, koreans, polish,
and several other nationalities, they work hard are on time and do not complain. The americans i work with are often late, complain, do not work as hard and are always asking for more money and time off.
If you say the jobs should go to amercians than please back up your words with some truths.
Also just a little tid bit, Most of the people you see begging on the streets are americans not foreigners………..

Hey Chris So you are well educated. Ever been over seas? I am educated own my own business in this country and two other countries. I do not employ crimnals or people that do not work hard.
As for your comment on having your identity stolen and being in an accident with someone without insurance,I have experienced both and on both occasions the persons I had to deal with were americans!! As for unpaid medical bills that is our countries fault. My brother has his own insurance business and has mostly americans as customers they seem to forget to pay their premiums quite often so my brother’s income suffers hense fourth so does his family. As for the identity theft where do you think illegals got the idea…….. not in their country.

  19. Comment by Ty Eriksen @ August 29, 2007, 8:29 pm

How shamed I am of this country, that now turns an eye when people use racism to counter any argument. It has become racism to arrest criminals who are not white, but yet white people are most often guilty until proven innocent (see Duke case*).

I applaud the work of your department, Sheriff Jones. Your county should be EVER SO PROUD to have a man that isn’t afraid to ENACT LAWS in his jurisdiction. I also second Chris for demonstrating how this country is HURT by illegal immigrants, and while I disagree on the idea of deportation, I am fully in favor of enacting current laws that call for illegals to be sent back to their country of origin. THEIR TRUE HOME.

I am glad that their are people like you enforcing our laws and looking out for American’s in this country. I hope you get the attention you deserve and spread the word. Outside of the war there is nothing more on my mind than illegal immigrants acting like we owe them something and everyone in the media portrays them as helpless victims. It’s pathetic and even more pathetic are employers that hire these criminals. I hope more police raids take place all across the U.S. and we will take back our country one city at a time! Great work! As for the gentleman that may or may not be an illegal alien, maybe he’s just an example of our wonderful government schools.

Congratulations Sheriff. We need more Law Enforcement Officers like yourself and your teams. To all the naysayers like Richard Lopez, if you want to fight against the enforcement of the laws of this country, then you can join your illegal brethren and cross the border back into Mexico. We have no need or desire for illegals or those who support illegal activity in this country. This is a country founded by immigrants who followed the laws of the country and assimilated to the culture, customs, and laws of America.

  28. Comment by Brooke @ August 30, 2007, 6:42 am

Lopez also seems to have glossed over some of the inconvenient facts of the case, such as many of the 160 that were arrested are being charged with criminal activities, including illegal reentry (re: they’ve come back after being caught AT LEAST once) to the United States, identity theft, document fraud, social security fraud and forgery.

Yeah. Real honest, hardworking folk, huh?

    Muchas gracias

I took the liberty of having this translated but I would very much appreciate it if everyone would post in English. We offer this blog as a place for people to voice their opinions and we don’t need it tying up our interpreter.

Looks like we’re returning to the past:
-Hitler and his comrades persecuted the Jews.
    -KKK persecuted the blacks
-In the years 40, 50, 60 the Italians were persecuted and mistreated in this country
Sirs, I’m writing in Spanish so you won’t criticize my English grammar because then you’ll think I’m uneducated or I’m illegal in this country. Some already think they have thrown out Mr. Lopez without even knowing it. Sirs, each one has their own perception of how to see the world. The world turns, some believe it’s okay what they say or do, others aren’t okay. I tell them they should reflect or look for the origin of the problem. With much respect to all who took those paragraphs as an exercise of tradition. To speak other languages is wonderful.

The Constitution is written in English (ever notice that?) and English, despite what people moving here now seem to want, is still the language of the land. The Pledge of Allegiance is ALSO in English.

It’s very unfortunate that some people think they should be able to move in and not learn the language of the country they wish to reside in. In most other countries, you would have to learn the language or take an interpreter with you - end of story.

My sister’s mother-in-law and husband are from Poland. The mother-in-law didn’t come here until about 10 years ago. She’s around 60 years old and smart enough to realize that in order to get by here well, she’d have to learn enough of the language to be able to communicate. If she and countless others have done it over the course of generations, why the hell shouldn’t EVERYONE who wishes to live here be required to do it? Why is America so bent on being nice that we can’t make basic requests and have them be honored for fear of some poor soul being offended that we would ask them to do something in return for the pleasure of living and working here in the US?

Spanish speaking doesn’t make you special. After all, if it’s so great, why don’t those who speak it stay in that great place where it’s the first language?

Making allowances and making a multi-lingual nation will do nothing more than further send this nation into the can and turn it into a 3rd world country. It’s becoming “expected” that there should be multi-lingual people available for those who are too lazy to learn the English language and yet want to reside here in the US and use it’s services.

If you call 911 and no one speaks Spanish at that facility and I bet someone will be up in arms with whatever city you reside in for not having the appropriate persons available to handle your crisis.

Who’s fault is that? Not the US’s, it’s your own. And what are you arguing with me about it for, anyway, in English, if the language is so offensive to YOU?

  32. Comment by Tammy in Dayton @ August 30, 2007, 1:08 pm

I, for one, appreciate what you are doing for Hamilton [Butler] County and I wish it was practiced across the country.

For those who believe that just because a border was crossed doesn’t make people criminals, here are a few definitions for you.:

    Illegal:
    1. forbidden by law or statute.
    2. contrary to or forbidden by official rules, regulations, etc.
    3. unlawful; illegitimate; illicit; unlicensed. Illegal, unlawful, illegitimate, illicit, criminal; can all describe actions not in accord with law

    Criminal:
    1. against the law
    2. relating to, involving, or being a crime
    3. involving or being or having the nature of a crime
    4. One that has committed or been legally convicted of a crime
    5. Of, involving, or having the nature of crime
    6. Relating to the administration of penal law

    Crime:
    1. An act committed or omitted in violation of a law forbidding or commanding it and for which punishment is imposed upon conviction.
    2. Unlawful activity

    Illegal Alien:
    1. a foreigner who has entered or resides in a country unlawfully or without the country’s authorization.
    2. a foreigner who enters the U.S. without an entry or immigrant visa, esp. a person who crosses the border by avoiding inspection or who overstays the period of time allowed as a visitor, tourist, or businessperson

    Resident Alien:
    1. A foreigner who is a permanent resident of the country he or she resides, but does not have citizenship.

I don’t care who the illegals are, where they come from, or if they feel they are not breaking the law. If someone participates in an illegal act (i.e. crossing any U.S. border without proper documention) it is a criminal act also. Illegal = Criminal… Point blank.

And I don’t want to stop at putting up a border along Mexico. Throw in Canada while you are at it. Isn’t that where the terrorists actually came from anyway?

  33. Comment by Scott Doyle @ August 30, 2007, 1:19 pm

Round them up and send them back! It is about time somebody with some authority decided to say the heck with political correctness. I saw on the news that people were upset because the people arrested weren’t allowed to take care of things with their relatives. Who cares? I don’t. Would you be given a chance to take care of your business if you were arrested for tax evasion, or money laundering? I don’t think so! Those people are here illegally!
I was just in the IRS office in Westchester and all of the posted notices are in English and Spanish. I filed an oral and written complaint. This is a federal office. Isn’t that like the government saying “we give up?”

What is the Legacy Our Children Will Have?

My wife and I were watching a Time-Life advertisement for original artists performing from the 50’s and the 60’s. This got both of us thinking about what our children may look back on in 2047 with fond memories.
I grew up in the 60’s through the 80’s and times were much different then they are now. Let’s look at the 40’s through the 80’s though. People in general seemed to care about one another. Neighbors talked and helped each other. Even strangers just passing by said hello and asked how you were doing. That was the rule rather than the exception. Neighbors had dinner together, went camping together and watched each others kids. The common sound on a Saturday summer afternoon was the neighbor’s lawnmower, or the clank of pots and pans through the screen door from the kitchen. Today it is the thump-thump-thump of some no name rap music droning from a passing Escalade.

Back in the 40’s through the 80’s there were good artists and performers. Music could not be digitally enhanced - the technology wasn’t developed yet. An example of some good entertainers are Jerry Lewis, or Dean Martin, Johnny Carson, Carroll O’Connor and maybe even Elvis. They were all world class performers and their work is still popular today. They will be remembered long into the future. The music from the 70’s and the 80’s is very popular again today, because of the lack of talent available now, and also that it was performed by artists that gave 100% and it shows.

Back maybe only 10 years ago there weren’t hordes of people everywhere and you could take a trip without worrying about 5 mile traffic jams. People were respectful of their fellow motorists, it was fun to stop at a mom and pop restaurant and get a cheeseburger and a root beer float. There wasn’t a McDonalds and a gas station next to it with a line at the pumps at every interstate exit.
We had wars and world conflict but we had presidents that seemed to be leaders, not an embarrassment around the world. The United States was a beacon for freedom and the world powerhouse for production of everything. Detroit was the auto capital of the world, not Japan. Ford was the master of mass production and fast assembly. The best and the fastest computers came from American names like IBM, or Control Data and in later years Apple. Your toaster said Toastmaster, or GE on it. Your refrigerator said General Motors or Frigidaire on it and it was made right here, not China. I remember when even radios and televisions were made right here with names on them like Philco or Admiral or Crosley. Find me one product in your home made here in the U.S. nowadays, I’ll bet you have to look pretty hard.

People wanted to come to America because it offered opportunity and they wanted to be Americans. If something needed to be done the world looked to us to get it done and done right. The automobile was still in its primitive stage, but it also represented freedom in a personal way. The American automobile wasn’t just a car it was almost a member of the family.
One of the big differences I see is the breakdown of the family unit. Back then people seemed to take their wedding vows seriously and divorce wasn’t an everyday thing. People had their priorities more in order. Family came first and then work. People worked to support their families, not their lifestyle or to outdo their neighbors like today. Both parents are working now while their kids are in daycare. The kids are then drugged when the parents get them home and told they have some disease like ADD. Parents disciplined their kids then, and actually taught them the difference between right and wrong. They taught them how to act in public and how to be respectful.

Parents stressed things like education and interpersonal skills. Kids learned how to be a man and act like a gentleman from their father. Children learned how to be nurturing and caring from their mother. Children learned relevant life skills from both parents. Now is seems like kids are an inconvenience in a family and are ignored and told to go play a video game. One or the other parent might not even be in the household anymore. One parent is trying to do the job of two and in many cases getting the job of neither one done. I personally know some families that are an exception, but there aren’t many left.
This is just my simple observation, but I think the decline in society started when the soda fountains disappeared out of the drug stores. I do believe that was about when society started to speed up and people didn’t take the time to sit sown for a few minutes next to a stranger and get to know someone they had never met before. Society in general quit caring. Many “modern” homes today are built without porches. If you look at homes built in the 20’s through the 50’s they had porches for two reasons. One was to cool off in the evenings because air conditioning either wasn’t around or too expensive and the other was to sit and relax and talk to neighbors or people passing by. Society today goes 24 hours. I remember even 10 years ago when traffic died down after six and streets were quiet, but not anymore.

So, what will the kids of today look back on fondly? Will it be the Ipod, a Toyota Scion? Will they say, “Wow what a good president we had in 2007”? Will they say what a good time I had playing video games or watching the World Poker Tour.? Will they talk about their mother’s 6 different live in boyfriends before they turned twelve? Will they look back on the warm memory of the fact they had two mothers or maybe even two fathers? Will they look back and say Britney Spears or the Spice Girls or Paris Hilton were world class performers and a great people?

I have reached a point in my life where I am seriously concerned about this. Society today is unbelievably shallow and self centered. Time your news some night and see how long it takes to get through all the murders and rapes in your city. Sometimes it is 20 minutes here. What do we do about the problem? How do we fix what has now been bred into many generations? Do we want to leave this country in the hands of people that can’t take care of themselves? What would happen if there was a war on American soil? Society would self destruct in a matter of hours. People have no idea anymore about how to be self sufficient.
One of the key questions every politician running for the office of President needs to be asked and given sufficient time to answer fully is…What legacy will our children have?

It is sad that there are too few government officials (such as you) who actually understand and work to meet the obligations they have to their citizens. Too many of them kowtow to political interest groups, line their own pockets, and/or pontificate endlessly about mindless, asinine politically correct crap.
If it wasn’t so far from family I would move to Butler County, Ohio; become a local taxpayer; and vote you a raise.

These are great strides that you are making. If the government will not do it on a large scale and limit the forays to 100 people that i do not like. I will be happy when i see traincars chug past my house filled with illegals destined for their homes.

Why can’t anybody understand that Richard Lopez is a U.S. citizen? And that he’s concerned about LEGAL U.S. citizens being profiled and/or detained?

This was the main point of his post, and everyone seems to be avoiding it.

I commend your standing on this issue, my former place of employment,********** Store, has fired people who have been there for years so he can hire illegals for cheap. One manager has already reported the owner because she knows 3 illegal employed. The owner has told the managers to hire all Mexacans. My grandparents did their time on Ellis Island when they came from Germany, got legal learned the language of the land the was no paperwork in German nor did they get much help, they learned the ways of America. It was damn hard but they did it the correct way,I’m sick of all the bleeding hearts and sniffiling cause they get deported, they knew the risk coming here illegally.I will not bend to their language, they are in America and need to speak English and learn our laws.We need to quit enableing them and hold them accountable.Do it right or get the hell out!

To the people who believe I am illegal, it just goes to say that your assumption because of my grammar and spelling in my last comment was horrible, which it was, I was tagged as illegal just proves my point about how close minded some people are. I was aggravated with what I read and responded to quickly. I still stand with what I said, everyone understood perfectly with what I said because they responded just fine. I understand your points, illegal immigrants that are criminals should be deported with out question, but you have to differentiate between those that are here contributing to their communities. Let’s be real, if some lazy people that decided to work for their livings instead of living off the government worked, illegal immigrants would not be here because there would be no jobs for them. We need them to move our economy, if we did not have them who would work their jobs. Would it be you, are you willing to flip a burger for $5 an hour or pick tomatoes per Diem? And if you did you would want $20 an hour for flipping that burger and thus the burger’s cost would go up. I know dam sure you would complain about the price going up, we are all upset with the cost of gas going up so quickly now imagine every thing else going up. It’s not simple to get rid of them, dam we can’t get our brave troops out of a war and we want to do this first. I have an opinion and you have yours, so far I hear just excuses for our own problems. Which one of you gentlemen and ladies are going to take those jobs that are so available now? Not me, I have a good job that I would not give up for plucking feathers.

  45. Comment by KS Dallas @ August 30, 2007, 9:07 pm

My brother is engaged to a woman in the Phillipines. They have been together for over a year. He travels over to see her as often as he can and they talk daily over the internet and phone. He has spent thousands of dollars working on getting her legal entry into the US. They still have another 6-12 month wait and at least several thousand more dollars in fees before she will get a visa. On top of that - she has to pass a physical and be free of disease.

Anyone who goes through this process is welcome, in my book. Everyone else needs to be deported. Period.

For those of you who think it is so wrong to deport these illegals- why don’t you spend YOUR time and money taking care of them and helping them to become legal. Why don’t you give up your job so one of them can have it. You want them here - you make the sacrifice for them!

  46. Comment by Richard Lopez @ August 30, 2007, 9:17 pm

I know people that are illegal and are desperately trying to change their status in the US. They are learning the language paying their taxes and not taking from the system, like some do. They know by entering the US they broke the law, they are not stupid like you think and they do care. Last year they made it known to the rest of us they want to be here and would do what was needed to gain legal status. Did you miss it was on every TV station in the county and world? I have to examples of what some did and wear they are now. My 2 friends came to this country 15 years ago, across the border, I was fortunate to go to High School with them, thru much hard work they gained a green card when they were allowed that privilege. One joined the US Army and served 1 tour in overseas; the other went to college, became an engineer and currently is a vice-president for G. Sachs division, what of them. Should they go back, are they criminals? They started here illegally but are they, they did not kill, steal or rape anyone their families just wanted a better life for them. So for every negative example you have there is always a positive one no one hears of. I forgot to mention they both are US citizens know.

  47. Comment by Randy Simes @ August 30, 2007, 11:36 pm

“The Constitution is written in English (ever notice that?) and English, despite what people moving here now seem to want, is still the language of the land. The Pledge of Allegiance is ALSO in English.”

Ich verspreche Untertanenpflicht zur Fahne von den Vereinigten Staaten, und zur Republik, für den es steht: eine Nation unter Gott, unzertrennlich, mit Freiheit und Gerechtigkeit für alle.

You probably can’t read that because you are so closed minded that you only care about your surroundings and what you know. But what I said was the Pledge of Allegiance in German. Our documents are written in English mainly because we were settled by England! But guess what, there were both strong French and Spanish speaking influences here as well. Wake up to the world around you…why can’t you expand your horizon a little bit and learn something new. No one is forcing you, but guess what…even though you may not believe it, Hispanic immigrants are learning English and before you know it they’ll be bilingual and you’ll still be clutching to your closed-minded opinions.

There is no official language for this country because we are a nation of immigrants. The only people in this nation that can claim otherwise are the Native Americans…and I highly doubt that too many of you are Native Americans. Open up your mind and your heart for a change, realize what is taking place in the world around you and actually learn something about it.

Kudos! Having been twice the victim of identity theft, I’m glad to see crooks like this getting their comeuppance. I hope local law enforcement in Northern Virginia, where I live, can take heart from your example and conduct similar raids here. God bless you, Sheriff Jones!

  49. Comment by Stephen White @ August 31, 2007, 11:37 am

Ich kann Deutsch, je parle français, parlo italiano, falo português, jeg snakker norsk, y hablo español. Being multilingual doesn’t make one tolerant of criminality. I speak 7 languages fluently, and I know the word “illegal” in every one of them. How closed-minded of you, Randy Simes, to assume that because someone objects to illegal immigration, he’s closed-minded.

  50. Comment by Wendy @ August 31, 2007, 12:17 pm

Half German (dad’s side), Half Blackfoot Indian (mom’s side), thank you.

I never learned German fluently, but know enough to identify it. Spare me the lessons and name calling, my point is still valid. Score one for you on the legal language of the land. If the government can’t have a spine and do the right thing to really get this country in line and moving in one direction, then it’s got to be the voice of the American citizens to find the right folks for government that will do something and stop hiding behind children.

I seriously could give a crap if you’re here legally, that’s great and I welcome you! If you are, then you’re just one more person annoying me on my way to and from places, so you’re just like everyone else. :) If it was my intention to move to another country and it wasn’t English speaking, I would learn the language. It’s pretty simple, I think. I would say that the residents of that country would deserve the respect of my being able to converse with them and most definitely that they would deserve me coming there according to the laws they have established. The US just doesn’t seem to respect itself enough to take this seriously, but hopefully that time is coming because, as you can tell, I’m not the only one with my views.

What you speak in your home is your business, but when you’re in a “predominantly” English speaking country, why not learn the language - what do people have against learning the language, anyway? While we’re at it, we might as well all learn Chinese, since that seems to be where our economy is now based. Hispanic immigrants may be learning English, just like other nationalities, but a good portion are not bothering to learn it, because we’re making it far too easy not to.

I would not consider myself closed minded, nor would 90% of the people I know. What’s right is right and the basis of the debate here is if you are here LEGALLY, great, if not, get OUT, because we have enough criminals already. The bleeding hearts that think that everyone is ok to come here regardless of whether they follow the law or not can go with them, back to where they came from.

As far as those good folks who broke the law and came here only to “make it right” later on… that’s great. What would have been so wrong with doing it the right way in the first place? If you were robbed by a person for your last $1000 who was a really great person with the best of intentions for using the money, I guess you’d think that was ok, too, because they were good citizens, except for that whole pesty law breaking thing…

THIS COMMENT IS TO ROBERT….. You said jobs should go to americans… Get your butt from in front of the computer go to koch foods and apply they have 161 job openings i’m sure they would hire you on the spot….. Ans to the rest of you who think illegals work for cheap get a grip they work for $7.00 to $8.00 an hour at them factories and pay taxes, the ones who work the hard construction jobs usually make any where from $10.00 to $20.00 an hour depending on their experience.. I hope that the ones who get deported that 500 more come over in their place…..

While we are throwing stones, lets cast a few at the attorneys that seem to protect the “rights” of people here illegally. Sheriff Jones, we need you in Hamilton County to help clean up the mess here.

  53. Comment by KS Dallas @ August 31, 2007, 4:57 pm

Wendy is right - it is not okay to break the law just because you plan on making good on it later.

She is also correct in the fact that English is the recognized language of the US. And as far as I am concerned - it is the greed of American companies that are a large part the blame of Spanish being on everything. They cater to the non-english people in order to sell their products or fill their factories.

The point of it all is that the peole that were arrested in the raid were criminals. You may feel sorry for them or even think that they shouldn’t have been arrested - but that is only your opinion. What was done was the correct thing to do according to the laws of the country.

As for those making references to Hitler and Nazi’s - you are comparing apples and oranges. Hitler killed millions of innocent people in their own land. What was done here was that 160 criminals were arrested and returned to their own land. Big difference.

Richard - you need to learn the correct usage of words and their spellings if you want anyone to have any respect for your opinion.

As for the truly legal aliens - they have nothign to fear. They have their documents proving their alien status.

If you love the USA enough that you want to leave your own country and come here - you need to respect the laws and come here legally. If you do not - you will have to pay the price for your crime.

  54. Comment by Lee Chandler @ August 31, 2007, 6:26 pm

  55. Comment by Paul W @ August 31, 2007, 7:21 pm

    Dear Sheriff,
One of a small, but growing group of real law enforcement officers who believe in actually enforcing the law. What a concept! Men like you and Joe Arpaio are leading the way back to closing this country to illegals. We unfortunately have a long list of Presidents who have been so invested in the cheap labor lobby that they are in violation of their oath of office, our Constitution and our laws. George Bush is perhaps the worst and I am sorry to say that I voted for him twice. Guys like Richard Lopez personify our problem. He is probably a product of the last amnesty program and realily should never been allowed to remain here in the first place. He and his compatriots are poisoning our country with their moronic, semi-literate exposition of their own circumstances and how it is “profiling” to take a serious look in their direction as we try to come to grips with our problem. He should be glad that he is here, and he should be thankful that all he gets is an occasional glance. If he were back in Mexico, he would be subject to real abuse.

  56. Comment by Anonymous @ September 1, 2007, 4:32 pm

What they do is bad i know they are harming you guys …but it is not a good way to insult them or anything like that… there are better ways to handle it…put yourselves in those mexicans shoes. They are looking for any way to survive or get a better life. It is true that they must return to their countries and that they need to pay for what they have done too…but do not treat them as bad people…
You can do it better…get rid of these problems using your heart…put them a huge fine…give them ways to work in their countries …by i dont know putting a koch food poultry there (haha) but dont separate them from their families…why do you have to be part of these? HATE JOIN PEOPLE…DO NOT JOIN BY HATING THEM ..join by making usa better…you all can show the world you know how to act in front of these problems without damaging people…and by making a difference…hey …i dont want my children to be witnesses of a third world war.

  57. Comment by Randy Simes @ September 1, 2007, 8:07 pm

Let me throw this out there…For the people on here who object to Hispanic immigrants using Spanish to communicate…do you also object to those Chinese, Japanese and European immigrants who use their own native languages?

If you oppose illegal immigration that’s fine. But lets define it first. Exceptions seemed to be made for more ‘desirable’ immigrants that may have more of an education, are of a white skin color or who have something else to offer. I don’t remember when it became policy for the US to start picking and choosing who can immigrate here.

If you’re not a criminal and want to move to America for more freedom and the chance at the mystical ‘American Dream’ then what’s the problem.

I just want the policies and stances to be equal across the board. If you’re going to bust the chops of Hispanic immigrants (both legal and illegal) then do the same to the European, Asian and other immigrants that come. Or just make it easier for all to come to the land of the free and home of the brave. I prefer the latter, but that is up to each individual to choose. I just don’t like to see double standards.

  58. Comment by Charles @ September 3, 2007, 1:38 am

You are doing an excellent job Sheriff Jones! Please continue to fight. I am behind you 100%. What a great job you and your men are doing!

P.S. All I ask of an illegal immigrant is that you turn the table and think of how you would feel if your own country was being robbed whether it’s through taxes, education, drugs, identity theft, gang warfare.. you people have nothing positive to bring to the U.S.
WAIT A MINUTE! You can’t turn the table…your country blows. That’s why you come to the U.S. How about building your own country instead of stealing from ours???

You just Don’t get it yet do you? I have been to the border and seen things that would make you change your mind which in my case i wish you would. I have been in the Law enforcement family since I was 3 years old so I know the way you work atleast some of you. It saddens me how that we the people in the surrounding cities are controlled by what others are telling us how to think ,we forget that we as an indivdual still have the power to change . You Mr. Jones have been portrayed as some child who just started school and you turned out to be the bully making fun of the other kids because there different, and the comment that is usually made is that bully does that because there life is empty and they have nothing better to do so they take away that persons innocense they lock them inside something similar to a jail for the rest of there life, sound familar? When you arrested those 160 people from Koch foods did you care about how the children would feel, if they were crying in the middle of the night asking were there parents were . You play this like it is some kind of game and you hate to lose. And if there was anyone at Koch foods that was arrested under false accusations. or legal but treated as if you were illegal please email me. Have you ever thought what would happen to “Butler County” if all the 8-10 hispanic ran stores or resturants closed how much everyones taxes would raise. Or if you raid an apartment complex and take away someones home please tell your city manager that YOU will be the responsible one to pay for all this when you deport those illegal people and they leave from there lease and these apartment complexes lose all that money
actually you would probably just push it on to your fellow hamilton neighbors to pick up the fallen pieces. SHAME ON YOU!

Can you envision the results if the muslim radicals begin to infiltrate such businesses? Please continue your fine job.

  62. Comment by Karen @ September 4, 2007, 2:59 pm

People seem to be confusing the topic of language with the atrocity that just happened at Koch Foods. To speak many languages does not make you especial it makes you smarter and more valuable in the business world. What happened on the 28th of this month in Fairfield show us the IGNORANCE of someone who calls himself a leader.
Mr. Jones, if I should call you Mr. because I think that title is too big for you, you should be ashamed of the actions your department took at Koch Foods. Why do you need to worry about people that the only thing they are doing is working to feed their families? Don’t you have crimes like rape, robbery, murder and racism to take care? I think these issues are further more important than illegal immigration. If these people have committed a crime – not entering in the US illegally, like DUI, rape, robbery, etc then go ahead and send them back to their countries but what about the ones who do not have any records?
You say you are obeying the law but the only thing you are doing is building hatred and racism. Why don’t you put yourself in these people’s shoes for a minute? Wouldn’t you leave your country for a better salary so you can feed your kids? Wouldn’t you? I think you are a RACIST. If you see somebody who is not white and looks Latino/Hispanic you already think they are illegal so they should be stopped.
Just for the record Hispanic/Latinos are very hard workers. We do not take jobs from anybody we do the types of jobs many Americans don’t want to do. Since many of the hard-worker employees of Koch Food are in jails at the moment due to your stupidity and ignorance, the economy is suffering. A lot of Americans applied at Koch Food after the raid. Every production line at Koch used to produce 15 palettes a day; right now they can’t even do 5 a day due to the laziness of the American workers.
I guess family is not important to you since what you are doing is dividing families and causing more pain than anything. If you would have gone to the Boone County Jail and see the pain you’re causing in these families you would be so ashamed of your actions. People only came for a better future for their families but unfortunately you are ripping apart their American dream. Unfortunately, you represent a city and a state that is closed minded, racist and ignorant. Instead of spending your time in dealing with the illegal immigrants in the area, you should pay more attention to gangs, rapes, murders that take place in your county.

    Karen

I keep seeing this argument that the Sheriff should ignore illegal immigration and worry about larger offenses. That is so ridiculous!

Should the Sheriff ignore shoplifting and traffic violations also? Are these not also minor offenses? What is being suggested is that the Sheriff decide which laws are worth enforcing and which laws should be ignored. What is being suggested would be dereliction of duty. Use some logic people!

Where are you Mr. Jones? Do you even read these inquiries? Whether its positive or negative you haven’t been responsive at all. We are all making our comments except for you. oh Charles please educate yourself on the way the economy works in mexico the majority of the companies are owned and bought by American people and why is it that they only pay the workers 2.00 an hour I was never paid 2.00 an hour not even when I was five years old selling honey to my neighbors it’s a know wander people have to leave that country to make a better life for there family. wouldn’t you? Thankyou Karen for your positive words. And for you Mr. “A Different anonymous” You ask if he should ignore traffic violations etc., apparently he already does i was in a court room watching the faces of hispanic people I glanced down at a traffic ticket a hispanic was holding and I noticed it was blank i asked him if i could look at it and his ticket violation was not written down like yours or mine would be, so I continued to collect 25 other tickets and not one of them had a reason why they were ticketed ,now you and I would have speeding or ran a red light etc., but they didn’t !And the point i’m making is they were pulling people over with out a reason why that is against the law . It sounds like racism to me.

Every morning I moderate this blog and print the comments for the Sheriff to read. He reads every single comment. The Sheriff could not possibly respond to all of these comments and he doesn’t want to pick and choose what to respond to. Besides this is a blog not a message board.

Also if you have proof of Sheriff’s Deputies handing out blank tickets please bring it to the Sheriff’s Office so that such actions can be investigated.

I had the great privilege to live in Italy for several years while growing up. And the one thing that has always stuck out in my mind was how the language barrier was dealt with. Most Italians speak some English, most speaking quite well (at least where we were stationed). But here lies the difference in our countries; they refused to speak English until you at least attempted to speak Italian. Trust me, they gave you ample time to slaughter their language first. So why should we not have the same mindset? If we are expected to learn the language of the country we are in, why can’t immigrants learn American? All immigrants not just the Hispanic immigrants.

KAREN!!! Please listen to yourself! Do you realize that the man who raped the 7 year old little girl in Hamilton was an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT? He got AWAY - do you know why? Because he wasn’t documented!!!! We have to do something with ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION so that people who commit crimes can be FOUND! He had like 20 names!!! There is no such thing as a “law abiding ILLEGAL”…what part of Illegal don’t you understand? and what about TAXES? You are paying taxes - right???? Is it FAIR that these illegal immigrants get ALL their money and do not have to pay taxes?????? All their money gets to go to their families, where as part of our earnings go to property taxes, state taxes, etc…..Aren’t you upset that these guys get away with not having to pay taxes because they are illegal and not documented in any state? Think about it…you are looking at them wanting to feed their families…what about our families and the jobs they are stealing from us because they can work for less? You really need to do some major reasearch before you go and start calling our Sheriff a Racist!

To every one who thinks sheriff Jones was the one who made the raid on Koch foods think again. From what I hear, koch foods themselves called immigration and told them they thought they had a problem with illegals. Good old grand wizard sheriff jones wants everyone to think his did it. I would like to know if he also was in Chicago when Koch foods head quarters got raided also? Did he coorniate that too? I remember reading that sheriff jones said , something to the effect of he don’t want other countries criminals here but yet he is filling his jail ( that he built and can’t afford to run) with criminals from all over ohio. So when these rapist, robbers, and who knows what else gets released they get to commit more crimes right here in Hamilton. If sheriff Jones cares about the people of Butler co. or even Hamilton maybe he should take a pay cut, or better yet STOP SPENDING MONEY TRYING TO DO THE FEDERAL GOVERMENTS JOB!!!!!!! I personally know one of the woman who was detained from Koch foods but later released because she was the sole provider of her AMERICAN CHILD. when she was there they gave her a paper so she could try to get her green card, but upon her released one of the officers in charge of releasing her took the paper and torn it up. She was trying to provide a life for her and her child nothing more. Maybe sheriff Jones should stop tearing apart families and try to put his back together…..

To all of you who have comments about language. Please go back to your language art books and read, the english language is made up of all kinds of different languages from all over the world. I find it very helpful to know more than one language. Maybe some of you should get off the computer, and find something better to do with your time like learn another language!!!!!!!!

First off, as a courtesy, both to the Sheriff and anyone else who reads this blog, please take a couple of seconds to proofread and/or spellcheck your comments. I can’t believe the number of spelling mistakes and run-on sentences I keep seeing. It makes it really hard to figure out what some people are saying. Now that that’s out of the way…I wonder how many of you who keep preaching the “love thy [illegal immigrant] neighbor” stuff would stop to consider this: the people arrested at Koch Foods were criminals. Their immigration status is subordinate to their status as criminals. While I applaud the notion of forgiveness, we have laws, and breaking them brings consequences. Sheriff Jones is not a priest hearing confessions, he’s a law enforcement officer. Let him do his job. Secondly, to people posting messages about how Latinos are unfairly targeted as being illegal, it’s a little hard not to confuse the two when prominent Latino special-interest groups like La Raza are on the forefront in the fight against enforcing immigration law. If Latinos don’t want to be lumped into the illegal category, maybe they should instruct Latino advocacy groups to modify their messages and stress that they only support legal immigration. Also, Hispanic immigrants are by far the largest in number of any class of 1st and 2nd-generation immigrants in this country. So while it’s true that there are other immigrant groups in the US (both legal and illegal), they are dwarfed in size by the Hispanic population.

To you “moderated” thankyou for your response. Actually when that happened I don’t set by and wait. Nothing ever gets done when waiting. I spoke with the comissioner “Fox ” at the time and brought to the attention to the Fairfield mayor as well. let’s just say the tickets were dropped. and then I also called The Nuestra Rincon and spoke with Sacha myself. and spoke with others as well. So yes it was being done and yes I had proof and I took care of it myself it always seems the people who should be taking care of it didn’t, “have the time ” Thanks Again.

Stephan White please get over the fact that everyone is not perfect like you if you can’t read what people are saying and expressing than you will always be that person who sweats the small stuff and loses out on the big things in life. And Shannon what about the black man who raped and killed his own flesh . What about the mother in blanchester whose daughter has been missingfor more than 10 years now. We can all go blameing everyone for every little thing. It comes down to this ,every race has your good and bad people. Every race has your rapists and murderers. The problem is when someone comes into any country undocumented something needs to be set up by the goverment, a system we all go by a system in everyday life it just needs to be put toghter. we sit and express to ourselves our feelings but we really need to be talking with our congress people.Change as we know only happens when you have the majority taking action together.

I have been away from this blog for several months, and return to find nothing has changed. The same tired old arguments against enforcing the law repeated over and over. The childish name calling and race baiting.
The central issue is still ‘illegal’ means ‘illegal’, not Hispanic, not Spanish. Just illegal.
Learning our lanugage should not be an issue. it is very common practice world wide to learn the language of your country of residence. Speak what you will at home or among friends, but the host language is what is expected at other times.
Get away from the non-issue of the families and children left when illegals are captured and deported. The adults should have certainly been aware of the illegal status and have been aware of the consequences when caught.
The issue remains, there is no enforcement of the existing laws regarding immigration, with a few welcome exceptions. If you are not in favor of the laws as they currently exist, then please work with the lawmakers to change them. Ranting against the status quo only creates discord. Work within the system to change the system.

To Anonymous… since you addressed me, I’ll answer you. We are discussing Illegal Immigration. Yes, there are people who commit crimes that go unsolved for various reasons…and tons of others that get solved because we are able to locate people. My point was an illegal alien with “20 different names”, who is undocumented is not easy to locate. My main point is I do not want illegal, undocumented people in our country. It’s scary to know that people can get into a Food Processing plant and have no documentation and no one knows who they are. What about terrorism? This is opening a door for terrorist to poison our food if we do not know who is packaging it! 20 people arrested that day at Kochs had forgery charges…fake names! That makes me a little uncomfortable, and apparently the Government isn’t doing anything about it no matter what the people say, so I’m proud to say our Sheriff is! I encourage you to watch Lou Dobbs on CNN in the evenings, he’ll explain to you the problems with our Government and Illegal Immigration. I think some people lose sight of the main subject on this blog. This isn’t a racial issue, I welcome everyone from every race in our country, that’s what makes us America…just be LEGAL if you want to live here and work for your families.

  76. Comment by Sarah @ September 7, 2007, 1:38 pm

I have a question about all the people who were arrested in this raid. So many were arrested, but it looks like only 20 are being charged with criminal charges. What are the conditions of the others? Has there been any evidence of human traffiking in this case? If so, are the ones traffiked being treated as victims, or as criminals right along with the 20 who attempted fraud? I would appreciate a response, thanks!

Anouk, I believe as a country and the high expectations that other countries have on us, it’s our duty to do what’s right and to help in anyway possible. whose to say something would happen (God forbid) to our country , our state whose going to help us? Should they help us? We have been so lucky so blessed as a state that nothing so severe has happen to us, We have to be positive, and help as many people as we can.

Wendy - you are half Blackfoot Indian? Your ancestors were lied to ans assimilated by the US government, yet your people “have been free to adapt their culture and traditions to their new circumstances, renewing their connection to their ancestral roots.” (as per Wikipedia). Yet, you plead English-only because you are “offended” by Spanish bank deposit slips? You say you know a bit of German…how much Blackfoot do you know? After all, that is the language that was spoken here BEFORE any English set foot here. In fact, the first european language spoken in North America was SPANISH - how do you think Florida, North and South “Carolina” (not Caroline) and Georgia got their names?

I do not disagree that English should be learned by anyone coming here, but please - look at all the diversity (ie-illiteracy) in the South and in the ghettos. Do you really think that they speak fluent English or slang?

Where would you be if you applied your own words - GET OUT - back in the 1850s where the whites killed almost all the buffalo your ancestors - nomads who knew no such thing as borders?

Where would any of us be if it were not for the sacrifices of our ancestors? Do you think they did everything legally to come to the Melting Pot? How long do you think it took your ancestors to learn English? A generation? Two? Three? Do you realize that children of most Spanish-speaking immigrants (legal and otherwise) do not learn Spanish, which is a part of their heritage?

Wendy - do you know the Blackfoot language?

“people arrested at Koch Foods were criminals.”

Only because we made a law that says so. Drinking beer was illegale at one time, but most people did it anyways, and many of them immigrants at the time. Should they all have been shipped back?

Maybe we need to take a look at our laws, and better evaluate who could be a productive member of our society, and make it easier for them to immigrate, just like all of our ancestors did.

Also, I am tired of hearing people whine and complain that immigrants and illegals (most of which should simply be immigrants in my opinion) are taking jobs from Americans. What do you think Italian and Irish immigrants did over a hundred years ago when they came and took low-paying factory jobs? Nobody shipped them back home then.

Thanks anonymous that’s what i was expecting to read. :) .. who cares the first european language spoken in north america was spanish? Right now the main language is English ..so learn it. Both legal and illegal inmigrants. I think this issue has begin with the companies that want to have all the people they can get to sell its products…they dont care about anything else..

Out Thy Neighbor - Butler County (Ohio) Sheriff Asks Us to Spy on Hispanics
If ever a reason was needed to support the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act of 2005 (S. 1033, H.R. 2330), that need has been fulfilled by what is happening in Butler County, Ohio.

With neither hue nor cry from the populace, three locally elected officials have instigated a campaign of fear against the county’s Hispanic community by “cracking down” on undocumented residents.

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones, along with County Commissioner Michael Fox and state Representative Courtney Combs, have taken it upon themselves to eliminate undocumented residents living in Butler County and throughout the state of Ohio - federal law and human rights be damned.

For starters, the Sheriff is requiring all inmates booked into the county jail to provide proof of citizenship; the county commissioner is mounting a campaign to discourage local businesses from hiring undocumented residents; and the state representative is drafting legislation that would make it a crime for undocumented aliens to cross over Ohio’s borders.

    Source: Butler County Sheriff website
Perhaps what is happening here in Butler County, Ohio is best illustrated by the image of Butler County Sheriff Richard K Jones standing next to this disgusting “Illegal Aliens Here” sign. The arrow points to the entrance of of the sheriff’s office. Similar signage is appearing on county jail vans. It certainly isn’t hard to relate these signs to signs that not so long ago warned blacks to get out of town before dusk.

Sheriff Jones tries to justify his actions by explaining “My job as sheriff is to enforce the law. I didn’t make the law … I’m trying to convince the feds to do their jobs. I’m doing my job.”

    And what is his job?

“We are not stopping people and asking them for their papers. We are asking the community to report people who are here illegally.”

That’s right, the Sheriff’s job is to encourage people to spy on their neighbors. Remind you of any past regimes? And here’s how, use a web form provided on the Sheriff’s official website.

Note the language of the form’s instructions:

If you know of any persons you feel are here illegally, or know of an employer who regularly hires illegal aliens, please contact the Butler County Sheriff’s Office with any information you feel will help us rid Butler County of this financial burden.

If you “feel,” not much of a standard of proof, is it? About the same as outing a “witch” a couple of hundred years ago. Making matters worse, the form does not require the accuser to identify himself.

If you go to the Sheriff office’s web form, the pull-down menu gives you the option to “comment on illegal aliens” instead of snitching on someone. I hope readers of this post will use the web form to express their opinion about what is going on in Butler County. And afterward, please consider writing members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to move forward with S. 1033, the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act of 2005, so that more counties can not follow the example of my county.

The Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act of 2005
The bill would allow undocumented immigrants who do not have a criminal record and can show they’ve worked full-time in the United States to pay a fine and become legal residents. Eventually they could apply for citizenship. The bill would also eliminate the huge backlog of immigrants waiting to bring family members into the U.S. and dramatically increase the numbers of workers who could come here legally in the future. Personally I find the fine provision distasteful but I guess that is the price that must be paid to make the legislation politically palatable.

Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Edward Kennedy (D-MA) introduced the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act (S. 1033) on May 12, 2005. There is a House companion (H.R. 2030) which was introduced by Representatives Luis Gutierrez (D-IL), Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Jim Kolbe (R-AZ.). Both bills are languishing in committee.

Sheriff Jones is a media hound and only cares about his own political future. The Koch foods raid was nothing more than a publicity stunt played by him, his department, and ICE. His county has a serious drug problem, prostitution problem, gang (american) problem, theft, and on and on, yet, his top priority is illegal immigrants and wastes countless taxpayer money on this issue when he could be investigating the crack house and prositution ring going on right outside his jail. He loves the media attention at the expense of local tax paying businesses. No wonder Hamilton and Middletown look like ghost towns as what business would want to locate to a place that displays hostile attitudes to the local business community when they try to follow the law. Sheriff Jones: Your right, SHAME ON YOU!!!!

What about the tens of millions of dollars that leaves the US economy (tax free of course!!) and goes directly to Mexico, etc? If 10,000,000 people send $2,500 a year out of the country that is $25 BILLION DOLLARS!! That has got to have some negative effects on OUR economy and perhaps even the liquidity crisis in the financial markets?

And if a NYC lawwwwyer type says it doesn’t, I say you are an idiot, a fool and probably a traitor.

To those who USE racism as their EXCUSE for being on the WRONG side of the law, let me inform you that NO ONE BUYS that propaganda you’re puking.

Not when La Raza (The Race) and their motto: “For the race EVERYTHING, outside the race NOTHING”, is leading the illegals to their doom like the Pied Piper leading rats to the river.

They have done MORE for the anti-illegal movement than any amount of grassroots involvement could do.

Keep up your protests, your unfair accusations of racism, your demands for undeserved benefits, your encouragement to pregnant illegals to burden our country with anchor babies and your pathetic whining about RIGHTS that our Constitution meant for CITIZENS of our country.

You’re bringing more and more attention to the need for Americans to stand together in protest of the illegal annexation of our soil. Gracias!

I’ll make sure I contact my representatives and condem this obnoxious bill.

“Pay a fine and become legal residents” - YOU MEAN GIVING THEM WHAT THEY CAME HERE TO GET ILLEGALLY?

That’s like allowing someone to keep the lawnmower they stole from you just because they cut your grass first.

No, there will be NO “paying fines” ($100,000 wouldn’t be ENOUGH of a fine), NO “legal residency” (overlooking their CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR) and DEFINATELY NOT a way to “apply for citizenship” (Someone who has ALREADY defied our laws is not CITIZEN “material” - EVER).

The biggest problem with illegals is that they are NEVER SATISFIED. They come here and find work (illegally), they want the BENEFITS of being a citizen without OBEYING the laws that ALL OTHERS must obey, they want their familia to follow in their criminal footsteps, then once they feel they’ve gotten away with all of that, they DEMAND to be ABSOLVED of their criminal deeds.

Many Americans leave our country to work, yet I don’t hear of them going underground and becoming illegal aliens of THOSE countries when their time there is up.

If the “need” for low wage workers is THAT great, then they must agree to accept OUR TERMS for their employment - which means GOING BACK when the work is finished.

Thinking that they can just STAY HERE because they WANT to, is not only IGNORANT, but it’s RUDE.

When your host says it’s time to go, IT’S TIME TO GO - whether you want to or not.

They have NO manners, nor do they want to LEARN them.

Sherriff, great job on the bust. You are a true patriot of the United States. You are executing your pledge to uphold the law’s of our country. As for illegal’s of all countries but especially from Mexico, you are not welcome here. You are not an immigrant, you are a law breaker and should be deported. You have a right to get in line and come here through the legal channels. I live in Texas and see first hand what illegal migration does to a community. Our city cannot keep up with the demand on its resources. I commend some of our city governments for their willingness to uphold the rule of law at the city level. If all of the illegal’s would be deported or return on their own to their native countries, much of the other issues i.e. crime, traffic, pressure on medical resources, schools , and a host of other problems would be reduced by 50% or more. Illegal migration is the number one issue today and must be stopped. This is a start!
