Sheriff Caught Speeding!
I am not above the law and I have the citation to prove it! For those that missed the story in the local newspapers, I was recently stopped for speeding by one of my own deputies while driving my personal car. Obviously, she was reluctant to issue me a citation, but I insisted that I expect her to enforce the law and write the ticket. Anyone who speeds in Butler County deserves a ticket, even if it is the Sheriff!

Thanks for blogging Sheriff Jones!

.
I just wanted to say that I think that Jones was right to have his Deputies write him a ticket. That just goes to show the character that Jones has. He doesn’t think that he is above the law that he enforces every day. I am impressed with everything that this Sheriff is doing for Butler County. I am proud to say that I voted for him and I will continue to do so. It is about time that we have someone in a political office that is not afraid to stand up for what is right and Jones is a go getter. I respect him and I thank him for all that he has done, and for what I am confident, he will do in the future.
I wouldnt have been surprised if the Hamilton Police Dept. had pulled Mr. Jones over while he was in his own police cruiser, being run by the most corrupt city council in the state, seems par for the course.
I am glad that you are so honest about that, but if we could only get hamilton police to do there jobs and slow down traffic on Cleveland ave. by lincoln school. Hamilton police needs to take pointers from your officers.
Sheriff you got character. You also have my vote……again.
If the Sheriff I worked for was more like you; I would not have left his employ.
It might be said, “honesty is a double edged sword” and cuts in both directions.
The hardest thing to do is speak the truth, knowing your rights as a human being will be tossed out the window.
We hope when the time comes, law providers and enforcement officers of Butler County rise to the occassion and do what is right in their heart.
Recently, we were parted from a considerable amount of money by a friend of over 15 years and the “documentationally challenged staffing” of his Automotive repair shop.

I think it was the right thing to get a citation. I mean no one should be above the law. My grandfather Ernest Fowler always spoke very well of you. This sounds like something you would enforce from what i have heard about you. Thank you for being a great sheriff.
Im curious to know how easy it is to get out of a ticket by an officer. If you had to insist the deputy write the ticket because she was hesitant to cite you, it implies that your deputy is permitted to pick and choose which offenders to issue a citation. Id like to know how to get on the instantly exhonerated list. We have all made the mistake of breaking the speed limit a time or two, but we all dont get the privilege of accepting the citation or rejecting it. Perhaps if I ever get pulled over again I will bat my eyelashes since i dont have the badge to flash.
To the writer who wants to be on the “exhonerated” list. Officers have discretionary power to arrest on a misdemeanor. That is the officer’s decision. Officers give many many warnings both verbal and written. Also, they are human beings and fully capable in making good decisions as to who should receive a citation. So, if you have “made a mistake” and didn’t get caught then you are ahead of the game. Quit crying about the flashing badge and understand that the sheriff is sending a message that he is the same as every other operator of a motor vehicle and subject to the same enforcement action and by the way, I’m not a sheriff’s deputy.
To the “anonymous ” writer that states ” by the way I’m not a Sherriffs Deputy”…………………Thou Protesteth too Much As a Daughter of a retired Deputy that gave many years of faithful service to this community, only to have his career cut short by a perpetrator that ran him over and destroyed his future. No one has as more respect for those that protect and serve, than I. You can call it ” discretionary power” I can call it the power to pick and choose who to punish according to their own personal agenda. I dont believe I was “crying ” as you put it, i was merely stating my opinion. We do agree on one thing though, the officers are human beings capable of making their own good decisions, but that doesnt mean they make the right decisions as proven by our former public servant Deputy Blankenship.
Way to go Sheriff, I’m glad to hear someone’s doing more than kissing up. I to support the President on his foriegn affairs, but his domestic smells. good luck.
Finally! Someone concerning this issue of illegal aliens with common sense. I commend Sheriff Jones for taking a stand to do the right thing. Again, the key word here is illegal!!
I just saw Sherriff Jones on Fox News and I fully agree with his campaign regarding the illegal immigrants. It is time that we show our President, (who I am very much in support of on most issues), and other leaders of our country the impact that this problem has on all of our communities. Thank you, Sherriff Jones for your stand and for your honesty in feeling you are not above the law either with accepting the speeding ticket.
I am a 35 year old wife and mother of 2. We can all agree that we live in a different and more unpredictable world since 9/11. I applaud your actions to lay accountability where it should lay, with the federal gov. where they make policy for you and all of us. I am also a daughter of a retired 1st leut. of the Michigan State Police and I believe that if SOMETHING is not done regarding our illegal problem, we will once again have to endure another 9/11 or worse. Plain fact: If you can not enter this country legally-STAY OUT.
Dear Sheriff Butler,
My wife and I are both retired Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff’s and I just watched you on television on Fox news. You should run for Sheriff of Los Angeles County (what the heck, the position is the highest paid in the nation, more than the president). You are a breath of fresh air in this country. Keep up the great work and keep your head down out there. P.S. please don’t banish the deputy who cited you to graveyard shift. Ha!! Ha!! God Bless
Sheriff Jones: Saw your interview today on Fox & Friends. Even though I am not a resident of your County, I applaud and support your effort to recover cost of housing illegals. May I suggest,if you get no refunds from the Feds, put a shovel in their hands to work on County public works projects thereby reducing County expendatures, or hire out their labor to commercial projects and put the fees in your housing budget. The Feds may not like that procedure but thumb your nose at them like they have done to your department. Thanks
Thank you sheriff for speaking out on the illegal immigration when so many are trying to side step the issue. Please keep up the fight for me and all americans, we need more people like you.
thank you!!!!
Sherrif,
We all need more like you in public office, keep up the good work with the hopes that your actions will catch on all around our country.
thanks
Saw you on Fox News this a.m. and with people like you and our Senator Tancredo here in Colorado, maybe, JUST maybe, this country will realize it’s that word “illegal” that we are so adamant about. Immigration IS a wonderful asset to our country, but NOT those that choose to get here ILLEGALLY!! You keep uip sending those bills to ICE and hopefully the rest of the country will catch up with you and we can bring this outrage of illegal immigration to a halt!!!
I wish there was a sheriff like you sir in my part of the country. I live in Decatur, Illinois, and we are just overwhelmed with the number of illegal aliens in this town. It’s gotten to the point that people don’t care anymore. The patrolmen who pull these people over have to give them breaks because they cannot communicate. The courts have to hire interpreters. All of the Mexican restaurants hire illegal immigrants and pay them in cash to stay under the radar. Sir, you should run for President or at the very least apply to the position of homeland security director.
Good for you, Sheriff Jones! Illegals are a huge drain on our country and they need to be stopped at the border. Keep up your good work!!
I live in Gladstone Oregon, I see our system overworked by people that have entered the US without proper papers. I commend you for taking a firm stand against this problem that affects everyone. We all pay for the finacial burden through our taxes and inability to use our own resources. Chris
Kudo’s to you Sherriff Butler. Not only are the illegal aliens a fincial burden on your county, they significantly conrtibute to the enormous cost of health care in this country, to say nothing of the tax dollar loss. Illegal aliens, as you know do not pay taxes. Americans holding down these jobs do! I commend you on your brave aggresive position on these matters. The ACLU sucks! I am a moderate Democrate. God Bless!
As a retired law enforcement officer I say “three cheers’ for someone who is finally taking a stand against illegal immigration. I am outraged by the lack of action against the border incursions. When will more public servants and citizens alike step foreward and become vocal and active in support of our country and laws?? If present trends continue on the borders we may have to contemplate a more aggressive agenda to convey our intent to stop the invasion. Pray for a peaceful resolution but don’t underestimate the resolve of those of us who are growing increasingly agitated with the lack of attention to this problem. We the people are still in charge and demand action before it becomes necessary to elevate our own level of action/resistance relating to this matter. Prepare,,,,be vigilant.
Sheriff Richard Jones,
Thanks for making a stand on illegal immigration. I wish President Bush would follow the same path. I am a conservative, live in Texas and voted for Bush. However, I am disappointed in the Presidents’ position on illegal immigration. During his State of the Union speech Tuesday night, Bush briefly mentioned the problem with our borders, but didn’t sound aggressive and offer a permenant solution. Mr Jones I think you are on the right path getting national attention to this serious problem and hopefully President Bush will notice your efforts and become more aggressive with his policies toward illegal immigration. Keep up the good work! We need more sheriffs like you in every county.
Larry Branton
I know these people are just tyring to escape a bag life in Mexico but I certainly think that they should not be able to deliver a baby here in the USA and that baby be an American when they are both illegal, then the baby gets medicais benefits that they parents have never paid into…that is just wrong!!! So these illegals are costing more than just jail costs.
sheriff.
you have my support on the immigration/illegal issue..i live in washington state and we have a serious illegal issue here.
my condolences and my support.
Larry
Sheriff, next time you’re feeling a little heavy in the foot, just be sure you are in Fairfield. Despite what anyone may think, the police officers in Fairfield ARE NOT ALLOWED TO EXCEED THE SPEED LIMIT to make traffic stops!! Now, I know someone a LOT smarter than me came up with this policy ’cause I just can’t figure it out! By definition a speeder is exceeding the speed limit, and by policy a police officer here can’t drive fast enough to stop them! I sincerely appreciate your fairness in insisting upon a citation. If you make the same mistake in Fairfield you’ll have to notice you’re speeding on your own, feel guilty and turn yourself in to Chief Dickey. Don’t look for a Fairfield officer to hold you to citizen standards the way your deputy did….they’ll be too busy coughing in your dust and driving Miss Daisy. Seriously, as a Fairfield resident I would like to ask you to have your deputies run radar on route 4…..it is going to get dangerous around here if this becomes common knowledge.
I am disgusted to see and hear all of this garbage on tv and radio about Sheriff Jones. This man is nothing more than a bigot that is supported by biggots. Where do you get off sir, coming on tv and talking about hispanic immigrants the way that you did? True, there are a lot of immigrants here that need to be deported because of the crimes that they committ. However, this in no way represents the total population of immigrants, illegal or legal, to give you the right to speak in the way that you have. Shame on you. Maybe if you spent more time trying to get all the garbage off the streets, no matter what their “status” is, Butler county wouldn’t be such a crappy place to live. I personally do everything I can to not support the economy and gonverment of your county and I will continute to do so until they get someone in that office that has half a brain.
Anonymous–
Sometimes I wonder where people come from when calling the Sheriff a bigot. I think that high time that someone speak out. I believe that this country was based on immigration. Most of us are from elsewhere. However, we did it legally. I am tired of all of the bleeding hearts trying to prove a point while this country goes to pot with illegals. I work hard and I work long hours to support my family and to make sure that we have health coverage and I pay taxes. Why is it that illegals can get food stamps and free health? Why should I miss my kids events because I have to keep insurance but these people dont? I am tired of it and I am glad that someone is sticking up for me. Shame on you anonymous for not caring about the security of this great country. If anyone is ignorant it would be you and the others who are so bent on being self important that you forget about the little guy.
Sheriff Jones,
Thank you for standing up for Americans.
I receive a small retirement pension which doesn’t
allow me to get tax reductions, free…,free training for another career… Last night I was told there is a meat processing plant off SR 4 that pays 10 hour.
I have only been able to locate PT work at $7$8
hour when I have a M.S. + 30. As a property owner, I am concerned about how long I will
be able to be a property owner.
It’s connections and with my race, age, etc. I
haven’t “networked” yet with the “right” people.
Evidentally, the “majority” may be Spanish and make
several offices theirs in the upcoming election?
If being illegal and not respecting our laws, how will
the “group” be for leaders in our communities and country?

Well I’m guessin that not too many people knows the laws here for the Immigration and deportation of the illegal immigrants eh? Well, I happen to know a few of thier laws I’d like to share……If an illegal immigrant is put on probation, involved in the court system in anyway then they will NOT be deported.Even if that immigrant was caught, arrested and charged they will NOT be deported. If an illegal alien is foced to pay child support(wich they can be)and fails to pay it, then they wont be deported. As long as they are involved in the system once again…And some people wonder why they arent getting deported..I also work long and hard hours to pay for my familys insurance…..so,if you all think about it a little,YOu’ll knowthat sheriff Jones is only doing the right thing for us!!!!!! He has my support!!!
Sheriff,
I take pleasure in joining this long list of people complimenting your efforts, in repairing a system that is broke. It will continue to be broke unless people quit being afraid of seeming politicly incorrect, because of the issue.
I am a 28 year police officer and a Police Chief for many years. I took great offense from the previous writer wanting to know where they can get thier “free pass-from traffic tickets”.
I know where they can sign up for a police academy and put thier life on the line for large groups of people who are not even smart enough to appreciate them. Low pay and few enlightened friends are not benifits nor is getting out of tickets. I work mostly in rural areas and have worked as a deputy and in a metro area. In all events it seemed to make sense to me to use common sense and discretition given to me by the people. Not a free pass but a right to use my brain. I have to be ethical ( even if I did not wish to- try living in a glass house and driving glass cars for 28 years) and I have to be fair. But, I refuse to take any b.s. from people that cannot be the same. Way to go Sheriff. You have gained the loyalty and respect you deserve from your deputies because of your common sense, ethics and your example!

Sheriff:
I would like to see you organize a peacefull rally in Butler County for Americans who want action taken regarding the illegal alien problem. Maybe you can get with Willie and get something going in the Hamilton-Fairfield area. I know you would have a tremendous turn-out, especially with you and Willie taking the stage. Put out the bat signal and the American People will come!!!!
Ha Ha. Can’t you see this was nothing but a staged media stunt. Give me a break!
Sheriff Richard K. Jones
My complements to you Sheriff Jones. that not only going after illegal aliens but also for your attempt to get the employers. Lock up some of them and it might show others what can happen to them. The laws are there but you seem to be the only one with the guts to do what is called to enforce them. If the demand from the employers dries up the illegal aliens will not have the desire to come to this county, and other parts of this country.
I do wonder if you are getting any support from other sheriffs and are they enforcing the law as you are and if not why not. It seems that we do not have any politicians state and national willing to do what is necessary to enforce the laws that we have. Perhaps they do not wish to up set the illegal aliens, will they sure are upsetting the non-illegal and I hope the voters let them know when it come time to vote. I was a contractor when I was employed, I would be hired by different companies, I, as a US citizen had to prove that I was a US citizen each time, but the illegal aliens do not. I find that this is madding to me. As a taxpayer I thank you, and will show it at the poles when I vote.
James F. Humphreys
Sheriff Jones sir:
A rally in the Hamilton / Fairfield area with Willie is a great idea! Citizens for LEGAL immigration not illegal migration. The silent majority needs to be heard. (In English of course)
Sheriff Jones….. Great job so far on illegal aliens. Keep up the good work.
Please start a listing of all companies found to be using illegal aliens and I for one will NOT do any business with them.
Nice web page! Very sharp. I love the content here. Glad I came across your blog. This was a fun site!.
Hey Sheriff Jones,
Just came across your site whilst searching for news and info related to speeding, and whilst I wouldn’;t normally post to a blog like this, I felt I had to hear. Well done for sticking to the law, and not taking a Sly Stallone/Judge Dredd “I AM the law” approach.
If only there were more law enforcement officers like yourself.
Andy
Butler County and Hamilton in particular are now known as a racist, unwelcoming area of the state of Ohio mostly thanks to Sherriff Jones.Do not worry anyone who is illegal will not come to your area and people who are open minded and care about the plight of others will stay away and not do business there. Coming her legally is almost impossible–takes at least 10 years and you have to bribe officials. Unless you have walked in the shoes of an illegal immigrant,do not assume you know their story.
I applaud your efforts to do something to stop the insanity of letting illegal aliens rape our country, our economy, and health of Americans who now find themselves infested with third world diseases and if it hasn’t made it to your county yet, it will. I am talking TB!!!! Beware of it. I’m in Texas and we have had a surge of many health related issues anywhere from head and body lice to whooping cough, giardia, and worst of all, tuberculosis. Signs posted in the hospital ER’s where I live actually have to explain, in Spanish, sneeze and cough etiquette. Etiquette???? TB can be deadly! And that’s how the situation should be approached. Half of the illegals caught running the Texas border are positive for TB. Of those offered free treatment on site 70% refuse treatment and opt to be released back into Mexico. Of course, they will beat the border patrol back to the border and eventually they will bring third world disease to all of our country because they can’t be inconvenienced at the Texas border long enough to be cured at taxpayer expense.
And by the way, it made me smile to read about your speeding ticket, Sheriff ~ you are to be admired.
stop refering to them as aliens they are not from another planet. the correct term would be illegal immigrant….. all this blog is, is a place for racist to speak thier hate to other racist so goood for you sheriff Jones i guess you accomplished your goal……YOUR THE BIGGEST RACIST!!!!!!!
