Mexico should pay for illegals!
Most recently we have been involved with a large drug bust where two illegal aliens were arrested for involvement in yet another fake ID scam and prostitution crime.
Today, I am sending an invoice to the Mexican Government; President Felipe Calderón for the expenses we incurred intercepting and confiscating 55 pounds of marijuana at $1,000.00 per pound ($55,000.00) and for the expense of my employees’ time to conduct the investigation.
I have given the Mexican government 60 days to pay this invoice, which will be paid to the Butler County general fund.
I am asking the Mexican President to seal his borders to keep the poison from entering this country and Butler County!
The Cincinnati Enquirer has more details HERE.
Images of the actual letters I sent can be viewed here in both English and Spanish.
Update: Here is a local story you may want to check out. Area employers told to stop hiring illegal immigrants
Sheriff Jones
WOW!! That is awesome. Please keep up the good fight. I am happy to see that you are doing everything you can to fix this problem. I dont think they are going to pay but who cares! You are not giving up and I appreciate that. Good for you. I am really proud of you. I have said before that you will ALWAYS have my vote. ALWAYS!
Sheriff, Great job!!! When the Federal Government is derelict in its duties to guard our borders for the protection of the citizenry of this country, it is up to the States and local governments to enforce the law on behalf of the people. Whether by intent or by proxy, this is exactly what you are doing and I am all for it!!!
Now, it would be nice if the State Department take note of the will of the people as witnessed by the fact that you were elected into our County Executive Branch, and they take up the fight and force the payment of the bill.
With so many government agencies seeming to forget that their power is actually derived from the will of the people, it is so rereshing to see that there are some who are willing to fight for the people. Again, Great Job, Sir!!!!
Sheriff, I have a question…
I read in the Enquirer that you have also sent bills similar to this to the US Government for reimbursement of housing illegal aliens…my question is this: to whom were the bills sent?
I would like to know who we can contact in order to support the demand for payment of these bills.
Thank you.
the president should not pay for that becuase it a free country over here and it better over here than there. i think that the president of Mexico should not have to pay becuase it not fair that most of the marijuana did not come from there it come from texas not meixco. I think president bush should get in trouble for let them all in because he said come in.
man aeb you can shut up you just sorry that maybe one day that some mexican is going to take your sould mate and maybe invining marrie one oof your kide if you have one
Every state and county should be accountable for reporting their economic losses deprived from the citizens of this country and reported to the government. In turn, the totality of those bills should be forwarded to those countries responsible for their citizens with sanctions provided to those countries that do not conform.
i think that all need to stop picking on the mexican and start picking on the other LEGALS sides the mexican and i think that if all take his side that may be you all will fill bad with out most mexicans there would not be no store for us to go shopping most AMERICAN PEOPLE do nothing and that will take then six months to build and a mexican can get it done like one month so you think. you all will fill bad when you all get your job back and your buildung a store for poor people and that will take you six to seven month to build when them poor people are surfing. when a MEXICAN can build one in about three weeks while you all are laying on your butt doing nothing and getting paid more.
I am not quite sure that I fully understand the point that Heather is trying to make. I appreciate other opinions however they do need to make sense.
Mr Jones You da man. You continue to keep your eye on the ball, out think, and preform every other politicion in this county and at times the entire state. You and your highly trained officers deserve accoades from this county.
On the issue of sending a bill to Mexico I would expand this to include every business man in this county that aid and abet illegals,no exceptions.I would also stop if possible local banks from issuing a VISA without a visa if you know what I mean. Bankers are out of control.
In closing I only wish the police chief ,city manager, mayor, and sitting judge in my city had half the conviction you do that illeagal immigration and it’s many tentacles have such an impact on our daily lives. Bless you my friend.
The Washington Times has heard of my invoice and ran a story in their March 8th edition.
Hopefully, the word will get to the people with the power to do something about our unsecure borders!
WashingtonTimes
We the american people need to send the president, congress, and mexico a bill. They are wasting our taxes on illegals. We are borrowing more and more and part of the reason is to support illegals. My grandchildren will never be able to pay off the debt that we gathering right now.
BAL,
Send a bill to the pres and congress, and IF they paid it, it would be with your own money…ie taxes. I understand your frustration. Take the time to read and learn the US Constitution. You will readily see that much of what our government does is plainly illegal. For instance, there is NO Constitutional authority for Welfare. There is NO Constitutional authority for a US Dept or Education. Lots and lots of things. Unforetunately, once a government gets so big that it can give you everything you need, then it is also big enough to take away everything you have. Keep these issues in mind when you vote. Learn your rights as a juror, and if you ever get called to jury duty, keep these issues in mind. Voting and jury duty are about the only ways that a single individual can “fight back” against big government.
IM TOTALLY CONFUSED IN THIS SITUATION I WATCHED A ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT WALK FREE FROM BUTLER COUNTY JAIL AS GOD IS MY WITNESS.
I have regularly read these blogs since the inception. I find it humorous that there are some who will defend illegal immigration to the end, but by reading their vocabulary, they are the ones who have been cheated out of decent education. The argument is an old one, but has been proved many times over in this blog. We are failing to educate the legal citizens of this country. The school systems are screaming for more money due, in large part, to the inability of the systems to handle the influx of the illegal immigrants children when their parents are not paying taxes. Think real hard before you say they do, 90% of illegals are working in construction where they don’t pay taxes out of their check, their supposed to file their taxes with a 1099 form - which doesn’t happen. Futhermore, our healthcare system is going down the tubes. Have you ever wondered why you go to the emergency room for an allergic reaction, get a shot of Benedryll, and get charged $800.00? It’s because the hospitals have to make up the difference for providing care to the uninsured. Which brings up the point of who in this country is unisured? If you work full time you have some form of insurance, if your diabled you have ssi, retired has medicare, and the poor have medical cards. Who does that leave - ILLEGALS!! The next question is, why do people come here illegally? It’s not that hard really, you can get a work visa, student visa, posses a marketable skill we need in this country (hence German scientists in the 50’s and 60’s, or Indian and Columbian doctors now), or if you can’t meet those criteria, join the Marines! Our armed forces have been in combat for over four years now, if you really want to come here for a better life, join the military and you can be a legal citizen! For those who are legal citizens and have children with illegals, you made your bed, you lay in it. I don’t care if their Illegal father is deported, you can get a job like everyone else. If both parents are illegal, the parents should be deported, if they want their children to stay there are plenty of churches that will sponsor their children. Yes I am a christian, and those of you that would try and use that against me (by saying that those are not christian morals) I would encourage you to read Hebrews 13, verse 17 - “Obey them that have rule over you, and submit yourselves”, and those who have rule over you are the government. Nowhere in the bible does it give you permission to disregard the law of whatever country you may be in. If we could manage the health and education of our own citizens immigration would not be an issue, but we are failing our own citizenry. Sheriff Jones, keep up the good fight, my children will thank you!
It’s sad that everyone is pointing their fingers at the illegal immigrants and Mexico. The real problem is our government. I understand the pressures and the instabilities that this may cause our economy, but going after illegals and writing pointless letters to the Mexican government will not resolve the issue. We need to put the pressure on our leaders for resolution. IF YOU WANT ACTION, stop harassing the Latin population and start harassing OUR government, since they are the ones with the power. Am I wrong?
nlc:
I read your post after posting my own. In regards to medical insurance, it is absolutely ignorant to believe that all legal workers in the US have benefits. Many companies offer insurance that an individual working minimum wage can not afford. It’s not just illegals that don’t pay taxes, read this website:
http://www.commondreams.org/news2005/0414-03.htm
And a career in the military?! Not everyone is suited to fight a war that is based on lies in the pursuit of more oil.
Also, religion has nothing to do with politics. I am a Christian, but I also believe in the rights of the people regardless of demoniation, race or ethnicity.
One more thing that I thought was interesting in the letter. American bouncers can’t tell from a foreign fake ID either. They have no idea where the date of birth is located and will let minors in without question. Can the same be said for us?
Most of us would choose to get our news from credible sources. The commondreams.org “news and views for the progressive community” does not appear to be credible or unbiased.
Its just an example…I am not going to go through different websites to find a more credible source.
This is a very interesting situation Mr. Jones has put Butler County in… Is he a politician or a Sherriff?? Mr. Jones, you seem as though you are more interested in the deporting the illegals than working with the other agencies to correct crime all over the county (for example – The Hamilton City Police Department has been trying to build alliances with the Hispanic population and with your political views and actions, you are making this difficult for your comrades in arm, are you not?).
I am a legal citizen, a property owner, a tax payer and work in the county. I am one of the people who help support your quest for power over the illegal immigrants. I have witnessed now on more than one occasion (this morning being the most recent) your officers harass what was believed to be a Latino. Who has given the “order†to profile? Although I have no evidence it was you, I do know that you are not the one who is demanding it be stopped. Who is breaking the law now?
Once I saw your incredible stunt in sending the Mexican President a bill and the promotion of humiliating people (and yes, even the illegals are people), I have now lost any respect I once had for you.
I can’t image you putting so much effort into this while we have homeless people on our streets in Butler County – not to mention all of the people who are going hungry each day. Don’t you believe it is time to shift your focus elsewhere? Yes, we have illegals – the bill board sign (paid with my tax dollars) with a picture of you larger than life size allowed everyone to see your point of view…now how about taking into consideration the point of view of a legal tax paying citizen?
Mr. Jones, I will leave you with one closing thought – we are all immigrants from somewhere – we all came over from other countries – we can’t say that all of our ancestors were legal – but they came here to fulfill a dream and create a better future for their families…I will ask you not to make more problems, but attempt to create a “win-win†for all.
Please consider doing the job we (tax payers) are paying you to do. By focusing only on the illegals – there are some major issues you are ignoring.
Considering moving out of Butler County and Changing jobs out of Butler County to where a Sherriff want to be a Sherriff – not a local celebrity.
AMEN HOMEOWNER!!!!!
Why do some people say this country is made up of immigrants including our president. I don’t know about you but I was born in america and consider myself an American citizen not an immigrant.
Just a suggestion…….
What if when you find an illegal alien, you let him do a night in the hoosegow, maybe pay a small fine, but at the same time, have him fill out a temporary work permit. He gats a copy, you get a copy. His copy keeps him from getting busted again by the cops, and you begin the paperwork to get him legal status. Sound too simple ?
The local govt gets a bit of money, the illegal does a bit of jail, BUT he can then go back to work providing for his family and he doesn’t have to worry about being busted again.
We must find a way to absorb the folks already here. The emphasis must be on stopping the influx across the borders, from everywhere.
Won’t please everyone, but it could be a good start to solving the problem.
Just a thought…
Bill
Perhaps we should settle the immigration debate by doing what’s fair. All we have to do is mirror our laws to reflect the laws of the country the immigrant is from. Oh, wait, that means we would have to snatch the illegal immigrants of the street, beat and rob them, then drive them to the southern border and physically push them out of the country. After all, that’s what Mexico does to illegals in their country. By the way homeowner, I’m sorry you are offended by the Sheriff posting billboards outlining laws on them. I personally don’t like the speed limit and deaf children signs, those should be taken down also.
I wonder if Homeowner ever votes, because if she did, she would know that the office of Sheriff is a political position that the taxpayers (and many who do not pay taxes as well) elect. If you don’t like him, don’t vote for him, but it’s absurd to criticize a politician for being a politician.
Her assertion that arresting people for committing crimes is somehow wrong because it humiliates them is equally absurd. They humiliate themselves by being criminals. The deputies are doing the job we need them to do.
As to the billboard, it’s simply a matter of crime prevention and I would suspect it saves us money in the long run.
By every measure I can think of, the Sheriff is doing the job he needs to do. He does not do it flawlessly, but he does it as well as any human could. We’ll get to see if the majority of voters agree this November, and I’ll bet they do.
Finally, if you want to move out of Butler County, I welcome that. Let me know when you are moving and I’ll help you load the truck.
“Her assertion that arresting people for committing crimes is somehow wrong because it humiliates them is equally absurd. They humiliate themselves by being criminals. The deputies are doing the job we need them to do.”
No, her assertion was that Hispanic people were being harassed before it was even known if they were in this counrty legally or not.

“As to the billboard, it’s simply a matter of crime prevention and I would suspect it saves us money in the long run.”
This is quite an assumption. Do you also believe in Santa Claus and the tooth fairy? As a taxpayer who thinks that someone with a contrary opinion must not be one, do you really give this much leeway to public officials?
Calling an illegal alien an “undocumented immigrant” is like calling a drug dealer an “unlicensed Pharmacist.”
if an illegal immegrant SNITCHES HE WALKS FREE MAN THEY SHOULD NOT USE THEM FOR THIS IN OUR COUNTY. ANYONE AGREE?????
What do you say to this Jones?
Butler County is a troubled institution. Its four suicide deaths give it a suicide rate in the past year of more than 500 per 100,000. Studies have put the annual rate of jail suicide at from 47 to 114 per 100,000.
Why don’t you work on your jail instead of harassing hard-working latinos!!! Get a life.
YOU GO ACLU!! Pay attention to your jail Jones!!! HAMILTON, OH–The American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Butler County Commissioners today urging them to launch an immediate and thorough investigation into a string of suicides at the Butler County Jail. On Sunday, Timothy James Hughes, 19, was found dead in his cell after committing suicide, making him the fourth inmate at Butler County Jail to die similarly in under a year.
ACLU of Ohio Staff Counsel Carrie Davis said, “When even one inmate dies while in the care of the state, it is an indicator that they are not properly supervised. Four inmates dying in such a small timeframe is almost unthinkable.â€
Davis went on, “The urgency of this situation warrants the DOJ to take immediate steps to investigate all aspects of procedures, practices and staffing at the jail. They and the county must take direct action before another inmate loses his or her life.”
In addition to the letter to the DOJ and Butler County Commissioners, the ACLU of Ohio is also requesting information from the county regarding the practices and policies of the jail. Such items may include how often guards check prisoners, the ratio of staff to inmates, and protocols for guards to ensure the safety of inmates.
In June 2006, the ACLU of Ohio requested records from the Butler County Coroner following the deaths of Elmer Eli Tucker, 38, on June 17 and Delbert Osbourne, Jr., 19, on June 22. Both men committed suicide by hanging themselves in their jail cells.
Thomas Raymond Brotherton, 49, was the next inmate found hanging in his cell at 12:15 a.m. on March 31. Slightly more than a week later, news of the fourth inmate, Timothy James Hughes became public.
Davis concluded, “Four people losing their lives while in the government’s care is simply unacceptable. Butler County officials and the DOJ must take a long, hard look at the conditions within the jail, the amount of care and supervision each inmate receives and the practices and procedures the jail employs to ensure safety for those incarcerated. Something is terribly wrong and must be changed before another person needlessly dies.”
YOUR MOTTO: “I have adopted the motto “Spectemur Agendo†which translates to “Let us be judged by our Actionsâ€. I believe in accountability, responsibility, and a certain “esprit de corpsâ€.
YOU ARE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THOSE SUICIDES Hispanic, American, or otherwise. Own up to your responsibility as you say… Spectemur Agendo Sheriff!”
ACLU Demands Department of Justice Investigate Deaths at Butler County Jail
Sherrif Jones, this would apply to EVERYONE in your jail, even the hispanics! PROTECT YOUR INMATES instead of picking on latinos.

I fully understand and agree that immigrants should come to this country legally! However, your signs outside the jail that MY tax dollars help pay for are an embarrassment and come across as grossly prejudicial!!! Where are the signs that say “WHITE TRASH HERE
As for youre letter to President Calderon, you honestly can’t expect him to reply, or at least not with a check! Why not send one to the governor of Kentucky since KY has long been a huge source of marijuana? Or the governor of Hawiia? Why don’t we include the presidents of all the central american countries where cocaine is produced? Don’t you have something better to do on my tax dime than write letters that will not be taken seriously or is it just about SELF-PROMOTION????
GRASSCAT - You are absolutely right - that was the quote from my post. What I witness was mind boggling. I would hate to be that person who was harassed. BILL MONROW: you have a very valued point. Please tell me - why is that an elected official has not come up with that thought?
Pro Immigration for our hard-working Latinos: You are absolutely right - but did you notice - Mr. Jones didn’t respond when requested? Think about this - how much does this blog and the feedback from his community really mean to him?
BOB: Wow - thank you for offering to load the truck. Funny though, I am a college educated person and from your post, I bet you would have never guessed that about me. And yes, I do vote, however there are countless people out here that don’t. I do wish you the best in what ever comes your way and it will be interesting to see where we are in November – you do realize that there is a major bill being created for immigration, right? Congress is eager to address this. They are just waiting on the paper shuffle to get straightened out. Bob, just imagine this: if more people felt like I do and actually spoke out about it and did something - how many people would be left in “good ole’ Butler Co - where the Sherriff spends countless dollars (my tax dollars) trying to figure out where and when and how much it cost for one bust.
By the way Mr. Jones, you never did publish that… how much did those letters cost us? There had to be countless people pulled – and perhaps even a committee created to do some cost accounting – please share with us what that cost – I am one citizen who is very eager to know.
Has anyone ever seen A Time To Kill? Remember the ending?
Imaging this - you are in your car - an officer of Butler County pulls in behind you - you are doing nothing wrong - however your heart does skip a beat as you change lanes and he changes them with you - this goes on for more than 10 minutes - what are you thinking at that point? Remember - you have done nothing wrong - but yet you realize the reputation Butler County now has… Are you thinking, “What have I done?” “How much is this going to cost me?” If you are like most people you live paycheck to paycheck – so where is that fine going to come from?
Are you a person who dark hair and eyes (and yes, hazel eyes count)? At some point or another – you have been in front of an officer – you know this feeling…
Now what are you thinking?
To all the people who read this blog… Imagine life being so horrible that you feel the only way out is to take your own life … this is what those four members of the jailhouse in Butler County did. If they committed crimes – they needed to pay (and I believe that) but should they have been left with the only thing left to pay with was their life?
Remember, you too could be in a position where you are sitting in the same jail cell they were - it may even be a case of mistaken identity - but wouldn’t you like the comfort of knowing there is another way out? I don’t have to give my life for this and I won’t have the opportunity because the officers are doing their jobs.
(moderator’s note: Sheriff Jones reads every comment posted on this blog)
ALL THE WAY HOMEOWNER and ACLU!!!!
they give all the good points, and reasons! Sheriff Jones, why did you take a job as a Sheriff when there was a great job at in hell as being a disgusting, pathetic, loser, un-human, evil, piece of scum murderer, well that just has YOU written all over it. : ) leave the hispanics alone, dont be jealous because they actually WORK HARD at a job given to them, are good people, and have A LIFE! i cant believe that people look up to you!! they are just evil, cruely absurd JACK*** like your self. please go drop off the face of the earth, so no one will have to see, or hear your SUINE-ISH words or actions ever again! Get a REAL SHERIFF in there who will not be cruel to people no matter what race or even illegal, wont harrass, or pick on them!
(moderated for language)
This is how I see it. There are those that come to this country to make a better life for themselves and actually try to do so by working and obeying our laws. Then there are those that come to our country to make a better life for themselves and do nothing but drink, drive with no license, damage not only personal property, but government property as well. Mexico should have to pay for these people! They are not our responsibility and we are already spending thousands of tax payers dollars to place them in our jail because they don’t have enough respect for our country to obey the law and appear in court like their citations tell them to.
I’d say get our boys the hell out of Iraq where they’re actually getting killed and line ‘em up along the border for a few months and have target practice on those illegals !!! what’s mexico gonna do, complain to the UN? enforce sanctions against us? we own the ridiculous UN; see if that doesn’t solve the issue… but it probably wouldn’t fly with all those damn liberals in DC.
We’re the land o’ the free, free to do what’s in our own interest damn it, that’s what Lady Liberty says right?
Hey Sheriff careful that weapon might discharge so tight against that belt. Power o’ Pride
The bottom line is that their is a process for getting into our country that is being ignored on both sides of our border. Until the people put enough pressure on their legislatures to take action, it will continue. I don’t know what, if anything can be done on a local level, but it’s definitely a growing problem.
Case in point - ****** distribution center. They are changing janitorial services next week. They decided to go with a “minority contractor”. While the previous janitorial service had two workers per shift, when the new service brought their crew in for training, they had at least 8-10 workers per shift - all Hispanic. You can’t tell me they underbid that other contractor, increased personnel x 5, and aren’t employing illegals!!! And it’s right up the street there on 63 under everyone’s noses and not a thing being done about it. So please don’t tell me that it’s all about the illegals taking jobs others don’t want. They just took the jobs of some people who didn’t want to lose theirs, and there is nothing right about it.
(Moderated)
to Beau Harlen, you are the one who should be have target practice done on! you are dispicable, and cruel for saying the nasty, rediculous things that you said, especially the one about our soldiers having target practice on the mexicans!
The day this Senate amnesty bill passes will be recalled by future generations as the start of the downfall of our once great nation.
I never thought I’d see the day our own leaders would betray the very people they serve. La Raza wins……America loses. Unbelievable!
I see my comment was moderated to remove the identity of the company who has hired the janitorial service utilizing all the illegals. Fine………but why aren’t you taking action? I’ll gladly boycott their store, but since I’ve given you distinct information that they are employing illegals on 3 shifts at a very specific location, why isn’t anything being done about it? This is precisely what concerns me about this situation - our officials seem to be either powerless, or worse yet - UNWILLILNG to take action even when it’s right under their noses!!!
Moderator - Please submit your information using the form at http://www.butlersheriff.org/illegals/ so that the information will be confidential. The claims will then be looked into. Also, please include as much detail as possible.
Get a life, Sheriff. I’m scared in this world now that you’re in charge. Who got drunk and put you in power? Why are you so hateful towards your fellow man? You come off looking like a psycho, not a hero and you look really racist.
You go Sheriff Jones!!!
It is a proud day when people like you stand up for our country. If all our county Sheriffs were like you and Sheriff Joe, we would have a safer Nation. Standing behind you all the way!
Dear Sheriff:
I agree with your billing the U.S. Government for cost of detaining illegal aliens in your county due to the total failure of the Feds to live up to the Constitutiional PROMISE to the states (under Article IV, Section IV) that the states shall be protected against invasion. Interstingly enough, the Feds say “We don’t have the manpower to enforce our laws”, regardless of the millions of law abiding Americans who are willing to volunteer to provide the remedy set forth in that Constitution, under Article I, Section 8, paragraphs Fifteen and Sixteen.
The State Legislator who is working with you, should take time to read both Article IV, Section IV, and immediately read Article I, Section 8, paragraphs Fifteen and Sixteen. Then he can use that as an example of just how FAILED the 110th Congress actually is in doing their duty.
Good luck with your efforts.
Sincerely,
Gary Conner
Dripping Springs, Texas 78620
I Say Way To Go Beau Harlen and the Sheriff, and nlc I agree with your comment,
sheriff Jones is acting really racist towards the mexicans. He never said anything about this issue before. Why don’t he worry about the people (any race) that are hurting our kids or selling drugs? If you really look at the issue we are all illegal. Why don’t you get all the bad people off the streets and leave the mexicans alone? Most of the ones I know are hard working and they bust their butts just to take care of their familys. They come here looking for a better lifes for them and their familys. They are doing the jobs noone else wants to do and they don’t collect welfare like half of americans do . I think the sheriff needs to worry about the more serious issues right now.You have people that are bad in evey race you can’t blame the whole race just because of what one person did.

Our ancestors stole this land from the Indians so in a way none of us are legal.
If the Sheriff wants to deal with illegals more than other crimes then he should join The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly known as the INS).
