I am asking for Governor Strickland and Congressman Brown to come forward and do what they can to end the AK Steel lockout.

Sheriff Jones,
I think the fact that AK Steel refuses to meet with the governor in the presence of the union, the city council and yourself speaks volumes about their interest in ending the lockout. Thank you for taking an active interest in the lockout and the ripple effect it is having on the families and the community. I am the wife of an AK locked out worker and know firsthand how difficult it has been during this past year. The company obviously has an agenda and timeline. The union has been willing to compromise and have agreed to many concessions, but the company has yet to wander very far from their corner. We are willing to accept less than the least of the other contracts settled with the AK plants, the company needs to take a few small steps forward and we will have a contract. We appreciate your efforts, Sheriff Jones. You are truly an advocate for the citizens of Butler County. God bless.
Thanks for your help with the AK situation. It is nice to see someone with backbone in the Sheriffs office. You have earned the loyalty of all of us locked out workers. It is not hard to see what an unjust act AK has pulled on its workers. It has boiled down to AK super executive egos getting a laugh out of grinding the faces of the workers into the mud a little more each day. At least you understand how callous and wrong this situation is in Middletown. It’s not about a Union demanding huge gains…. its about trying to minimize the workers losses. It’s about corporate greed at the cost of thousands of area families who are being wiped out. It’s a despicable, reprehensable act perpetrated against a workforce who just a few years ago was called ,by the then AK CEO, Dick Wardrop “The best, most productive and safest steel workers in the world”. What has happened in Middletown is a crime against decency. These politicians who have sat quietly by and watched this happen, will hopefully be voted out soon. Thank you for your stong efforts, not to interfere as AK would claim, but to bring about an end to this heinous and unnecessary conflict.
Good for you Sheriff. It is about time someone do something for the union workers. I support you in this and all endeavors. I appreciate you standing up for what is right, not just what is politically correct. It is about time we have someone who uses their influence for what is right!!!
I am not and never have been employed at AK Steel. You are right on in your attempt to bring them to the negotiating table. It is a shame they snubbed the governor. In 1969 I was on strike at the Manchester Machine Company in Monroe, Ohio. We were out for 13 weeks. At least 3 days a week for 8 hours a day the company and the union “hammered it out” until a settlement was reached. AK and the Union have NEVER negotiated. All they have done is exchange contract proposals. Keep after them Jones !!
I’d like to hear more about AK calling the Police on Sherrif Jones because he had stopped to visit the picketers.
This is a clear example of how AK slants everything to the point of being a lie. They did not know that the visitor was the Sherrif, so they defaulted to him being a trouble maker. I wondrr how many of the “nail” claims fall into that category?
Sheriff,
Thank you for the outstanding job that you are doing for the people of Butler County. It is bothersome that you and Mike Fox are the only two elected officials are standing up for the workers locked out at AK Steel. But it is greatly appreciated by folks that really need help. I like the webcam too.
