Sheriff Jones — January 12, 2007, 3:48 pm

Illegal IS Illegal. Period.

After watching the news for the last few days, it appears that our federal government has shifted it’s full focus to the war in Iraq and rightfully so. However, here on the homefront, we cannot forget our own borders and homeland security!
It seems at times that we in the heartland are speaking for the nation in regards to illegal aliens and unsecured borders destroying our system of checks and balances.
We must continue to fight on our homefront for what is right. No matter WHY our borders are crossed, illegal IS illegal.
I have just begun to fight and will continue to fight for what is right.

Sheriff Richard Jones

Abbie Hoffman was referring to drugs not people. She was saying that both legal and illegal drugs can be used for treatment and that illegal and legal drugs can be abused. Her feeling was that drugs should be legal for medical purposes and drug abuse should be illegal. The quote does not apply to the subject matter at hand.

    and Racist is Racist. Period.

  6. Comment by aeb @ January 17, 2007, 10:02 pm

I personally do not agree that Jones is a racist. I think that he is enforcing the laws that are already in place and everyone else is afraid to enforce. I have said before that I think that it is great that the Sheriff gives us a format to express our opinions on what he is doing. I appreciate hearing different opinions. I think that it is a learning experience for everyone that logs onto this blog to hear everyone’s beliefs. I would like to see more people back up their opinions with actual points rather than just anger.

  7. Comment by Mike Marchione @ January 18, 2007, 6:41 pm

I think that he is trying to enforce the immigration lawls so bad (laws that are obviously broke and i need to be changed for rules that work and are realistic with the world in which we live). He also is neglecting his duties and is acting as an immigration officer rather than as a Sheriff.

  8. Comment by aeb @ January 19, 2007, 11:36 pm

Mike–I see your point. I would try looking at the stats though. If you see BCSO’s stats you would see that immigration arrests are significantly less than other crimes. A crime is a crime. The Sheriff was elected to enforce ALL the laws. Not just the ones that you and I feel the most strongly about. If you, and others like you, dont agree with that then it is up to you to try to have the law of immigration changed. I personally believe the Sheriff is right to do what he is doing. I agree with him, as I have said before, one hundred percent. I think that the illegal immigrants are a strain on our system. I think that illegal’s are not paying the correct amount of taxes but their children are going to public schools that we do have to pay for.

    Illegal aliens are not special!

All criminals are “scared and afraid” of being caught. I’m sorry but law enforcement is not scaring the illegals. They have done this to themselves and they should be worried about getting caught. Frankly, if it bothers them so much they can pack up and go back to where they belong. That’s just an excuse to get Americans off their backs and to make us feel guilty about kicking them out. I will not wear that guilt trip. Illegal aliens have done this to themselves and when Johnny Law comes a knocking I don’t care if they cry. Illegal Aliens are criminals and we need to deal with them like they are criminals. Arrest them and swift justice. Nothing else needs to be said.

PS Their kids can go home with their parents.

  10. Comment by Bob Curtis @ January 27, 2007, 1:56 pm

Why can’t the federal government think like you. This illegal situation is ridiculous. The problem with Washington is that there are no more patriots only greedy politicians with one thing on their mind — re-election. Keep after the illegals. The majority of Americans back you 100%.

  11. Comment by Bob @ January 28, 2007, 4:31 pm

    Joknows,

I agre with you completely except for your post script. If the children are born here, then they are U.S. Citizens and deserve all the priveleges and responsibilities of being a U.S. citizen. However, that should in no way be passed on to their parents, otherwise having children becomes a get-out-of-jail-free card (or at least a get out of deportation free card). If a kid’s parents are incarcerated, the children become wards of the state. Why not give the children of parents who are deported the same option?

Nevertheless, with regard to the Sheriff’s message, he is again, completely correct. Illegal is illegal.

You are absaloutely right! illegals are illegals. So, when do you plan on going back to your country because I don’t believe you are Native American. I wasn’t aware that we are giving back the land that was wrongfuly and horribly taken from them. Finally someone that thinks and and realizes that illegals should be sent to their country, all non Native Americans, YOU.

I agree with Irene… I’m Hispanic born and bred here in the states, from US Citizen parents, also born and bred here and I think this whole immigration fiasco is nothing but media and press ratings. Because if you sit and think its true what Irene states, we are all immigrants the only people that can call themselves true North Americans are the Native Americans. This land was theirs and we all little by little took it away from them.

Sheriff Jones… I think you should worry about CRIMINALS PERIOD… Than just worrying about the “ILLEGAL ALIEN” Because in the country we live in today there are all kinds of criminal, it doesn’t matter where they come from or if they are here illegally or not. Think about the gruesome serial killers here in the states… Were they “ILLEGAL ALIENS” We have to worry about CRIMINALS PERIOD, no matter what status they have in this country or where are they from….

My ancestors came through Ellis Island as did more than 12 million other immigrants. Entering this county through one of the immigration stations such as Ellis Island and becoming a naturalized citizen the hard way is in no way comparable to the way illegal aliens are entering our country today.

    Sheriff Jones,
Some of our residents would be outraged to learn what illegal immigrants are entitled to in our Great Country. Did you know that someone working illegally will receive credit for their illegal wages when they obtain legal status? Social Security is required to post their wages to their Social Security number once they have proven legal status, even if they earned the wages WHILE ILLEGAL?!?
I was outraged when I learned of this law, but it is the law. In my humble opinion, they broke the law working illegally and should forfeit Social Security credits if they were not legal at the time it was earned.
I welcome your feedback on this matter.

Two words for IIL…. Angel Resendez….

And Irene…what do you consider a Native American? Dictionary . com states that a Native American is a person BORN in the United States.

The oldest skeleton ever found on an American continent belongs to a 26 year old woman of Caucasian (white) European descent. She was found near Mexico City, Mexico and dates to about 13,000 years old.

The Kennewick Man skeleton unearthed in 1996 in Washington State (U.S.A.) is estimated to be 8,400 years old and has typical Caucasian characteristics as well. He existed in N. America well before the “Native” American Indians. This research may have implications regarding the ancient burial rights of N. American “Indians.

So based on this latest research and your theory, does this mean that Caucasian Americans should “take back” Mexico?

Seriously Irene, ‘who was here first’ is not the issue. The issue is about abiding by the laws that WE the people voted for in America… it’s about doing the RIGHT thing….and not straying from, cheating or avoiding the law.

Referring to illegals, what else would draw so much attention. My question, how did they all end up here in the first place. Was it that we just opened our eyes and poof….they were here…I’ve been told by reliable sourse that actially works at interrepter at times that the illegals claim single and 6 dependents, therefore drawing the most out of a check. Also was told that at times police were reluctant to arrest illegal due to miranda rights being understood and proving that they were etc. Easier to look the other way and move on.
The store on High St. actually has the money sending site as most illegals don’t trust our way of using expressing money..Directly from there they feel safe their family is recieving all of what they send…Correct me if I’m wrong….

Sheriff please keep that view and enforce the laws like you do. I moved from cincinnati in may to Phoenix and our Sheriff tried to enforce this law and was attacked with alot of opposition as I am sure you saw on the news. Its amazing to see all the tax monies that we LAWFULL citizens Give is wasted by people who do nothing to contribute.

Try thinking of America as your home. If you fail to control the numbers and quality of guests you allow to come live in your home, you will soon have no home. You will probably be run out of your home or murdered for the few possessions you had worked most of your life to acquire. This is why we have immigration control. When people enter your home illegally, they are subject to be treated as a criminal. Why then, do illegal immigrants feel they have the right to take over our home and ignore our laws?

  22. Comment by Rob @ February 27, 2007, 8:31 am

    To All,
I guess I will play the Devil’s Advocate on this one.
First, “Illegal” must be defined. I know, most people are going to say that that anything against the Law is “illegal”, and in a sense, that is true, but it begs the question…what is the “Law”.
Please remember that this country is a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy. That means that the US Constitution is the basis for ALL Laws in this country, (or at least is supposed to be). After that, the State Constitution has authority, just so long as it doesnt interfere with the rights, priviledges, and immunities guaranteed by the US Const.
So, back to the question…is a drug legal or illegal?
Constitutionally speaking, a person has an inalienable right to do WHATEVER they want to themselves, just so long as their actions do not pose an imminent threat, nor harm, the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness of another citizen. So, “legally”, an individual has the inalienable right to pump whatever they want into their veins for whatever reason they choose to do it, just as long as they do not hurt or imminently threaten someone else in the process.
The question really comes about because of production and distribution….THOSE are Constitutionally illegal, because the actions now effect someone else.

Sheriff Jones, thank you for all your work and efforts to clean up Butler County. I am really looking forward to the results of your efforts.

Usaffinity…so do you get your sources from kkk.com??? or natzis.com???? or where????????? Please …please do “educate” me on the “American” history. Two words for you Timothy McVeigh! …. OUCH right???….see there’s a bad seed(s) in every culture so please don’t go there!

Here’s a definition I found on “Native American”

Native Americans are the indigenous people from the regions of North America now encompassed by the continental United States, including parts of Alaska. They comprise a large number of distinct tribes, states, and ethnic groups, many of which are still enduring as political communities. There is some controversy surrounding the names used: they are also known as American Indians, Indians, Amerindians, Amerinds, or Indigenous, Aboriginal or Original Americans. In Canada they are known as First Nations.

The U.S. states and several of the inhabited insular areas that are not part of the continental U.S. also contain indigenous groups. Some of these other indigenous peoples in the United States, including the Inuit, Yupik Eskimos, and Aleuts, are not always counted as Native Americans, although the US Census 2000 demographics listed “American Indian and Alaskan Native” collectively. Native Hawaiians (also known as Kanaka Māoli and Kanaka Ê»Oiwi) and various other Pacific Islander American peoples such as the Chamorros can also be considered Native American, but it is not common usually due to their different historical origin (i.e. Polynesian).

The European colonization of the Americas decimated the populations and cultures of the Native Americans. During the fifteenth through nineteenth centuries, their populations were ravaged by disease, displacement, enslavement, internal warfare, as well as conflicts with European explorers and colonists.

The first Native American group encountered by Christopher Columbus in 1492, were the 250 thousand to 1 million Island Arawaks (more properly called the Taino) of Boriquen (Puerto Rico), Dominican Republic (Quisqueya), the Cubanacan (Cuba), and Haiti. It is said that only 500 survived by the year 1550, and the group was considered extinct before 1650. Yet DNA studies show that the genetic contribution of the Taino to that region continues, and the mitochondrial DNA studies of the Taino are said to show relationships to the Northern Indigenous Nations, such as Inuit (Eskimo) and others.

In the fifteenth century, Spaniards and other Europeans brought horses to the Americas. Some of these animals escaped and began to breed and increase their numbers in the wild. Ironically, the horse had originally evolved in the Americas, but the early American horses were game for early human hunters, and went extinct about 7,000 BC, just after the end of the last ice age. The re-introduction of the horse had a profound impact on Native American culture in the Great Plains of North America. This new mode of travel made it possible for some tribes to greatly expand their territories, exchange goods with neighboring tribes, and more easily capture game.

Europeans also brought diseases, against which the Native Americans had no immunity. Chicken pox and measles, though common and rarely fatal among Europeans, often proved fatal to Native Americans, and more dangerous diseases such as smallpox were especially deadly to Native American populations. It is difficult to estimate the total percentage of the Native American population killed by these diseases. Epidemics often immediately followed European exploration, sometimes destroying entire villages. Some historians estimate that up to 80% of some Native populations may have died due to European diseases.

WOW!! huh? it’s a horrible thing that living in the 21st century and we are still on this racism crap. Think about it who will do all the work for a pay of almost nothing??? who will work the farms under those horrible conditions?? no benefits? fine let’s see documented people…better yet let’s see those that complain work those lands for the same pay, the same hours undocumented people do…Like I said there’s bad people in every race/culture…You complain that we want S.S. medical benifits and what not…and we all do..we all work, we all pay taxes so we also deserve the benefits…yes there are people that take adventage of the system but it’s not only “latinos” what about whites?…Please do your research and be more accurate….again, IF I’m wrong “educate” me..I’m an open minded person….and think about it…if “whites” wouldn’t have came into this country you probably wouldn’t be here…and neither would the sheriff….

  25. Comment by Louis @ March 7, 2007, 10:15 am

When an illegal comes into this country, they have broken a law.

When someone tells a lie, they have not told the truth.

When an illegal has broken a law, they will continue to break the law(s) to remain illegal.

When someone has not told the truth, they will continue to lie to cover the old lie.

Both progress in such a way so that the end result can only come to harm. The single act of crossing illegally leads to further acts of illegal activity to hide future illegal activities. As does the first lie leads to another to cover up the initial lie. At any given specific point, either act will blurr, ultimately misleading those away from the initial act.

I commend Sheriff Jones in that he apparently recognizes that one being in this country here illegally will ultimately lead to another form of illegal activity. If nothing else for than to just remain hidden. I do not believe that people enjoyed being lied to, yet illegals do it every day. Does the average person trust and have faith in habitual liars. No they do not. So…

I believe that Sheriff Jones has the forethought to realize that illegals, although apparently harmless to some, will do harm to someone else in one shape or form of another at some point during their stay whether envisioned or not at a local, or higher level. I do not live in Ohio at all. I live in Arizona where Sheriff Joe Arpiao has taken a similiar stand. I support your efforts Sheriff Jones and hope that your efforts, although trying, may be successful. I am in law enforcement and realize that illegal aliens commit an overwhelming number of crimes vs. those of a legal status. People have yet to realize that the only thing that you have done is take a pro-active stance towrds the protection of those in your community. Perhaps those that do not fully understand the issues will one day appreciate your efforts. That the illegal you arrested might have one day committed a crime against them, but was thwarted due to the arrest of the illegal. Unfortunately though sir, it is more probable that the illegal will commit the crime and your efforts will be criticized for being lacking, when in fact they were not. Keep up the good work from, support in Arizona

    Irene,

Did you read my post completely?…all the way to the end? I responded to YOUR comment about Sheriff Jones not being a Native American. You
said that the land was wrongfully and horribly taken away from “them.”

My POINT was, it doesn’t matter who was here
first, red, white, brown or yellow…color does not matter….My point was, that breaking the law is breaking the law.

I find it slightly amusing that you insinuate that I am racist and you don’t even know my race. I will tell you, I am Irish, Jamaican, African, French, AMERICAN INDIAN, and English…but I call myself AMERICAN.

The Poster “Ill” was the one that said: Think about the gruesome serial killers here in the states… Were they “ILLEGAL ALIENS?” So I thought about it and….well, YES, actually some WERE illegal aliens. The one I mentioned was stated as possibly being THE worst serial killer in the history of the United States. Poster “Ill” brought up the question to be pondered, not me. I merely responded to a question that was asked. So I did not ‘go there,’ I was invited there.

If you will read my previous post again, thoroughly this time, you will see that it absolutely was NOT racist…that I was pointing out to you that our skin color DOES NOT matter. That who was here first DOES NOT matter. You are the one throwing out
slanderous accusations about the KKK & Nazi’s. Shame on you. You were the one pointing out (without knowing Sherriff Jones race) that he was not Native American. Now who sounds racist?

And I think CNN, Scientific American, PBS, and dozens of other websites would find it interesting that you consider them to be KKK & Nazi websites.

Oh and thanks for the education on the history of the early horse population introduced into America…. (?)

And as far as your last paragraph?!? Whuh?! You said….

“You complain that we want S.S. medical benifits and what not…”

You must have me confused with another poster, because I DID NOT say or “complain” about S.S. medical benefits and ‘what not’…Please go back and read my post again.

    You also say…….

“Please do your research and be more accurate…”

Be more accurate about what? What exactly is inaccurate about my previous post? You didn’t clarify.

If you want to come to America to work, GREAT! I have no problem with that. It’s the American way! It’s the dream of many. It was the dream of my ancestors. But the question is, why can’t it be done through legal means?

And you call me racist? You’re still hung up on skin color…it’s obvious from your last sentence…”if ‘whites’ wouldn’t have came into this country you probably wouldn’t be here…and neither would
    the sheriff…”

Get off the skin color Irene….it’s NOT about the skin color. It’s about legal and illegal. I believe you’re trying to turn it into a racism issue when it’s not. And I think it’s very sad that when an
American asks that someone abide by the laws in their country, they are blasted with being called a racist.
    Very sad…
