Illegal Aliens
I have recently mailed a bill to the Federal Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICEâ€) for prisoners believed to be “Undocumented Aliens†currently housed in our jail. This bill, calculated through the end of October, is for a total of $71,610.00 covering the fifteen (15) identified individuals currently in jail, some of whom have been in jail since June, 2005. It represents a total of 1,023 billable days at $70.00/day
My question is why should Butler County taxpayers have to pay for jail costs associated with people we don’t believe should ever have been in this country, let alone this state, or county, to begin with?
These prisoners appear to be undocumented and are in my jail because they have committed crimes here. It’s time the Federal Government should at least pay for the criminals they let stay here. If they don’t want to pay for them, then they can deport them!
I feel this topic has been avoided long enough and action needs to be taken now, and I’m going to do what I can to do just that! We have received dozens of comments from the public on this topic which is one reason I wanted this blog. Those comments have been compiled and can be seen here.

It seems to me that most of Butler County’s citizens do not realize that this issue has made an impact nationaly. If a hispanic person wants to be here legally and obey the law, they really have nothing to worry about. Shoot, even being illegal and obeying the law and people really don’t notice you. I think the ultimate theme here, is OBEY THE LAW!!!

As I understand it they aren’t in your jail necessarily because they’re illegal aliens. They’re there because they got caught breaking the law. They wouldn’t be the target of your efforts if they hadn’t broken the law in the first place. If they don’t like their treatment by you maybe they ought to stop breaking the law or … better yet … go back to their native countries….note I DIDN’T say Mexico. Nationality makes no difference to me. I am not picking on Hispanics but if the shoe fits wear it. The feds should make a better effort to keep out illegals but if they do arrive here illegally they should be housed, paid for and sent back by the federal government.
It is important to note that if these illegal aliens were here working and obeying the rules and regulations like the rest of us they’d most likely fly under the radar and all this publicity wouldn’t be happening.
You’re doing what the majority of the residents of Butler County elected you to do. Keep it up.

If I move to a foreign country I’ll learn the local language. Until then, I expect the same of someone moving to the USA.
I just want to thank you Sheriff Jones for addressing this issue. It is long over due.My grandfather came to this country in 1912 from Greece. He had to wait 2 years after applying to get a visa. Conditions in his country were poor, but he did it legally. He had to learn our language and adapt to our society. There is a message from some one on your website who mentioned St. Julie’s Church and Father Mike Pucke, and the article that he wrote.
Why don’t they just enter legally he said - the immigration today bears little resemblance to that through which his maternal Grandfather passed. He said their were no quotas. Well I know for my grandfather there was. He said today each country has a quota and attaining a visa is a complicated and expensive proposition. It wasn’t cheap when my grandfather came here. Basically he is saying it is okay. Well it isn’t.
I think what you are doing is great and all this talk about racism is bull. The ones that are legal have nothing to fear from law enforcement as long as they don’t break the law.
Sheriff Jones has done a fine job addressing this issue. I don’t like the fact that MY tax dollars help house illegal aliens in the Butler County jail. I first found out about this issue by watching the local 12 News. After watching the news, I thought I would voice my opinion as well. First of all the 12 News had to turn this in to a racial issue. When they talked about the signs that are posted out side the jail and had someone from the Hispanic community screaming racism . The signs clearly say Illegal Aliens Hear. No where on the signs dose it talk about a specific race. The issue is Illegal Aliens not racism. If this is what it takes to weed out the Illegal Aliens then so be it. “Good Job Sheriff Jones.†I support you 100%
I simply can not believe that every American citizen is not outraged about the influx of illegal aliens. Even more surprising is that every person that has entered the United States legally isn’t even more outraged than those of us born here. I would think that as hard as it apparently is to become an American citizen those that have withstood the difficult process wouldn’t be even more incensed than a normal citizen. I commend you on what you are doing. It is my personal belief that the penalities and fines for companies hiring undocumented aliens should be both immediate and severe.
I have seen first-hand the negative effects that those that are here illegally can cause. Last spring my car was hit by a woman who was undocumented. She had no driver’s license. No insurance. She couldn’t speak English. My car was virtually undrivable. Since my car was an older car, and had very little book value, I didn’t want to make a claim with my insurance company. I didn’t get one dime from this woman, and I had to live without a car until I could afford to buy another one. Granted this is a small example of the negative finanancial impact that illegal aliens are making against our society, but a potent one. My story is one of many. I know because I’ve talked to dozens of people with similar stories.
I drive on the roads in our city and I look at the decay that has taken place over the last decade or more. Houses that once stood tall and beautiful are now not much more than slums. Trash litters are gutters. Am I blaming illegal aliens for this? I believe that what I see is a direct result of a loss of pride our citizens feel for their city. More and more people in our city are at or below the poverty level. Jobs have become more and more scarce. I blame the companies that are hiring illegal aliens in order to save money. This results are that a man who was born and raised here can not find a job.
Continue your efforts. Don’t cave in. We all have to make a stand. We are a county of opportunity. The first priority should be opportunity for those of us who were born here. Then we can concentrate on helping those that are here legally. There is no opportunity for those criminals who enter our country illegal, nor for those that harbour them.
Good work, Sheriff! It’s time we American tax paying citizens stand up and tell our government, “If you are not to enforce our exisiting immigration laws, YOU need to pay for the upkeep of these criminals”! After all, when these illegals crossed our borders ILLEGALLY, they became automatic law breakers. Some then go on to commit terrible crimes and the public has to pay for their upkeep. Its about time someone stands up for what is truely right. I see nothing discriminating about what the sign says. It simply states a fact. Its a shame we let illegal people stay in our country for even a week. They should be deported as soon as they are caught. There has to be some new laws put in place to discourage these people from entering our country. Who knows what might happen if the middle east terrorists begin to join forces with places that can get into our country easily. Not a good thought but I am sure it could happen. Thank you sheriff, thank you a thousand times. This issue of illegal aliens should not even exist if our government was doing to job that it was created for: protection of our nation from invasion. Rather, they’re encouraging it. I don’t understand how any debate about this can exist…it’s against the law..no debate is possible until and unless the law against illegal entry is changed. I approve of the Sheriff’s efforts to recover expenses for the housing of the undocumented inmates. However, when it is evident that laws had been broken and they are awaiting the final disposition of their cases, these billings should not apply.
If, on the other hand, the housing is solely for the convenience of the Immigration and Naturalization department, it should be billed.
Having been in law enforcement as a special deputy for the BCSO in 1973 and an officer of the Trenton and Sommerville PDs, I understand the additional burden undocumented individuals place on manpower.
I am now in El Paso, TX and the Border Patrol is constantly trying to make Immigration enforcement an additional duty of the municipal authorities. This hinders investigations. Undocumented witnesses and informers would be less responsive if they feel they could be deported.
PS: Thank you Sheriff Jones for the help you and your fine staff gave to the Katrina victims.
I can relate to Charlotte’s situation. Last year my truck was rear-ended by a auto that was driven by a “documentationally challenged” person. We pulled our vehicles off the road and all the passengers of the other vehicle took off. Only the driver remained. And of course, there was no insurance and I never received a cent of compensation. And my rear bumper is still smashed.
Considering the amount of benefits illegal aliens are collecting in money and services from our society, not to mention the cost of uninsured damage to vehicles and property, maybe $70/day to keep them in jail isn’t such a bad deal - especially when you consider the criminal element in the case of the incarcerated.

Great job Sheriff! I salute you Sir. I hope that this trend continues through out the United States, and that we have the illegal immigration problem under control soon! We Americans want our land secure and under control by the people we elect to do the job.

I would like to ask a question. Why is it I, as an american born citizen, have to show my Social Security card EVERY time I get anything done at the Butler county License or Title office. ( they make a Huge deal out of it if you don’t have your card with you)
Yet many times I see illegal hispanics there getting liscence, tags and titles without any Social Security cards? I asked one of the ladies lats time how they do it and she actually told me they use a fake one or stolen one. How can they do that? Don’t they check that stuff out? Seems to me our local offices are helping the illegals out…. If they can’t drive a car…they can’t work or live here, right?

I strongly agree that county taxpayers should not have to pay for these illegal aliens. That tab is no slouch. Maybe the FBI will realize that it goes on everywhere. If we make enough fuss other counties may do the same and then the bureau may actually do something more than they are about it. Suddenly building a wall and having guards every 2-300 yards with m16s isn’t so expensive after all.
Why can’t those of us that support Mr. Combs,Fox,and Jones unite to form an oganization much like MADD Mothers?We could monitor Lawenforcement,Judges,Councilmen,and any other publicly elected office holded that either won’t do thier job or doesn’t have the intestinal fortitude to do so. Our junio high and high school history teachers taught us that this is a Free Country. If they made it here and are working, they are undocumented workers. This is not only my opinion but that of many organizations that help all immigrants. We are all human and belong to the human race. Referring to them as illegals aliens dehumanizes them. They are HUMAN, just like me and you. They need to eat and feed their families just like we do. One day we will all have to face our maker, abusing immigrants is also breaking the law.
It is ludicris to support these actions and those that have posted a positive comment need to take a look in the mirror. All of our ancestors came to this country at some point and were probably discriminated against. Does that make it okay because we have been here longer??!! The majority of the Latino population in Ohio is only looking to improve their lifestyle and provide for their families as we do. How many white males and females are on welfare and do not pay taxes? I don’t see you complaining about about these people when they end up in jail! To promote this kind of discrimination is absurd, and I hope all of the people that posted to this blog realize that it is a terrible assumption to overgeneralize about any population. To refuse service due to language, as some locations are doing in Butler County, is outrageous and inconceivable. We might as well start using different water fountains again because that is the attitude that is being conveyed here. Have fun finding people that will to do all of the manual labor, all of the not-so-nice jobs that the illegal immigrants fill, and therefore sustain our economy. How about showing more compassion for the human race and maybe our society would make some progress…

I do beleve what the Sheriff, Mr. Jones, started hear was about a large amount of crimes being committed, and unforunitly, they happen to be by Hispanic people, and it sounds like such a large amount, that Butler County needs the finance from the fed. Goverment, to help pay the bill!

The Immigration and Naturalization Service is the ONLY agency encharged of these matters. On what LEGAL ground are you using tax dollar to have this website and to use resources to this cause?
I was not aware that aside from illegal immigration, Butler County was without crime but, it must be if this is the only thing the Sheriif gets worked up about. It is pretty telling that the Sheriff is not asking citizens to report suspected child molesters or drunk drivers or any other groups aside from illegal aliens and the people who give them a chance to earn some money.
Are the citizens of Butler County supposed to be pleased that rapists and murders who were born here or gained citizenship still get a free ride for the rest of their lives? I would be a lot less offended by someone busted for immigration getting a free meal than a natural born citizen who raped a little kid getting a free meal.
Let’s face it, what makes these people different is their color and their culture. Otherwise, the Sheriff’s office would focus on reducing crime across the board, not on the color of the person committing the crime.

I would be willing to say that 90% of our ancestors who came to this country from all corners of the globe did so in a LEGAL MANNER. Having been here longer has nothing to do with OBEYING the laws of the land! As for your comment concering Latinos YOU not the Sheriff brought them into play. HE is simply dealing with ilegals, I am quite sure he does not care from what part of the wolrd these criminals come, to break laws in his county, his only concern as a prfessional law man is to serve and protect those of us who are here legaly. Like my Polish Grandma, Italian Grandpa, Egyptian neighbor, German boss and Pakastani bodaga owner… So dear quit trying to make this a soft hearted, watered down attack on a specific race… It is an attack on criminals of ALL RACES.

I think you all should look at who really is hear illegally. I look around and see the same brown faces that occupied this land for thousands of years. I think you all have a short memory. You should also look into who is bringing workers in from other countries, the big construction contractors. PBS did a great piece on this last night. Whats happening in New Orleans is a good example. The cleanup and construction is being performed by workers encouraged to come in from other countries by the big contractors(LVI for example). The same thing goes on in your community. Do you really think they got in a car or van and decided to come to Scenic Butler County on the HOPE that they find work? I also wonder does the Sherrif have a site to turn in violations of the law that have nothing to do with illegal immigrants.

This country has up to 12 million illegals in the country already. The federal government nor employers have tried very hard to deny work to those who don’t have a legal right to be here.
Generally, illegal workers give employers false numbers. Most employers don’t check whether those numbers are valid because they simply don’t want to know.
Both the Internal Revenue Service and the Social Security Admin. (SSA) have the means to identify workers who use phony Social Security numbers. Unfortunately, the Dept. of Homeland Security, which is supposed to enforce immigration law, has not used the data from the Social Security Admin. that would raise red flags about a worker’s status.
Facts regarding SS numbers: Some 295 numbers were used as many as 1,000 times each on earnings statements.
About 1.4 million earnings reports cited SS numbers that have never been issued.
In more than 300 cases, an employer used the same SS number on earnings statements of 10 different workers.
I suspect some of this country’s ilegals are involved in other ilegal activities, such as; identity theft, drugs, money laundering, job theft, ect.
When they break the law, they should be deported.
I applaud Sheriff Richard Jones for putting them in jail.

Have we forgotten what our country was founded on?
I copied and pasted the definition of the noun “alien” from the Merriam-Webster website: “a foreign-born resident who has not been naturalized and is still a subject or citizen of a foreign country”. Illegal immigrant may sound more friendly but illegal alien accurately describes the people this blog focuses on as well.
I think many have gotten away from the original message here. It isn’t about “rounding up” illegal aliens, but rather getting the government pay for housing of those that are in jail for commiting crimes since those who ARE authorized to arrest and deport them aren’t doing their job!

I don’t think anyone has. MY great grandparents came into this county from Germany and Poland, but ya know what?? They came in through Ellis Island not under the cover of darkness or through a tunnel. THAT is the main issue. Welcome aliens, but ONLY the LEGAL way!

There is a right and wrong way to come to this country. Reasonable people are not opposed to legal immigration.
Justice should be served for all crimes. US citizens who commit crimes deserve to pay for their deeds. Persons who come here illegally and commit crimes should be deported. You would think that a person who is here illegally would have enough sense to obey the REST of our laws.
I think very little of US citizens who game the system, but it sickens me even more to see those among us who are too foolish to realize they are being gamed by people who shouldn’t be in this country in the first place.

Thanks for providing us with the definition of an “alien” as per the Merriam-Webster website. Here are the other definitions to the same as per The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language:
1. A person from another and very different family, people, or place.
2. A person who is not included in a group; an outsider.
3. A creature from outer space: science fiction about an invasion of aliens
Please look up for the definition of the word “immigrant” and you will find the following: “A person who comes to a country to take up permanent residence.”
In my experience dealing with thousands of immigrants in this country I still believe the accurate term for the purpose of this discussion should be “illegal Immigrants”.

Do you honestly think these prisoners “believed” to be undocumented aliens are white? Do you believe that most will report an Illegal Canadian, European even African immigrants working behind a McDonalds counter or at the local Wal-Mart? ITINs are issued regardless of immigration status because both resident and nonresident aliens may have U.S. tax return and payment responsibilities under the Internal Revenue Code.
Sheriff Jones should stop complaining about the thousands of dollars it costs to house these illegal aliens that must be paid by each and every taxpayer in Butler County (not mention the cost to host, manage and support this site) and educate himself and encourage “undocumented immigrants” (AKA “illegal immigrants”) to become taxpayers in his County like many who are already doing this in Franklin County, Ohio.

First of all, I get “worked up†about ANY and ALL crimes, not just this one. I DO provide a form where people can report ANY crime. There is a box on the lower right side of the home page where you may report crime related information or in the General Information pull-down menu “Send a commentâ€. Clicking either link will take you to a form you may fill out to report ANY criminal activity.
You should know that I have recently testified in hearings on House Bill 318 which provides the courts the ability to sentence persons convicted of certain sexual assaults to a life sentence without the chance of parole.
I also have deputies dedicated to finding and apprehending rapists and another on cold case investigations. I am also proud of the fact that I have increased deputy presence throughout Butler County during my tenure. In addition I believe inmates should not enjoy their stay in jail and they should earn their keep. This is why I put “Chain Gangs†out in the community to clean up the highways and provide “Warden Burgers†for inmates who are disciplinary problems.
As one can see, this topic is only one of many law enforcement issues I am addressing.
I feel what makes “Illegal Aliens†a more visible topic is that I don’t think the general public knows what a drain on the system this situation causes. When I have to spend $70,000 a month out of my inmate housing budget on criminals who aren’t even legally allowed to be here, I think the public has a right to know. I fully expect to have to pay for inmates who are legal residents, but I also expect the federal government to either pay for the housing THEIR inmates or deport them. Only they have the authority to do so, which brings up my next point.
It is true that Sheriffs and other law enforcement officers do not have the authority to arrest a subject ONLY for being an illegal alien. However, that may be changing in the near future. Ohio State Representative Courtney Combs is going to introduce a House Bill which will make it a crime of trespassing in the state of Ohio if the subject is an illegal alien. This bill is expected to be voted on in January and has the wide support of both Democrats and Republicans and is expected to pass. Once it is law, state, county, and local law enforcement officers will have the authority to arrest and detain illegal aliens on that charge alone. I am pleased to say that this will be the first such legislation for a non-border state in America and it started here in Butler County!
I’ve also read where a few have ridiculously accused this action of being somehow “racially motivatedâ€. Nothing has come from this office that would lend any credence to that accusation. I can only say yet one more time, I am doing my duty of enforcing the law in the state of Ohio and I am simply asking that I.C.E. do their duty and either deport or pay for the housing of these prisoners.

People who are viewing this webpage are undoubtedly concerned that it is targeting illegal immigrants. There is no mention of turning in only the illegals that commit crimes. It simply states REPORT ILLEGAL ALIENS. I believe this to be a cheap ploy to influence the people of Butler County to associate all Latinos with the criminals that the Sheriff refers to often. Many mentions of how it costs the county huge amounts of money to house these “aliens,” with one line about how it is the criminals that he is referring to. I understand the issue of financial burden. However, with lines such as, “If you know of any persons you feel are here illegally, or know of an employer who regularly hires illegal aliens, please contact the Butler County Sheriff’s Office with any information you feel will help us RID Butler County of this financial burden,” the true purpose and intentions of Butler County can be seen. THIS influences uncultured, uneducated people into commiting hate crimes, and in turn perpetuates the ignorant cycle. It is reprehensible for a government agency to push their agenda in this manner, yet possibly worse is the ignorance of so many to actually believe it without question. I would challenge all to open their eyes and expand their knowledge of others in order to put a halt to this before it goes further. Look at the bar owner who refuses service… discrimination has to start somewhere… and before long all is lost.

Its my opinion that most local police departments are doing a very poor job of keeping illegals from driving automobiles.They have no license,no insurance,and many can’t speak english.They cause an enormous number of wrecks and are not held accountable.These people are as much a threat to public safety as drunk drivers.Their driving insurance rates up.

We have all sorts of signs along our highways other than those which indicate the highway name or number and the speed limit.
We have lots of signs about the alcohol level - seat belts - what to do in a fender bender (pull off road) - why not have signs that state ILLEGALS are subject to arrest under 8 USC Section 1325. Print it in English and Spanish. Post these signs at the entry points to each state and at the city limits of the bigger cities and towns. That way NO ONE can claim ignorance of the law (not that they are ignorant of it) and it will bring attention to the problem.

Section 1324a states: “Any person who knowingly hires/harbors/transports any illegal alien is guilty of a felony punishable by 10 years jail + $2000 fine per illegal alien + forfeiture of the vehicle or property used to commit the crime”.
Section 1324c states, “All officers whose duty it is to enforce criminal laws shall have authority to make arrests for a violation of any provision of this section” (affirmed US v Perez-Gonzalez 2002 Fed App 0360, 6th Circ.).
Section 1644, same title states, “No local ordinance, rule, or measure shall stop law enforcement officers from enforcement of this section” (affirmed Southern District Court of NY, US v Rudy Guiliani,1996).

You say your county residents should not be burdened by financial requirements to support these illegals - that is correct - but by having the federal government pay for this, funding still comes from you and me! Why should I be forced to pay for an illegal? President Bush just made over $ 1B in federal funds available to help out health facilities in the Southwest that are going under in face of the huge illegal influx - illegals who cannot pay for medical services. This $ 1B is paid for by you and me!
The answer is: Brand and deport these illegals immediately.

The problem with what the sheriff is doing here is that he is trying to get the popular vote to support his “brilliant” idea of taking immigration matters into his own hands. Only USCIS (formerly INS) has the authority to decide on issues regarding immigration status and removal proceedings. Not the police. Not the sheriff’s office. Certainly not the public.
Inciting the public to report illegal aliens or undocumented immigrants is extremely irresponsible, and dangerous for every party involved. Asking regular people to make decisions that should be left to the ones who have the authority and expertise echoes of the times when lynching black people was a practice that many applauded.
Has anyone noticed that the sheriff has found a great soap box at the expense of only 15 people who are incarcerated? Looks like Ohio is having the same problems as the border states when it comes to the financial strain it has on the local jusctice system and public health system. As a resident of Greene County studying down here in Houston, Texas I see first hand the strain the hospital district is under due to the treatment of what they call undocumented workers. Were talking hundreds of millions. I have worked or volunteered on numorous races for all levels of government which as allowed me to better understand what is going on. I think it’s good that Ohio is finally waking up to what is really a national problem.

Subtle racists reject immigrants in ways that are more covert and socially acceptable such as misusing the federal law for their own agenda. Specifically subtle racists do not act to send legal immigrants back to their home country, but rather they will not do anything to improve their relations with the immigrant population, nor will they join any attempt to increase that population’s civil rights.

First, I commend Sheriff Jones. I wish every County Sheriff was in-step with him with regards to this issue. When these illegal aliens come, they bring their culture, which is not a bad thing, but as of today they are not willing to melt into American culture. They also bring thier poverty with them. Therefore, the only reasonable course of action is to vigorously and aggressively find these people and deport them. And build a wall on our Southern border. What Sheriff Jones is doing is certianly on track but more needs to be done. More needs to be done to secure our borders and more needs to be done to target employers of illegal aliens.
I would like to congratulate Sheriff Jones on taking a stand. What you are doing is grossly overdue in this country and it is time someone acted on the behalf of the majority of citizens instead of the minorities. And all I can say for those government officials who are afraid to make a stand and lose a few of the minority voters is to take a look at what they are going to be losing from the MAJORITY of voters when someone with your attitude finally runs for office.
Good grief, now we’ve got subtle racism too! Let me tell you about my own experience with illegals. About 8 years ago, the 15,000 population small town I used to live in by graced by one of those mega-retail stores. It got plopped down right on the outskirts of town, you know who I’m talking about. There weren’t enough people to work there, they were begging for employees. Then all of a sudden, somehow all these illegal Mexican aliens showed up in the area, no doubt imported by this mega-store. These days, this same mega-retailer is in deep doo-doo for hiring illegals. Anyhow, at first it wasn’t so bad, then the crummy element made itself known. My neighbor’s kid had his bike stolen, and there was a lot more trash and garbage blowing around, and many shady-looking things going on. How lucky that I could see the writing on the wall, so I moved to another town. My job was 15 miles away, so I moved to a larger city in the other direction which can more easily absorb ethnic minorities. A neighbor of mine took in a Mexican woman, and it wasn’t long before this woman brought her sisters, nieces and nephews too. When I’d go back to visit, things got dumpier all the time. Graffitti appeared on buildings, and the number of break-ins and auto-thefts shot up. We never had problems quite this bad until we experienced that huge influx of illegals. Today, the neighborhood I used to live in is a shambles. Property values have been wrecked. It’s a ghetto now, but in a rural area. Same old story, all through history. Invaders come for various reasons, and if the invasion is adversly effecting a particular region, it’s up to the people already there to either absorb them or throw them out. The Indians lost to the White Man, that’s a shame, and that’s history. Up until about 1750, they could have pushed the Whites into the Atlantic if they had all banded together and worked as one, but they were too caught up in their petty tribal differences to make any real impact, plus the Indian lifestyle and culture did not lend itself to long, drawn-out conflict. Will it be the same with the Latino Invasion? Not as long as I draw breath! And I know that there are millions of people in America who think and feel the same way. Reconquista be dammed.
On occasion the gap between Federal and County agencies may be vast especially considering finances. I agree with Mr. Jones in his symbolic gesture to raise some eyebrows about a serious issue.
Regarding immigrants : many of them are legal citizens, do not begin to think that a latino is illegal simply because of their ethnicity, that is prejudiced. Even illegal aliens have proper procedures for becoming authorized occupants. Work visas, student visas and many other applications and status prior to entering the country is the norm, but lllegals DO obtain legal status on occasion after applying properly.
It is a nationwide problem, not just in Butler County or large cities, unfortunately the services for processing them for citizenship or deportation aren’t abundant. This will with time become resolved but that doesnt mean these are not human beings.
At one time or another your ancestors were immigrants most likely, who also had dreams of living in a better place as these illegals do. The more working people we have in our country the higher the GNP and our standard of living, perhaps picking up some of the slack for others unable or unwilling to do work. As far as the crime attributed to illegals it is not so high as you may think according to the Dept. of Justice and the Census Bureau relative to their percentage of the population, although the Census may be entirely innacurate for obvious reasons.
I want to add that I’m pleased that President Bush has recently taken measures to push for legislation at the federal level to help reduce the flow of illegal immigration into our country. I am proud of the fact that he has finally recognized, as I have, the profound impact this issue has on Butler County and America. It’s a start, but I feel it is not yet strong enough. We need more.

To this I say, entering this country illegally, is in itself a crime. This is a fact that seems to escape many people. My job is to enforce state laws and/or report federal crimes such as illegal immigration.

This has been driven into the ground, but I’ll address it one more time. It is true, we cannot directly decide on immigration issues, but we can certainly report them. All information we get on illegal aliens is collected and forwarded on to the proper agency. This is my way, in addition to the monthly invoices, of illustrating the problem we have in Butler county.
I obviously understand that it is the duty of the USCIS or ICE agencies to enforce these issues, however I was elected Sheriff of Butler County and it is Butler County I am primarily concerned with. I intend to do everything within my authority to enforce all laws within my county to include reporting federal violations such as persons who have entered this country illegally.
Wow! What has the world come to when people can post a sign that targets an ethnic group? I thought we had overcame that part in history. I guess not. Why won’t our courts order vehicle immobilization and impoundment of license plates at time of sentencing for those driving with out a drivers licence,and insurance?

It is my opinion that the common pleas court judges in this county are doing a miserable job in this regard.They have the jurisdiction and the responsibility to enforce the law to the fullest,but choose not to.This borders on violation of their oath of office.

Why not just have a bus owned by the county, and get a gas budget. Every week, that bus loads up with all the illegals that you have detained and send them back to the border or better yet, dump them on the White House front door. Enough with the detention cost, enough with the housing and feeding cost, enough with the number of beds available. I, alone with millions of other Patriot American Citizens am sick and tried of the Politicians and others treating Illegal Aliens like honored guests! I, my Father, & my Brothers and million of others never fought this counties wars to have Corrupt Politicians turn it into another third world, Corrupt Latin American Country!
What countries could not win or accomplish by force of arms is fast becoming a reality by Illegal Invasion and Prolific Breeding aided & abetted by Corrupt Politicians at all levels of government! At the present rate within 10 to 15 years & probably less, we will be a third world country!
The excuse, the Politicians use, is the Illegal Aliens are only trying to have a better life, well so are Bank Robbers and other criminals! But common criminals are nothing in Comparison to the damage done to this country by the Illegal Invasion!
Illegal Aliens are robbing the USA of much more then any other criminals in the USA history, they are just taking money but a country! As for, as crime, by the time you finish reading this there will be robberies, rape, killing and other crimes committed by Illegal Aliens against American citizens! Now we are also experiencing all kinds of diseases that were eradicated in this country like T.B and worse brought back into this country by the Illegal Aliens!
While 9/11 was terrible! We are letting Illegal Aliens enslave millions of American Citizen each year with Drugs pouring across our open borders, while Murdering, Raping & Robbing many more Americans Citizens than was killed in 9/11. For this, they get 100 of Billions in Benefits and a whole gang of Corrupt Politicians at every level of government & in direct violation of our Immigration laws, supporting and working on their behalf!
Our President’s fine words about Terrorist & Terrorism is contradicted by his failure to control our open Borders! His acquisition in letting Mexico & Latin American send Millions of Illegal Aliens across our Open Borders is in direct violation of Article 4 Section 4 of the Constitution, and makes a lie out of his often stated concern with terrorist and terrorism!
If poorly Educated Illegal Aliens can pour across our open Borders than Terrorist far better Educated and with vastly more resources can also! One can only conclude by his actions that protecting the American Public is secondary to his wish to supply Slave Labor to businesses and Company officials. Apparently he thinks the risk of Terrorist crossing our open borders with WMD and killing thousand of Americans Citizens is well worth the Risk!
We now have Latino Barrios in every community, mostly populated by people here illegally, even in small towns where crime was never a problem, until the Illegal Invasion! Where American Language, American Ideals, & anything American is rejected & most are very anti-American & rabid in their hate for both American Citizens and American. American Citizens that fought our wars, paid the taxes, and obeyed the laws take a great risk of getting Robbed or Killed, if the dare go into those areas!
While the Politicians sit in there Ivory towers & either have no concept or don’t give a Damn about the kind of world their Policies are crating for American Citizens! It should be mandatory for those Politicians to go live and Experience the Crime and & lowing of our standard of living faced by ordinary Citizens before they foster their Corrupt, & Asinine Policies on the American Public!
If they had to experience what they are doing to this country just maybe, they would wake up & realize they are destroying this country! The money they are collecting from greedy Companies and Businesses for supplying them Slave labor may not be worth their life or the life of their loved ones.
They are crating another Iraq in this country where whole sections are off limits to Legal American Citizens! But the Illegal Aliens can go into any area they want with impunity!
What kind of country do we have when Illegal Aliens & lawbreakers are safe but legal American Citizens have large areas in every community where they are unwelcome, unsafe, hated, and dare not go?
While the Politicians are busy destroying this country, American citizens get to pay for the Illegal Alien babies, pay for their kids schooling, their medical benefits, welfare and all other benefits our elected Politicians can think of to reward them with!
We even reward their Illegal babies with American Citizenship. Like American Citizenship has no value and million have not fought and died for the honor and privilege of being Americans, and citizens of other countries dream and wait years to become American citizens legally! It seems American Citizenship should have a higher Requirement & Standards than 2 people here Illegally engaging in 3 minutes of unskilled labor!
Illegal Aliens have no allegiance to this country & do not want to be American citizens, but to import their way of life, their language, crime and corruption, to the USA! While exporting the money they make illegally back to their home countries! They want to change this Country into another Mexico and they, with the help of our Elected Officials are!
They are everyplace in American, both large & small, the official numbers are vastly understated & the actual numbers are closer to 30 million than the government deliberate underreporting of 10 to 11 million & another 10,000 are pouring across our open Borders, every day but our Corrupt/Stupid President refuses to Enforce the Immigration Laws!
They form a country within this country off limits to American Citizens and call us Stupid Americans for paying them to take over this country by Illegal Invasion! They are right we are Totally Insanely Stupid to allow this to happen & continue!
No Nation on Earth can withstand an Illegal Invasion of this magnitude of poorly educated immigrants with an average 8 grade educations & a 50% school dropout rate! To do so will profoundly change the country for the worse and turning it into a facsimile of the country where the Illegal Aliens came from.
This letter is not from xenophobia, I strongly believe controlled and legal Immigration built this country, but it should be based on the rule of law & people that want American citizenship, be Americans, and willing to contribute to this country for all citizens and not to abuse and use our System for gain!
It is certainly not fair to the American taxpayers or the 10,s of thousand that get robbed, killed, and raped each year, or to the Million of other people around the world wanting & dreaming of coming to this country legally and abiding by the Law.
The Blatant disregard of the Immigration law by our Politicians is for only one reason Money, they receive from Businesses and Companies for providing them with nearly Slave labor so they can reward their unlimited greed & let the taxpayers pay billions in benefits for their Slave Labor!
If it was just the Politicians Kind Hearts and Compassion there are millions of American children living in poverty without a chance at the American dream. Millions without medical care & old people choosing between medicine or food & millions of American Veterans without adequate medical care!
The fine Upstanding Honorable Politicians could shower tax dollars on them to show their compassion! Of course, the problem is they don’t get paid for being compassionate to American Citizens!
The Majority of Americans want our Borders closed and Illegal Aliens in this country send back to their own countries but our Politicians would rather collect the Money from Businesses and Companies they supply with Slave Labor than protect American Citizens or keep this country from turning into a third world country!
Every few years the Politicians pull a bait and switch on the American Public and promise to Enforce our Immigration Laws if only we reward the millions with green cards, guess workers programs etc. they let in though prior years by not enforcing the laws, Like John McCain’s & Ted Kennedy S.1033 bill.
Once the Bill is passed they ignore the Enforcement part of the bill & repeat the same cycle over again. The Politicians in this country really think American Citizens are stupid and they are a power onto their selves & can do any thing they want!
They would have us believe the Illegal Aliens are only here taking jobs Americans won’t, take, which is true, because American citizens at the present time will not live 40 to the house like Illegal Aliens or work for slave wages while the Company owners and Business executives reward their selves with millions in salary and benefits!
But as millions more slip into poverty, just in August it was reported 1.1million more Americans slip into poverty, the day is fast approaching where working Citizens will be forced to live like that while the Rich grow Richer, and the Middle class & the Poor ..Poorer! Bush’s willing workers for willing employers are code words for willing slaves for willing Slave users!
Or can we collect the 100,s of Billions in benefits that Illegal Aliens are rewarded with from tax payer’s money! Or do most Americans want benefits but a decent job with a livable wage. But the Politicians care much more about rewarding & in turn collecting big donations from greedy Business owners and Company Officials than protection American citizens from living like the Peons in Latin American!

OUTSTANDING JOB SHERRIFF JONES! It is high time that our elected officials started upholding the oath that they take when entering into office: To uphold the US Constitution and the laws of the country and state.

We landed on the beach at Normandy on D-Day with a little more than 100,000 troops. This was an invasion. We currently have 12 (Pew Hispanic Center) to 20 million (Bear Stearns) ILLEGAL ALIENS in the United States. How can this not be considered an invasion?
In Los Angeles County in 2004, 95% of all homicide warrants and 67% of all felony warrants were issued for ILLEGAL ALIENS. These figures were released by the LA Sherriffs office earlier this year. Yes, they are ILLEGAL ALIENS. This has nothing to do with race, it is a legal term referring to an individual who has no right to be in the United States of America. For those who disagree with that, either lobby to change it or leave, and don’t let the door hit ya’ where the good Lord split ya’!
I have one question for all those here who have made comments regarding “rights” for ILLEGAL ALIENS, and how “no human is illegal”. How many legal immigrants have you sponsored to come here legally?
I ask this question because I am part hispanic, and my family has sponsored three individuals to come here LEGALLY. I would be willing to bet that you have not sponsored any. Why? Because it is expensive! When you sponsor someone to come here LEGALLY you are responsible for all their needs, including housing, medical insurance, transportation, education, and so on. So why should taxpaying American citizens be required to pay the bills for ILLEGAL ALIENS when you, who support them, are not willing to do so? Put up or shut up! Why should a legal immigrant have to pay their own way, including paying for their children to attend a public school, when an ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT is granted free public education for their children,free school meals, free bus passes, health insurance, free meals, WIC, welfare, subsidized housing, and a plethora of other services?
My husband and I lived in southern California for sixteen years. We have seen firsthand what this invasion has done to the economy, the security, the taxes, the infrastructure, health care costs, unemployment rates, crime rates…the list goes on and on. We moved away because we did not want our son to grow up in an area where we had to be afraid for him to play in the front yard. We watched while our lovely middle class neighborhood turned into a crime infested pit, with drug deals taking place on every corner and shootings every month. This is what the invasion brings to the United States. I have nothing against anyone seeking a better life, but they must operate within the law, they must assimilate to the culture that they move to, and they must learn to speak the language of the country that they move to. They have no rights to benefits that are provided by taxpayers for American citizens and LEGAL IMMIGRANTS. ILLEGAL ALIENS should be allowed one right only: DEPORTATION!
I also agree with the above statement. If the ILLEGAL ALIENS that are currently sitting in jails and prisons across the United States were all rounded up and bussed to Washington, D.C., and then released on the White House Lawn (after all, it is not only a “federal issue”, but a FEDERAL RESPONSIBILITY TO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC!), I would be willing to bet that the ILLEGAL ALIEN PROBLEM would be resolved in about one month’s time. By not enforcing our immigration laws, the federal government is breaching it’s contract (THE U.S. CONSTITUTION) to the states, and could be grounds for secession.
Just in case you are wondering, I am Hispanic! I am proud of my heritage, but I am an AMERICAN CITIZEN and that is where my loyalties lie. Being Hispanic, or any other nationality, does not entitle you to being able to break the law with impunity, and if you are here ILLEGALLY, YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW! My family came here proudly and LEGALLY seeking a better way of life. If we can do it, waiting our turn in line, there is no reason why everybody else can’t. ILLEGAL ALIENS ARE NOTHING MORE THAN LINE CUTTERS AND PROVIDING ANY SERVICES TO THEM OTHER THAN FOR EMERGENCY CARE IS AN INSULT TO ALL LEGAL IMMIGRANTS!
Sheriff Jones, I commend you for having the backbone as well as the concern for the people of Butler County to take action against illegal aliens.
I live in California and our state is on its way down the tubes due to illegal immigration and yet most of our politicians either don’t care, benefit from, or are too afraid to say or do anything about the situation.
The days of pro-illegal immigration groups and supporters constantly getting their own way by simply screeching “racism” have got to end if we don’t want the entire United States to turn into a third-world country or break up completely.
Keep up the good work, Sheriff Jones, we need more men like you, who are willing to put the citizens of their towns, counties and country FIRST!

One aspect of the ongoing invasion of the USA by illegal aliens has to do with the law of supply and demand.
The more workers per job…. the lower the wages. This is especially true of America’s working poor. Census Bureau data shows that real income for the bottom 40% of wage earners is either stagnant or actually falling.
Why should we allow the working poor to pay the economic price of illegal aliens? Obviously, the “elite class” does not see their income harmed. And, the estimated 12 to 20 MILLION illegals here now cause rents to rise. America’s working poor often pays 50% to 75% of their income for housing. The working poor competes with illegals for the limited amount of affordable housing… the “wealthy elite” does not.
How long can this situation go on? Until the working poor has been forced down into a 2nd- or 3rd-world lifestyle?
I predict future social turmoil if conditions continue. I was forced out of my home state of California in 1993 due to the horrid economic and social conditions caused by the estimated 4-MILLION illegals there. Sadly, several years later, I saw the illegals flooding into Nebraska. Where do I run to next to escape?
Save the country, my fellow Americans. Too many of the elite class and too many politicans are willing to allow a sizable percentage of America’s citizens to be forced into a sub-standard lifestyle due to the HUGE number of illegals disrupting the supply/demand equation.
Wow, where to begin. Sheriff Jones, I want to start by saying I do understand your frustration but I can’t condone how you have gone about this.
First off, I’m sorry to tell you this but you can not look at a person of any color and know if they are here legally or not. I don’t believe you are racist, just lazy. It is easier to look at someone who doesn’t look “American” and say they must be illegal. Encouraging the general populace to report “possible illegals” is going to cause two unproductive things to happen. First, you are going to get a large number of leads that are going to be false. Secondly, you are going to unintentionally cause suspicion between anyone who looks “American” and anyone who doesn’t. Quite frankly, Americans get along with each other poorly enough as it is. Do you really need to add a new layer of distrust?
Secondly, as one person noted previously, it is not uncommon for people who are here legally from another country to spend short periods where they are “illegal” because they are transferring from one kind of status to another. This is common when transferring from temporary to permanent residency or from school to work visa. I personally would have been considered “illegal” by most for two years while trying to jump through all the hoops needed to transfer to a permanent residency card from my work visa after I married. To expand on my previous point, you would never have doubted my being a “good ol’ boy” if you met me while I was “illegal”. Yet you no doubt would have suspected Latino looking folks in my neighborhood who are legal. Again, not racism. Just laziness.
Thirdly, just for clarification. “Illegals” DO pay taxes. You all obviously haven’t looked closely at your pay stubs. Taxes are taken directly out of your pay check by your employer. (Although admittedly probably not as much as they would if legal but do you really want to get into tax evasion?) If I were a betting man I would say the U.S. government is quite aware of how much tax revenue comes in under fraudulent or stolen social security numbers and isn’t willing to part with that kind of income all at once without a plan to replace it.
Finally, I would like to say to you Mr. Jones, and those who have been reading your blog that you all need to remember that many of the people who come to this country, legally or not, are trying to improve their quality of life and contribute something to this country, myself included. But realizing the American Dream is nothing like it was when your forefathers did it. The system has become a confusing red tape machine with loopholes for fashion models. The ICS officer who gave me my green card warned me that MOST immigration lawyers don’t actually even understand the rules anymore (the one my employer paid to get me here in the first place was wrong on at least 3 major points of the process and requirements).
I don’t support people bypassing the system to come to this country illegally. However, before you go on a “witch hunt” for those “darn illegal immigrants” I suggest you encourage the law makers to fix the process to come to this country.
I would do this, but I just live here, contribute to my community, pay taxes, go to church, and work. I don’t have the right to vote… yet. (I must wait 4 years before applying for citizenship)

Look at the countries below our southern border. THAT is what the invading creates. Let events continue as they have and the USA will eventually be a 2nd-world country.
