County Will Profit From Old Jail
Below is a link to a Cincinnati Enquirer story regarding the old jail. I thought those of you interested in the activities of the Sheriff’s Office might want to check it out. It explains how renting out bed space in the Court Street jail facility to other law enforcement agencies will bring money into the county’s general fund. Let me know what you think.

Not only am I all for the Old Jail being upgraded and used to house prisoners, but when the Old Mercy Hospital is torn down throw up a 20 foot fence and make the lot a Tent City.
Old jail…Hmmmm…perhaps another place to assist the homeless since we are growing in size as a city and the benefits are decreasing. I noticed your camera, the one from the Government building, and remember ofter seeing people sleeping in the same direction the camera positioned, next to the tracks above High st.
I know it takes money to do these kinds of things but I do know that the need right here at home is great in many areas…
#1zillion,
I note your concern about the homeless, and I agree it is an honorable and charitable thing to do, however, there is no authority granted in either the US Constitution, nor the Ohio State Constitution for any level of government to use public funds to provide for the homeless…or for anyone else for that matter. It is the responsibility of the people acting as individuals, or in organized groups to help people that need assistance, not of the government.
Taxes can ONLY be collected to pay for public debt. Using taxes to provide for any particular group of people is a form of “re-distribution of wealth”, is a Socialist idea, and is ILLEGAL in a Constitutional Republic (which is what the US is). If you check your history, this very same concept is one of the main reasons why the Roman Empire fell.
“Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.”
If taxes were only collected for their proper use and intent, then the tax burden on the average citizen would be much much less, hence, people would have more money to give to non-profit and other charitable organizations who are much better at helping the poor and homeless than any government agency could ever hope to be.
Ive attached a link to a story concerning one of the Founding Fathers of this country. Since they are the ones who created our form of government, they are also the best ones to explain how it was intended to work. Its kind of a long read, but its well worth the understanding that is gained from it.

Just finished watching the news. The guns in school is a very good idea. May I be your first volunteer?
Many thanks for saying it like it is.
