Your application will be reviewed for eligibility and kept on file for two years. All appicants are not called back due to the volume of applications we receive. If your application is selected to move forward in the process then you will be contacted by telephone for an interview. Full applications are given at the conclusion of the initial interview.

The Hiring Process
The first phase of the hiring process requires that the application be completed in its entirety. Resumes may accompany the application but may not be substituted for any part of it. The application is reviewed for completeness, legibility, grammar/spelling and content.
Completed applications will be forwarded to the background investigator who will contact the applicant to arrange for a more extensive questionnaire to be completed by the applicant. After the return of questionnaire, the investigator may contact the applicant for an initial interview. During the interview, the investigator will assure all release documents have been signed to continue with a more extensive background investigation.
The background investigation will be preformed in a thorough and confidential manner to ensure accurate and fair results for both the applicant and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office. During this phase of the process, the investigator may check the applicant’s driving record, criminal history, arrest record, credit history, education, military records, employment history and applicant’s contact with law enforcement. The investigator may contact the listed reference or past/present employees. The investigator may visit the applicant at his/her home. While in the area, the investigator may interview family members or neighbors of the applicant. Applicants may also be requested to comply with a polygraph examination, drug screen, psychological evaluations, physical examinations and physical agility test.
Candidates who have successfully completed the hiring process will be placed on a reserve list. The candidates are hired based on training, education, background investigation and experience. New hires will be on a one year probationary period, during which time they will be trained in the knowledge and the skills necessary to perform their assignments. Periodic evaluations will be conducted to ensure that they are learning these skills. Employees who successfully complete their probationary period are launched into an exciting career with many advancement opportunities at the Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
